Jack and Jill Politics: Barack Obama: Elitist or Uppity Nigger

  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
I read this yesterday for the first time- There is nothing a white man with a penny hates more than a n*gger with a nickel. I think that's what Hillary is trying to play to. To the lower class whites she's saying "Look at them. They're smarter than you, they're better educated than you and they have more money." And she allows it to be implied that the Obamas somehow deprived those whites of those opportunities to attend Princeton.

It's an ugly strategy. And it's especially ugly coming from the $109 million dollar Clintons.
  • Webb · 1 year ago
    I totally agree Jill.

Hillary, McCain and the "Republican Establishment" are blowing a dog-whistle (with a higher pitch than even the best-hearing dogs could hear).

There was a white man in PA who asked Obama if he thought that "elitist" really meant "uppity," and Obama responded, "I think it's just politics." ...BUT HERE IS THE RUB...IF THE WHITE MAN WAS SAVVY ENOUGH TO ASK THE QUESTION, HE MUST HAVE INTERPRETED THAT ELITIST=UPPITY...You best believe that he was NOT the only caucasian who interpreted it that way. They are hearing the whistle loud and clear.

It is all about uppity negro-ness.

About a month ago, as I (Black Woman)was doing my best to persuade a Hillary/Barack fence-sitter friend of mine (South Asian woman) to come over to the "O" side, she admitted to me that she cast her primary vote for Hillary because "Michelle seemed arrogant" on some interview. ???? The levels of wrongness, the levels of wrongness!!

She ultimately decided that Barack made more sense as a president than Hillary, but I look at my friend in a whole new way now. It was an epiphany. Where I thought we were on the same page about the "arrogance trap", we were miles and miles apart. Still are.
  • Kat · 1 year ago
    Webb,

I also saw that video of the white guy in PA asking Obama if elitist = uppity. I'll try and find the link to the video.

I don't think its a dog whistle, its a fog horn.

"This is a high tech lynching of an uppity black man"~ Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas at his confirmation hearing.

Substitute the word "media" for the word "high tech" to make this apply to Barack Obama.

It's the media that is Elitist and racist.
  • D. · 1 year ago
    Hold on:

How does someone saying that Obama is arrogant or displaying a sense of entitlement become racist?

Wasn't the same "entitlement" charged leveled at Clinton before Obama won IA?

That makes no sense to me.

And what does Mrs. McCain's inheritance have to do with this squabble?
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
Everybody hates an uppity nigger - WE ALL KNOW THAT.

Including but not limited to black Clinton surrogates it's a partial explanation to the nagging question: How they can support Hillary in light of the campaign tactics?
  • Tom · 1 year ago
If Obama's getting lynched, it's his words that have thrown on the noose. Come on, enough excuse making. The empty suit is just that, and his elitist bigot side is starting to show. You can't tell me that there wouldn't be cries from the Heavens if a white politician went to some conservative enclave and said "you know them urban folks stick to government programs and having all those babies out of wedlock because they're bitter about being expected to have personal responsibility." It would be "bye-bye, whitey."

Gotta go, gotta run to Whole Foods and pick up some arugula.
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
    Tom -

That's not what Obama did, but white politicians do it all the time!

Sometimes they speak it in code like the congressman that called Obama a boy a couple of days ago.
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
    D-

"How does someone saying that Obama is arrogant or displaying a sense of entitlement become racist?"

Please. You did identify yourself as black didn't you? You know the drill! There are many who don't take to educated black folks doing well and Hillary is simply trying to draw on those emotions.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
Mrs. McCain, aka wind-up Cindy came out and said "I don't know if you've heard those comments but I'm proud of my country." She was referring to Michelle Obama's statement. It NEVER occurred to wind-up trust fund Cindy that ANYONE could have a different experience than she had. It never occurred to her that in college, Michelle bunked with a white roomate who tried to get herself transferred to another dorm room because she didn't want to share a room with a BLACK WOMAN!

Of course Stepford Cindy is proud. She got a deal with the Feds after stealing pills. She inherited 100 million that she didn't have to work for...GO USA!
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
Obama's point about arugula was that the farmers were not growing crops that could make money; and, when they do, they are not getting a fair price...but, nice try Tom.

