Fuck them.
They stood by that racebaiter against the first truly VIABLE Black candidate for President of the United States.
Not only did they stand by her, but some of these Sambo Shufflers were ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS in the racebaiting.
So, HELL NO
Get.rid.of.ALL.OF.THEM.
Were the Clinton's really more persuasive than their entire constituencies? I can't see Obama thwarting the will of the people to protect these guys. Whatever.
I've already said some of the CBC sistas were crushing on Obama and were old enough to be his Mama. He took a pass on old poon; if they're honest, with the exception of Maxine Waters (she was initially pissed off with Obama because he was too chummy with Joe Lieberman)the remaining sistas (and they know who they are) need to admit that when Obama turned down a chance in the sack with them, they became "women scorned".
I was here in DC during CBC Weekend 2004 - I witnessed Obama get traumatized by those sistas before I knew who he was; he was the new kid on the Block - a skinny, light-skinned, purple-lipped, but rather attractive brotha with the funny name, running for a seat in the U. S. Senate. I had to Google him to find out who he was.
I also witnessed Harold Ford Jr.'s nose get bent out of shape, because he was the Price of the CBC and was being knocked off his throne by the light-skinned, skinny, purple-lipped brotha with the funny name.
They were all MasterCard moments.
And now, since they've dissed Obama and he's THE MAN, the CBC members facing primary challengers and pissed off constituents and want him to protect their re-election efforts by endorsing or campaigning for them. I say it's high time they get shaken out of their comfort zones and stop mailing in their performances like Al Wynn did.
You know what happened to Fat Albert. He's now an ex-member of Congress, but he landed on his feet, working for the largest energy rip-off lobbying firm in DC.
They became comfortable in those "safe" districts; so comfortable that they thought they could continue to sell out our interests for pennies on the dollar and not have it come back on their asses.
They continued to support Hillary even after the race-baiting. Even Charlie Rangel, Hillary's benefactor in the New York Political Circle, began to say "Hold Up" when her campaign got out of hand. If he saw it, what the hell was the matter with Stephanie Tubbs-Jones? Even Sheila Jackson-Lee knew she was sounding lame at the State of the Black Union back in February, trying to talk up Hillary and getting cold stares from the audience.
And I see Tavis has climbed under his rock - not even bothering to congratulate Obama for winning the nomination. Straight hater, just like Ford.
Even if Obama doesn't win, his nomination places him where no Black Man has ever been before. If he loses, he still returns to the Senate, still a powerful, influential Senator. He will still have a good deal of clout and his goodwill will always be desired. The fact that Obama broke through the old guard and got stuff done the way Martin, Malcolm and Medgar would have done, is sending shock waves down their spines because deep down inside, those old fogies thought it could never be done; a grass-roots effort, that is.
It can't be comfortable for them right now, but they have to pay the price for treason, and I'm not talking about supporting Hillary; I'm talking about selling their votes to Big Oil, Telecommunications, Finance, the environment, and failing to filibuster bad legislation that is now law.
For those infractions, they should be made to pay the price.
Those CBC members -- like the rest of *most* Black Americans -- were gift wrapped and hand-delivered the very thing we've always wanted: a Black person with a serious chance to be president. Yet they acted as though they were smarter than us; as if there was something so much better in store for them, that it was worth the acceptance of race-baiting, cultural mockery and ethnic humiliation.
Well, since they wanted so badly to follow the lead of the Clintons, let them keep following.
I have pledged 1000.00 and will match another 500. for a Serious Canidate who will
UNSEAT Sheila Jackson Lee.
She's safe now, and if rumors are true back at the crib, she might be setting her eyes on Kay Bailey Hutchinsons Senate Chair , assumimg Kay runs for Gov.
(Her logic is, if Barack is Pres. surely he'll use his power to get her in that chair)
Whatever the case, I will make a determined effort to UNSEAT Sheila Jackson Lee.
In Houston Politics are simple. He or she who rules the Media gets the seat. Radio spots, commercials, being seen at Rocket, Comets or Texans games, and a couple of interviews will lock it up as long as you are registered as a Dem. Sheila knows this. Thats why she's a staple on local Tv. and Radio.
I cant get past her literally campaigning in every single state with Hillary. It was like she was Hillary's black shadow.
And there's something small that could festor into something big for a Jr Congressman or Woman from NY. I dont know where Chelsea lives, but I would keep an eye on that. I get the strange feeling that once Chelsea puts her foot in the water, in NY, except for Rangels seat, she's gonna take it.
CNN and even MSNBC are reporting that Bill may push her to atleast try. If this happens, I wander how loyal those NY CBC will be once they see the machine come after there seats..
Are you for real? Tavis hasn't even congratulated him?
Tavis is indeed a 'small small man.'.
Clinton's CBC members can be held accountable for not trying to force Hillary to address the various racial innuendo's raised in this election. Thoughts?
PRE-RACEBAITING.
It's the POST-RACEBAITING, with them sticking with her, and always being willing to be put forth to put a Black face on her heinousness that crossed the line.
They've got to go.
I like it.
Right up there with my all time favorite handkerchief heads.
Got any more, apt, relevant descriptions of these go-along-to-get-alongs.
DITTO! DITTO! DITTO!
From your lips to the ears of the people living in these districts to tell them to wake up! You have been sold out, used, bamboozled, set astray, you know the rest...
If only we could just let them know how these people have been taken advantage of their good will and hopes for years, supporting Hillary because they thought she would wrap her arms of protection around these house negroes.
The flat out audacity of these people is just amazing, maybe they think that Obama will treat them with such forgiveness as their constituents have all of these years -- not!
From my perspective as an observer, I agree with Rikyrah that it was the post race-baiting support that was unforgivable. Even now that he has the Nom., I don't think they've given Obama his due respect.
Truthseeker, many heavyweight AA Hillary supporters did say what you outlined - John Lewis (before his switch), Tubb-Jones, Jackson-Lee etc. said that they respected Obama and thought he had a good message. They said it AD NAUSEAM. Apparently some people weren't listening.
Conversely, I find it ironic and contradicting that so many AA's accuse Hillary - right or wrong - of racism and black Hillary supporters of 'beggin and shufflin', and house negroism but cannot see or acknowledge the racist vitriol of their own words and actions.
I thought Obama was fighting against [and is trying to lead people away from] this kind of behavior?
They paid weak lip service to it, actually. But that's beside the point. At best, they were quite about the race-baiting. At worst there were part of it.
What does "switched in time" mean, exactly? In my mind, the people who endorsed Obama after he all but officially won the thing don't count as people who switched in time.
However, the point of the superdelegate system was supposed to be a 'failsafe'; a separate, ancillary voting process in case the electorate 'got it really wrong'. Therefore, by definition the CBC is supposed to use their own judgment. For that reason, I do not fault them for voting their own views. It was not treachery, it was politics.
HOWEVER... now that they HAVE exercised 'their own judgment', they need to stand up and take the consequences of their decisions -- and stop whining about the anger of their constituents. They knew the deal when they deliberated over their votes.
They made their beds and should now lie in it.
Barack, in my estimation, was the better candidate, period. It had nothing to do with race for me.
It is not right or fair to expect people to vote purely or even mostly in racial solidarity - that is how we got so many crappy black mayors.
They need to stop begging Barack for a handout, and start putting something on the table for their constituents -- the CBC must give the people a REASON to let them keep their literal and metaphorical seats.
