What?? The Chinese government went back on it's word?? Stunning.

I think we should send all the MSM to China permanently, they NEED to be censored.

For the rest of us, this is an opportunity to play hardball. There should be a worldwide boycott. And, the athletes should shut the hell up about how hard they've worked, there are far more important things in the world than potential future endorsement earnings. Irrational, I know but I'm entitled.

Obama has spoken out numerous times about China having too much power over America because of the deficit. We owe them a load of money. By the way, Obama's not president yet.

The entire world is dependent on the Chinese economy so that why you hear so little protest from world leaders about the lack of freedom and access for journalists. I think we will look back on this Olympics in a similar way that we look back at the Olympics held in Germany during the Third Reich -- this is a competition being held in an oppressive, dangerous atmosphere where people are not free. My hope is that the Olympics create a global conversation about freedom and human rights. We'll see.

    ... Funny.

USA and UK occupy Diego Garcia, expelled all of ITs inhabitants, and transform THEIR land into a military base.
Until today they STILL fighting on the UK courts.
    Who cares?

USA sits on the human rights as China does!

The Olympic committee (IOC) dumbA$$ they should be more strict to china, china just bitch slap IOC and the world. World Media should cover what going on, it's a world events.

I think China is going to be a huge disaster. The air quality is so bad anyone with respiratory problems will struggle to compete outdoors. The censorship thing will show how the media will play lap dog to anyone at home or abroad as long as they can keep feeding from the corporate trough. There are home grown terrorists threatening to disrupt the game with violent protests while China practically denies they even exist. I worry about the safety of the athletes. All of them.

I lived in China for a year and I agree with you that the pollution is going to be a real problem for athletes outdoors (and even indoors). I too am concerned about the safety of the athletes and frankly if we'll even hear the truth at all about what's happening over there during the Olympics.

If there was any question before it should be clear after this the Olympics this year is going to by a cross between the summer Olympics of 1936 and the Nuremberg rallies in the previous year. I am not watching.

Chinese government and Chinese people are two different things. People need to be clear which one they are talking about.

While China's censorship of news websites is deplorable, the U.S. is engaged in a far more restrictive, freedom-crush brand of censorship in the health industry: The U.S. FDA censors truthful descriptions of health products. Like China's government at the Olympics, the FDA has outlawed free speech of nutritional supplement companies, threatening them with fines, or even jail time for them if they don't remove all text from their website and products that seek to inform consumers about the real benefits of their products. Every government, you see, has its power base to protect, and in the US, the power base is the corporations. Threaten the corporations by telling the truth about nutritional supplements, you’re arrested or run out of the country. It happens in US daily. Why are all the effective cancer clinics South of US? Skeptics may say that China's censorship is worse because it deals with human rights violations. Could the FDA's censorship of real health information BE as bad?