    The white man's sport

The election for President has always been the white man's game. In this game they dominate, they excel. They know the passes and rules. White men know how to WIN! Black men don't do so well in this sport. They flounder as they attempt to play by rules they don't clearly understand..and they FAIL. Then...along came Barack! A black man with mad skills. But, Barack didn't play by the rules..he reset the rules to impossibly high standards. Barack didn't just beat his opponent, HE BEAT THE GAME!....sora like, like....TIGER WOODS.

The white men are mad. They grumble that whenever one of THOSE guys learn to play our game, they end up beating us! They want the black man to stick to his own sports: rapping and bastketball. Now, there's going to be millions of inner city coloured kids training to break into our sport...GODDAMN IT, we can't let him win!
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Look at the pattern, the initial attempt was to marginalize Barack --sort of the (Jesse) Jacksonization of Obama, if you will (He only won SC b/c he is black)....etc..

Then came Ms Dragon lady Ferraro, whose sole purpose was to inject race and gender in the race..this opened the door for the Wright controversy.

Now you have this bitter flap..Hell folks ARE bitter, but when u point out that an Ivy League educated Black man is saying it--how do u think it looks to poor working class white America?

Elitist, condescending, out of touch--all code words for: he thinks he is above you, better which soon translates into uppity and who the hell does this n*gger think HE IS!!

lastly I watched that 60 mins episode where they asked HRC if barrack was a Muslim and she replied “I guess not, if he says so”--but earlier in that program--they had a small panel where this guy who was unemployed and had lost his health ins, wife had some illness (cancer I think)..the poor guy was so beaten he was crying.

He was asked who he would vote for, he replied, I like that Obama fella BUT I hear that he is a Muslim and does not read the same bible.

Republicans for the last 8 years have been able to exploit the fears working class voters. They don’t blog and rarely have time to read papers, but they do listen to radio and watch the conservative shows. The RNC plays on their prejudices and make them forget their current plight---that is the reason why these voters flock to the GOP and wonder why their lot in life haven’t changed….they DO become bitter only to get hoodwinked again 4 years later.

At the end of the day---is your racial attitudes so overbearing that it makes you forget about current economic status and well being?

2000-Monica Lewinsky—Bush “I pledge to restore honor and dignity to the WH.

2004 National security—vote for us or Osama will get you. Same sex marriage-you vote for these liberals and they will change the constitution and Homosexuals will take over.

2008-Barak Hussien Obama is the Manchurian candidate who is an uppity Negro who thinks he is better than you!

The Obamas just got out of debt and their house is their only asset. Yes some people aren't homeowners, but to put in perspective Miley Cyrus has more money than the Obamas and she's 15. The Clintons and McCains are multi-millionaires and very well-connected. Hillary and John's chief strategists were both working for the same company at the same time in addition to their campaigns. Often she would say something that he concurred in a coordinated attack on Obama. Clinton's charge of entitlement has to do with her assumption and the media's for that matter that she was going to be the Democratic nominee. It was supposed to be inevitable. Obama's campaign has done so well that her nomination is all but over - except if she can derail his. It is not about their positions on policy that drives her campaign attacks. She has used all of her supporters to bring up Obama's racial background as means of diminishing his candidacy. Ferraro said he wouldn't be doing so well in the campaign if he wasn't a Black man; Bob Johnson referred to him as a drug dealer; she has other pundits talking about how sexism is worse than racism. Their goal is to fuel racist attitudes and resentments and let that be a powerful enough distraction that people will vote based on an emotion or an attitude instead of voting based on policies that would be in their best interests. Typically Republicans did this to their Democratic opponents [see: William Horton ad] but this time Clinton is specifically doing this to Obama, another Democrat. The Clintons have had 2 decades to solidify their power base and curry favor. They have been cozying up to a lot of Republicans in the media and in office who had previously attacked them to in turn attack Obama which makes it even more despicable. They have also started an intrigue and then claimed it originated with the Obama campaign. Every state or caucus she has lost she has insulted and dismissed the voters by saying [her or her surrogates] it was a small state, or it didn't matter, or people behave like cult members..anything to diminish the win. She would follow basic decorum and congratulate him when he won. I have not mentioned the fact that she has been caught lying and she says she 'mis-spoke' because she was tired. Or the fact that while everyone mentions the $109 million they've earned they have not in fact released their 2007 returns and probably have even more money than that. Bill got $800K from the Columbian gov't for speaking fees, Mark Penn was negotiating an expansion of a NAFTA-like trade agreement with them while working as her senior strategist and she is listing her official policy as being opposed to such agreements. I'm not saying that Obama hasn't made mistakes but he has not denigrated Clinton in any way, brought up any of her dirty laundry when he certainly could have and doesn't fan the flames of animosity. The current administration has violated numerous int'l laws, destroyed lives and tanked the economy. We haven't seen the extinct of the damage yet. The question is who would most likely get us back on course and work for our interests as citizens of this country and the world versus who is interested in acquiring power and dominance at our expense. If we can't get it together and focus on what's really important we will have blown this country's chance to regain it's footing.

