Jack and Jill Politics: Andrew Young, I Hereby Revoke Your Black Card

  • rikyrah · 2 years ago
    Fist raised in air,Jack.

    Revoke that Black Card.

    Revoke it.

And, I'll hand him his handkerchief when he comes to turn it in.
  • baratunde aka jack turner · 2 years ago
I'm so with you rikyrah. I just get so HEATED when this stuff happens. I read your post from the Seattle airport as I was about to board. Whipped open the laptop and banged out this angry joint.

    So ugly.

One commenter on your post said this may backfire on Hillary's campaign. I hope so. You know if she wanted to, she could stop all these attacks on Obama's "blackness" but she's desperate now.

She stopped acting like a front runner.
  • dnA · 2 years ago
I'm going to stop referring to myself as mixed. I figure my dad has boned my mom enough times that now he's technically black too. (Yes, I said "boned," I'm 12.)

Trifling is such a good word. I don't know why it kinda went out of fashion.
  • Anonymous · 2 years ago
    I concur.

I am a native Atlantan, an Mr. Young has been a carpetbagger in my city long enough.

Show him the door as you "strip his card."

I am no where near a good enough word smith to convey how deeply betrayed I feel by Andrew Young, John Lewis et al. I can not believe that these were supposed to be the keepers of the flame.
  • Anonymous · 2 years ago
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Andrew Young, Messie Jackson, Al Sharpton-- any of them who claims Hillary-Long-time-friend-of-the- murderer-Sheriff-Lee, who barred black Katrina victims from crossing a bridge to safety, gives a shite about black people...
OH I can't stand any of them!

    Take all their cards!

    Take 'em now!
  • Ronnie B · 2 years ago
On the one hand, Mr. Young's comments were ignorant, yellow, and somewhat surprising. I thought that he might be one of the old guard who refuse to drink the kool-aid.

On the other hand, this kind of "support" for Hillary might just seal her doom in this race. Black folk of the post-Civil Rights generation, critical thinkers, and contemporary idealists, are flocking to Obama in droves, and they're not put off or intimidated by Obama's cross-over appeal.

So if Hillary is content to have the support of Reverend Chicken Wing and his greezy-fingered congregation, let her have 'em.
  • Mr. Webber · 2 years ago
I haven't seen this much self-hatred since "The Color Purple" came out in '86 and the NAACP Leaders protested the film...

The film lives on in many of our hearts...those leaders do not.

    Politically OBSOLETE.
  • nyc/caribbean ragazza · 2 years ago
wow! I can't believe he said these things. Is this a generation gap? My siblings and I are in our early 40s to early 30s. None of us have a problem with Barack's Civil rights record. He was too young to march with Martin.

I thought I was the only who got heated over the Bill Clinton is America's first black President comments.

I don't think the comment is cute, funny or true. Bill Clinton has no idea what is like to be a 60 year old black man in America.

    Thank you for this post.
  • faboo · 2 years ago
I've been livid about Young's comments since last night. I just told my husband (he's white) about what Young said regarding Clinton and my husband said, "See, I told you I was black!" Who knew race was transmissible via sharing a dinner or bodily fluids.

BTW, my husband wants to know if he can Young's Black Card. And yes, my husband is well aware that Bill Clinton is not black.
  • faboo · 2 years ago
BTW, you did the same thing I do when referring to Andrew Young. You called him Andrew Jackson.
  • baratunde aka jack turner · 2 years ago
    @faboo

I have consulted the committee on the pending status of your husband's black card. While it is true that there's an extra card in circulation due to the revocation of Mr. Young's card, the committee cannot in fairness give the card to a non-black individual.

Extenuating circumstances might require us to one day return the card to Mr. Young, Michael Jackson or others who have lost their way.

In the meantime, we have decided that you and your husband are permitted to share your black card between the two of you. There are certain restrictions, of course. Your husband can only use your black card when accompanied by you, and such use must be limited to four public moments per year.

