Comments like this woman's make it it clear many individuals still have a long ways to go. But society as a whole is getting better.
Here is the link to the diary on dkos, rec it and more importantly if you have an ebay account complain. There are also phone numbers to call.
Thanks.

It seems to me she just wants to be able to spout racist rhetoric....I suppose the "blacks" are free to make the "whitey", "honkey", "Kracka" comments freely without any threat of retaliation from Human Resources.
Oh...and Blacks have Black History Month - Whitey has the other 11. Blacks have the Unite Negro College Fund - Whitey has the college of their choice admissions office. Blacks have the NAACP - Whitey has the Federal Government. Blacks have BET (and TVOne) - Whitey has the other 200 channels.
Somebody tell this white female to please....kick rocks.
I have had my issues with BET for a long time now and I was told that it was a "generational" thing (I'm only 30) and that I don't "get" the music of today. Well, uh, the stuff I see in videos today really started to take off 15 years ago or so, so I don't understand how my criticisms of "black entertainment" television stems from me being "out of touch" with the times.
I wonder if Johnson even looks back at the cancer that BET has turned into since it came into existence. And what exactly does the NAACP do for anyone these days? If this woman wants the NAACP, she can have it.
Also TCPL, when BET first came into existences it had wonderful programing that benefited us. The tide just changed.
It's not the first time John has admitted it's hard to be proud of America! There was a post on Huffington where he responded to a question by saying it was hard to be proud of America sometimes.
Growing up in suburbia (Connecticut to be exact) and going to a predominantly white high school I learned at an early age that I couldn't get away with a lot of the things white people could. I don't think of myself as a racist but its my reality.
Even now, as I am thrust into Corporate America I notice that things are said to me that are completely inappropriate that I wouldn't be able to say with no repercussion or be able to respond to because my neck will snap to hard, causing me to scare someone and possibly get fired.
The letter that White Woman wrote in isn't nothing I haven't heard before. It doesn't surprise me but I can't help but be disappointed. This country caters to Caucasians, God forbid that another group of people have something that caters to them. Next out of this woman's mouth is that Native Americans shouldn't have reservations.
I am glad that I grew up where I did and know how to deal with the ignorance that I just can't seem to escape.
to me.
I love you dear. We are both young 23 year old black females who grew up in white suburbia. I am concerned though that people talk to crazy on your job because of your grammar. "isn't nothing" is a double negative that wont cut it in Cooperate America.
umm. Did you type what I just read?
First and foremost, Nicole is not at work so she does have to watch her grammer. She can speak however she may choose.
I didn't reread my message, so excuse the double negative. But I am a college educated woman and regardless of how well I speak, how well I dressed, professional I am and how well I do my job, I know I am still looked at and treated as the black 'girl.' People open their mouths and say unprofessional things simply because they can.
I feel like a lot of attention gets drawn to the argument of 'they' have Black History Month, BET, and so forth because some groups feel like if we have it they should too. Maybe if we changed the name of some months, tv channels, colleges, and organizations they'd feel better.

I am an old white man, and geez, the crap that the "author" of the letter was peddling, is just that, crap. I've got to say that the "ask the white guy" was a lot nicer than I would have been. I actually have a hard time seeing the original post as anything more than a troll attack.
I am in no position to recommend responses to the bulls**t, and I'd bet that a lot of my outrage is that I get to avoid this crap, but (of course there is a but, sorry) . . . . I'm a teacher, and I have a hard time getting off the soapbox, I realize that I'm an unschooled idiot where race (and much else) is involved. What can people like me do? Blast the idiot who wrote the post? Respond to the post? Vote well? Be human? I know that I should be . .. ok, I should smack these people into the 21st century, but. .. .
I'm still dumbstruck. I mean I known that there are stupid people, but . . . . OK, is my privilege showing? . . . .
We have many issues about race (and gender and sexuality, and religion, and etc) that we, as a society, need to address -- race being number one and not just because our next president will be an African American man, but because racism is the central canker of our country (look at the constitutional convention).
At then end though, I am an old straight white man and, therefore, I know, blind to so, so much. But still, we need to really have the conversation. And it will be hard for white people, especially me (and people like me) racists know that they are racists do-gooders need to be shown their racism and that's the hard part for us do-gooders . But, I have two girls (5 and 8) and I want them to have as good a life as possible and the only way for America to look forward is to rally all of our smart kids!!!!!!!
Gosh, I want to be hopeful, but, well I have nothing of import. Just know that not all old white men are as stupid as the gop (they only have 60% or so of even them).
They just couldn't understand what the big deal was about the "nappy headed hos" comment, after all gansta rappers call each other niggers and their women hos and bitches, so it must be okay.
Anyway, I tried to explain how those names were unacceptable coming from rappers, and 10 times as unacceptable coming from a white person. I might as well have been talking to a brick wall. Finally, to put it in terms the guys could understand I said, "Jeff Foxworthy calls white people rednecks. So I guess that means it's okay for me to call you a redneck then."
Honestly, I'm at the point in my life where I'm so over trying to jusftify my existence. If a white person wants to talk about racial issues, and is open-minded enough to have a serious exchange, I'm always up for that. But I no longer waste my time having "the conversation" with folks who act like smart asses. If they want to wallow in their ignorance, they can be my guest.
I was writing my post as yours went up, so my putting "the conversation" in quotes is not directed at you. No offense.
You and "The White Guy" from this publication make me so happy with your existence.
I have hope. Not everyone can understand the touchy subject of race, and sometimes I get caught in it-- but some of you get it, and your words help me solidify my understanding of our society and our beautiful multicultural, multiethnic part in it.
Thank you.
Those are actually just a new set of talking points for a new generation of racist.