No, what is the drill? Cause in the circles I operate in, that type of thought doesn't exist.

    Timeline of a media lynching:

    1. Saturday Night Live does a skit in which the media is portrayed as being easy on Obama.

    2. At the Cinncinatti debate Hillary Clinton accuses the media of being soft on Obama.

    3. It's On like Tyrone!

The media and Hillary are bashing Obama so the GOP won't have to.

    _____________________________________

I have to disagree with this assertion.

When I heard the comment, I immediately asked myself how were my dad and brothers going to take this? So I called them.

My dad, a swing voter, voted for Clinton, then Bush, and Obama for Senate. Leaning Obama for president, he was 'very disappointed.''He just doesn't get people like us. This could finish him against McCain.'

He was sticking by Obama after the Wright incident. 'His pastor may be racist but I'm not going to say that that means he (Obama) is,' he told me.

My brothers, all under 40, busy raising families, trying to get ahead, work hard and love to hunt, play paintball, and enjoy the outdoors in their spare time.

They are all Catholic. All swing voters. They are split, 2 for Obama, 2 for McCain.

They all voted for Obama for Illinois Senator.

They all agree that this is going to hurt Obama with white men their age. Why? Because it makes him look 'snobby' and 'phony.' My brother don't like snobs and phonies. But I do not think that is the same thing as calling a black man 'uppity.'

Is this a dog-whistle? I don't think so. Racists were against Obama from day one.
  • D. · 1 year ago

I interpret elitist not as snobbish, or wealthy, but insulated.

Obama has lived a life of experience and achievement in very insulated environments: The Ivy League and south side Chicago politics.

In the rarefied, liberal, politically correct, academic world he was able to develop and showcase his talents.

Always aspiring to politics, he used his position as a community organizer and a member of a prominant black church to gain advantage and credibility with the 'machine politicians' in Chicago.

When Obama ran for Senator from Illinois, his more challenging competition self destructed in sex scandal. The Republican party is a shadow of its former self and the best they could do was recruit Alan Keyes. No Republican or Independent I know voted for Keyes.

So, in that sense, I feel Obama's comments were elitist. He truly has little knowledge or experience with rural America other than reading 'What's the Matter with Kansas'.
  • DWS · 1 year ago
If a group of people get where they are by virtue of lies and deceit (read: changing the rules, altering the playing field to exclude), do they really think they can remain there forever? I think the clock is ticking and some folks are afraid.

Sadly, when some folks become afraid they tend to do REALLY stupid things.

Nope, never. Quiet as it's kept, I'm the intelligent underachiever.

But this isn't about me. I've been accused of arrogance, and it's not once been from the "uppity negro" standpoint.

You can be arrogant and stand on your achievements-which is what I do-without being uppity.

    I don't see the racism.
  • s · 1 year ago
Americans wants their leaders to be special or 'elite' but they also want them to possess a certain humility, and common touch, so that at the end of the day, they can say, "I may not agree with this candidate on everything, but I feel comfortable knowing that he in most ways, he represents me."