    Thank you for your inquiry.

Do not hesitate to seek further clarification on these matters in the future.
  • faboo · 2 years ago
LOL...I'm cool with that. I don't even let him out in public more than 4 times a year. Remember how you've never seen him at YK? There's a reason.
  • trey8 · 2 years ago
No white person could ever have a "black card" no matter who they screw. To say otherwise is stupid and self defeating.
  • Mr. Webber · 2 years ago
HOLY ISH...I'm watching Chris Matthews show on (12/7 Fri) where Shelby Steele is being interviewed today about his book, "Why Obama Can't Win"...

Shelby Steele: "Hillary Clinton is actually 'blacker' than Barack Obama."

WTF??? Somebody is sending out talking points to these deluded, sold-out souls!

I was trying to be neutral about the endorsements...the African-American Community should not be dogmatic. At the very least, people could be indifferent about *O*s candidacy.

BUT WHEN THESE FOOLS COME FORTH, PROCLAIMING that a CLINTON is BLACKER than OBAMA...That's a F#ckin SELL-OUT!

No mo' neutrality over here...I'm callin'em as I SEE 'EM.
  • rikyrah · 2 years ago
    Mr. Webber,

I thought Dyson- who I am not a fan of - did a pretty good job defending Obama and breaking down Sambo Shuffling Steele. Steele is so threatened by Obama, it's not even funny.
  • Webber · 2 years ago
    Yeah rikyrah,

I actually like the rhyming-reverend Dyson, but I thought he should have been more LIVID regarding Steele calling Hillary blacker than Obama.

Did you see how Dyson responded to the "blacker" comment? He remained a calm, dispassionate intellectual...I would have been indignant.

Perhaps, this subject is too raw emotionally for me...

It's PURE blasphemy to me. Saying that Hillary is blacker than Obama is like saying VANILLA ICE is blacker than TUPAC.

    One other thing....

Gennifer Flowers announced today that she's backing Hillary. You'd better believe that Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky want her to win too.

They all want to be restored to the heightened-level of celebrity that only a Clinton Administration can provide...

WE'VE GOT TO CLOSE THIS CHAPTER OF HISTORY!

Let's give a Community Organizer, NOT Bill's HOES, a platform to impact the country.
  • faboo · 2 years ago
I wish I could say I'm shocked Steele said something like that, but after what I learned about him in the past few months, I'm not. Who's supplying these people to the media? The GOP? And if Clinton is "blacker" than Obama is her campaign's new talking point, then I'm definitely getting on board to get her defeated. I always thought that her campaign was feeding the "is Obama 'black' enough?" BS and now this???
  • rikyrah · 2 years ago
Did you see how Dyson responded to the "blacker" comment? He remained a calm, dispassionate intellectual...I would have been indignant.

Actually, I understood that moment. There comes a time when you either have to APPEAR to be dispassionate...

    OR

    You're gonna act the fool.

There really IS no in between sometimes.

And, having a Black man calling Hillary Clinton Blacker than Barack Obama is one of those times.

So, Dr. Dyson chose the appearance of dispassionate intellectual. But, man, oh man, take away that television prompter, and I believe Dyson would have gone GHETTO on Steele for that remark.
  • Webber · 2 years ago
Rikyrah-you're right--he didn't necessarily need to come off as the ANGRY Black Man nor Dispassionate Intellectual.

Dyson could have just bust out laughing and clowned such a ridiculous position...STEELE needed to be discredited then and there. Just like every other figure who would make such foolish comments.

Faboo--I give the GOP much credit for creating divisiveness, but I fear that the true motivator of these folks is jealousy, self-loathing and self-interest.

I just saw the actual video of Young's comments at www.newsmakerslive.com

    He
starts off well, but when he starts discussing why Bill Clinton is blacker than *O*, it feels like an episode of the Boondocks with Uncle Ruckus...so sad.

