Behind This Clinton "Popular Vote" Silly Math

Started by baratunde aka jack turner · 12 months ago

There’s a wonderful post over at dKos that really breaks down the b.s. behind Clinton’s assertion of a popular vote lead (recognizing that only delegates matter but also recognizing the psychological strength of the popular vote).

I’ve lost most of my desire to respond to every Clinton claim at this point. After all, I don’t ... Continue reading »

  • This is getting scary. I think you folks are a wee bit in denial at the depth of this crap...
  • Hillary is not going anywhere. Not even Bill's Oval Office blowjob and the resulting humiliation could make her leave. Hillary ignores rejection.

Right up until and including the convention, she will be attempting to poach Barack's delegates. She may even insist on being included in Obama and McCain debates. She may continue to have rallies and make appearances. Of course, undermining Barack all the way and casting doubt on his legitimacy.

..Unless the superdelegates come out forcefully and make it known that Barack is the presumptive nominee.

She is getting ready to make the argument that the bogus popular vote makes her equally entitled to be considered presumptive nominee.

Of course it's all bull. But it's enough to divide our attention and split Barack's energies in not being able to wrap things up. And we know the MSM will love the spectacle.

...Of course, this is speculation. She could do something completely uncharacteristic and concede.
  • I'll listen to her "I am winning the popular vote" nonsense when...

    No, wait...I WON'T!

The HRC campaign has constantly ignored the fact that the popular vote isn't included from caucus states.

Here's some math...46. That's the number of delegates Barack needs for the nomination. He'll have that on Wednesday, when nearly all of the remaining superdelegates declare for Obama.

Here's another number...90%. That's the approximate percentage of remaining superdelegates that HRC needs. Not happening.
  • She's omitting ALL caucus states.

She's NOW saying that she's going to make every effort to switch the superdelegates.

Worst of all, she's getting help now from her newfound soulmates, Fox.

They've actually done it. They've come out today and said there's supposed to be that Michelle Obama tape that Larry Johnson has kept threatening but never been able to produce and that that is why Clinton isn't getting out of the race.

Bastards. These people are total animals.

    Make Her Stop!

Hillary is totally out of her mind. She can't accept that Barack has won & she's in denial and making a complete fool of herself! The Media need to stop acting like Hillary has a legitimate chance of winning! It's maddening!
  • People her campaign is DOA. She is trying to stay relevant. The Corporate Media is her friend. They're going for those that take them at their word instead of checking facts. It is very annoying. Obama will use this to shoot down any request for a Clinton involvement in his administration. After all of their lying I cannot see how they would seriously and convincingly support an Obama presidency to the public, but I say let them grovel and give them NOTHING! Donna Brazille should be the next DNC chair.
  • As Obama supporters do you feel good about the Michigan compromise? Do you want this to be the direction of the Democratic party for years to come?
  • I'm having a hard time buying this "whitey tape" rumor.

As far as scandals go, Hillary needs "dead girl/live boy" type of material. Meaning, she'd need a crime . . . hookers and cocaine type of ish.

It would have to be blatant "I hate white people" type of material. It couldn't leave any room for interpretation. That means it couldn't be taken out of context (which most tapes are). It would have to be something so racist. . . basically, the equivalent of Michael Richards' tirade . . . that Obama would have absolutely no room for defense or explanation. And even then, it still wouldn't be Obama saying it (although it's hard to disown one's wife).

Plus people have noted that, if (and that's a big "IF") such a tape exists, the Republicans wouldn't waste it for Hillary's sake. They'd keep that sucker locked in a safe until the last week in October.

Obama would have to be. . . and let me stress this. . . the DUMBEST politician ever to embark on this historic campaign knowing that such a tape exists. . . especially as a black man.

This rumor has been around since mid-May. We live in a YouTube era. You can't hide that type of stuff for weeks. Someone would have leaked it by now. In fact, that type of material would have hit YouTube the moment someone found it.

Plus, I'd think Obama would've tried to soften the blow if such a tape existed. I've heard nothing from him about this. Which means we'd have to believe that Obama willingly assumes the position the "sitting duck."

Again, he'd have to be the DUMBEST politician ever to let the rumor persist if it had any shred of truth to it.

That makes me think the rumor is false and Obama knows that giving it any discussion only does more harm than good.
  • Re: the popular vote. . .

Strategically speaking, Obama would have to be the DUMBEST politician ever to let Hillary make her popular vote spin if he knew it had ANY traction with enough superdelegates to sway the nomination.

This is nothing new. She's been saying this for the past two months. We've talked about this before. I know I've talked about her popular vote myth on several occassions here.

I'd have to think that Obama wouldn't let Hillary make that argument if he knew she had ANY chance of persuading the superdelegates. He wouldn't have allowed Hillary to run up the score in KY and WV if there was any possibility that the "popular vote" held credibility with the supers.