Obama has this problem among white rural voter because they are the group that is most removed from his own experience. They hunt, they bowl, they drink beer, they belong to a traditional church and they express their love of their country by flying the fag and wearing lapel pins, and they don't eat arugula.

they are not who Obama knows best.

Obama would have been better off to admit the obvious differences, racial, educational, and cultural and not presume to know their motivations. He would have done better to acknowledge his limits. Offer solutions he truly believes in, trust in his message and assume the best about rural whites, rather than the worst.

if he had done that, no one would be talking about how 'uppity' he is. They would be applauding his courage to admit his limitations.

I'd also like to get your thougts on the liberty statement.

    ms. martin,

I'm white, my family has roots in rural Indiana, and south side blue-collar Chicago, I have cousins and uncles who are farmers, and I don't get it?

Jill is wondering why this "meme is sticking" and I am trying to give you a view into the world in which I live.

I simply reject the "What's the Matter with Kansas?" premise.

Could it be one of the reason's why Dems lost to Gingrich was because it wasn't about the 'wedge' issues?

Re: your request for my thoughts on the liberty statement, here goes:

I interpret the liberty statement to say that until the Democrat party can find a way to reach out to white, rural voters and give them a piece of the pie, too, we are never going to have a Democrat majority.

'...making them pay the whole price of liberty' could mean 'offer them only white guilt for the sin of slavery?'

I don't agree with this either, because I don't think voters concerns and problems are necessarily solved through big government programs.

Thanks for asking me my opinion. I enjoy the debate.

  • s · 1 year ago
    ms. martin,

Of course there are racist, whites, blue-collar and rural who will not vote for Obama, but it is not because of his 'Bittergate' statements.

Racists know no party affiliation. In fact, in my own family, the bigots are life-long Democrats.

My interpretation on Clinton's quote was not to voice my feelings about liberty, but to 'decode' it.

Bill Clinton was speaking about white southern men, so I was trying to interpret it from the viewpoint of white southern men.

I do feel that 'white guilt' is real. Look no further than liberal commentator, Mark Shields, quoting a Republican congressman, Tom Davis, as saying ' He said, "With one vote, you can eliminate 400 years of guilt with that vote."

I do, in fact, share your view on Liberty.

See how hard it can be to get into someone else's head? My bad.
  • s · 1 year ago
    ms martin,

    And just to add:

Only whites are responsible for slavery.

and are you saying that your 'understanding' of me is something that I demand (a tax is not negotiable) in exchange for your liberty?

I make no demand of you. I would appreciate your understanding my point of view, but it is not required. You are free to think of me as you choose.

If the speech had remained behind the closed doors of the private fundraising, it would not be an issue but like Black People in America, no one wants to be Anylized about their shortcomings and that is what Obama did in a political version of BEHIND THEIR BACKS. Even during the last debate in Philadelphia, Obama conceeded that he made a mistake in doing that. I respect that he acknowledged the foot-n-mouth error and will take steps to fix it.

Obama mentioned his church during his appearance with Oprah.
It's the Trinity Church of Christ.

Please read and go to this church's web site and read what is written there. It is very alarming.

Barack Obama is a member of this church and is running for President of the U.S. If you look at the first page of their web site, you will learn that this congregation has a non-negotiable commitment to Africa.

No where is AMERICA even mentioned. Notice too, what color you will need to be if you should want to join Obama's church... B-L-A-C-K!!!

Doesn't look like his choice of religion has improved much over his (former?) Muslim upbringing.

Are you aware that Obama's middle name is Mohammed? Strip away his big smile and smooth talk and what do you get? Certainly a racist, as plainly defined by the stated position of his church! And possibly a covert worshiper of the Muslim faith, even
    today.

This guy desires to rule over America while his loyalty is totally vested in a Black Africa!

I cannot believe this has not been all over the TV and newspapers.

This is why it is so important to pass this message along to all of
    our family & friends.

To think that Obama has even the slightest chance in the run for the presidency, is concerning.