I really feel bad for the Vernon Jordans, Andy Youngs, and John Lewises of the world. They are exhibiting loyalty toward the Clintons. Unfortunately, they are all about 2 get caught on the wrong side of history...

As for Shelby Steele, the ultimate comeuppance for someone who writes a book called "Why Obama can't win" is seeing OBAMA WIN.

I sure hope C-Span is covering the Obama-Oprah tour this weekend.
  • Anonymous · 2 years ago
I vote to not only revoke his card, but "excommunicate" him as the saying goes. Young apparently has been "Bamboozled!" and "Hoodwinked!" He has set black folks (as well as the entire human race) back at least 100 years -- if not more.

Young, Lewis, and others have disgraced MLK's legacy.

    Webber,

It's live tv then; you're thinking too much. Come on, in THAT split second, did your mind actually go to alternative C? I know mine didn't. When you hear complete lunacy, you have to think quick on the feet. I think Dyson did the best he could faced with insanity.

He starts off well, but when he starts discussing why Bill Clinton is blacker than *O*, it feels like an episode of the Boondocks with Uncle Ruckus...so sad.

Oh, you didn't bring up Ruckus...damn....but, you're accurate though.

It's quite amusing, watching a Sambo Shuffler like Steele, do this tap dance. I've said it before, and I'll repeat it: Steele and his ilk are so green with envy and repulsion towards Obama, they can't see straight. Obama made all opposite choices of them, and here he is, knocking on the door of DEMOCRATIC Nomination. They are beside themselves.

I sure hope C-Span is covering the Obama-Oprah tour this weekend.

I know that they covered the Iowa event, and I know that at least one of the events is going to be on Road to the Whitehouse on Sunday.
  • rikyrah · 2 years ago
Have you seen the blogosphere and its reaction to Young's comments? We aren't the only ones who are disgusted.
  • JJ · 2 years ago
So if Hillary is content to have the support of Reverend Chicken Wing and his greezy-fingered congregation, let her have 'em.

    LMAO

Also the man who gave us NAFTA, the DISASTROUS Welfare Reform and the expansion of the Prison Industrial Complex...Clinton is hardly a friend of the Black man.

Classic case of a white person showing Black folk any attention and we're automatically in love...swooning and ish.

    Hey rikyrah,

THanks for the C-span info. I watched Road-to-the-Whitehouse and saw the *Oh,Oh* tour in SC on the NYTimes...just waiting to see some footage from NH on World News Now, so that I can go to sleep...

How does HRC compensate for Oprah? She brings out Chelsea and fires a volunteer (lol, how do you fire a volunteer???) for forwarding emails/lies about *O*...too little, too late.

Rightous takedown, Jack. But, instead of giving him a handkerchief for his head, may I suggest giving him a lantern and putting him on the lawn?

Cause that's where his arse needs to go...

And don't forget Wal-Mart's cutting him checks, as well as his attempt to team up with Russell Simmons to market "grillz" over in Africa...that's House Negro shyt right there.
  • rikyrah · 2 years ago
Here is a fabulous takedown of Young:

    Shame On The Irrelevant
  • Ronnie B · 2 years ago
Know what? Let people like Steele and Young continue to portray Hillary as "blacker" than Barack. Because, while it offends and insults most of us within the community, whoever is the "blacker" of the two will likely lose favor in the eyes of white independent and moderate democrat voters.

So let these nigras continue to shill for Hillary. She will eventually distance herself from them anyway, and they will eventually either stay home or swing their votes to Obama. Either way, Hillary her doom is sealed.

Question for the day: Is Hillary blacker than Dog the Bounty Hunter?
  • Andrea R. · 2 years ago
i too join the campaign to revoke his black card. after that it just reinforced the need to tell a lot of the old black political guard to go sit down somewhere!!!

Happenstance bought me to this Blog which will now be on my must reads.
I'm white and totally agree with your sentiments.

Obama has inspired and given me new hope. At 62 years of age I had thought those emotions ended with the Kennedys and Dr. King.
