Jack and Jill Politics: Citizens of the World . . . “Hope” Knows No Boarders

  • pjamma · 1 year ago
New estimates from MSNBC reporter Athena Jones who covers the Obama campaign put the crowd at over 200,000
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago
pjamma: We'll take that! Read 'em and weep "mcancient". Oh, by the way, "How many people could fit into the GERMAN Restaurant IN OHIO???"
  • Bronze Trinity · 1 year ago
GreenLadyHere that was a slick diss LOL! On CNN they announced that while Obama was speaking in front of 200,000 people McCain visited a German restaurant and ate bratwurst! Hahahhahaha! Obama's campagin machine is GIFTED! Who in the world gives a speech in front of 200.000 people before he's even president. People LOVE that man! This is the first international political campaign and its a Black man, a sexy Mofo too, taking care of business!
  • Lynne · 1 year ago
The media here is saying at least 100,000 people came out...but German newspapers are saying 200,000 - whatever the case may be.....I watched a black man stand in Berlin and give a speech before people waving the US Flag and listening intently to his every word.....I have to keep looking out this window to make sure the four horsemen aren't coming thru the clouds - this is amazing.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
"...I have to keep looking out this window to make sure the four horsemen aren't coming thru the clouds.."

    Ha!

But then, the Repubs would put out a press release saying Barack's the antichrist.

    It IS stunning.

We have George W. Bush to thank for this.

This stuff is UNBELIEVABLE people! Those pundits waiting for him to make a mistake and he was perfect! Okay nobody's perfect but he's close enough for me. When he wins I'm going to just going to cry, let it all out, and then be the best person I can be because I will have HOPE that I can do something great and that there are good things out there for me! I'm so proud of Barack Obama!

Ok, senator Brownback? is on CNN and he's singing the McCain Refrain:

C'mon everybody, sing along with me....

The surge, the surge the surge the surge,
The surge, the surge the surge the surge,
The surge, the surge the surge the surge the surge
The surge, the surge the surge the surge,
The surge, the surge the surge the surge the surge, the surge

    CHORUS
The surge, the surge the surge the surge,
    The surge
    the surge the surge
    REPEAT

The surge, the surge the surge the surge,
The surge, the surge the surge the surge,
The surge, the surge the surge the surge the surge
The surge, the surge the surge the surge,

    BRIDGE
    The surge, the surge,
    The Suuurgeeeee

    REPEAT CHORUS

Uuuggggggghhh. Can we please talk about a strategy for Iraq and Afghanistan going forward. I am so sick of hearing about the "success" of the surge.
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
    It's a bad song.

So far, only Rachel Maddow and Joan Walsh (yup, that one) have told the truth about Barack's position on the surge.

They act as if he's given it no credit at all. He has. He's just not saying the words, "I was wrong" which is the only thing the other side wants to hear and then they can put those words in an ad and continue to attack him on the surge.

    Barack ain't stupid.

And, I responded to you in the other post about Clarence Page.
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
    Thank you all.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
You're a magnificent writer Craig, I've been meaning to say that. What I've read of your blog, it's as if you've breathed life into the form of the words and animated them. And I'm not bullshitting about that either.

You're the second stunningly talented black male I've encountered in my journeys online. The other one writes poetry and doesn't seem aware of how good it is.
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
    Blush.

    Hahahahaha!
  • Honey01 · 1 year ago
I agree that Craig is an amazing writer.

Craig, I was just over on your blog Craig reading your amazing bio.
I was curious when you mentioned "adult adoption", which was a term I was unfamiliar with.

    Also,
I gather you are a big fan of James Baldwin? He is my favorite author. One of fondest memories is when my father took me to a James Baldwin book (The Evidence of Things Unseen) signing as a little girl. I remember he was impressed my dad had me there. I still have the book, ok getting emotional. Back on topic.
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
Baldwin (I named by dog J.B. after him, after my original name's initials, after my mate's initials) is my favorite writer and speaker by a country mile.

I'm not sure I'd still be here without his work.
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago
Another tid-bit: Mayor Michael Bloomberg will commend "mcAncient" in a speech on Friday at the Minnesota Independence Party event. He's doing so BECAUSE "mcancient" applauded his educational reforms in New York City.

    www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/24/bloomberg-pra...

Question: "Whycome" Bloomberg would trust "mcancient's" reading and understanding of a document entitled "educational reform" when he admitted to being #894 [fifth from the bottom] in a class of 899?? Just asking. . .
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
When did Bob Herbert decide that the polls are all lying and that Barack's numbers are lower and McCain's numbers are higher?

I never pegged him as a shill.

    What have I missed?

I smelled another crab in the barrel when reading some of his recent stuff. Something is going on, and we better get wise quickly.

LMAO@ the neo-cons on the talk shows...they are beside themselves....OMG....when McCain's plane landed in New Hampshire yesterday, only one reporter was there.... someone please...stop the bleeding.

Lynne: Chris Matthews had a field day with the NUMBER 1 in the BIG NUMBER segment of his show. It was "bend over, cain't catch your breath laffin' time"!!! :>) :>)

P.S. And he was waving as if throngs of people were there! It was HILARIOUS! :>) :>)
  • Bronze Trinity · 1 year ago
Oh diss!!! Its almost sad how boring McCain is!
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
I just wanted to share this from Daily Dish:

I’ve noticed that McCain, and the right in general, are latching on to Obama’s statement that he was speaking as a “proud citizen of the United States and a fellow citizen of the world.” I see an attempt at cultural warfare in the making, and it should be squelched fast. The argument from the right appears to be that only some squishy leftist would call himself a “citizen of the world,” or that using the term suggests less than a full attachment to one’s own country (even if accompanied by a statement like Obama’s that he’s a “proud citizen of the United States”). A reader over at Politico has already noted that John F. Kennedy used the same phrase in his famous inaugural address in referring to his global audience. I also did a one minute Google search – and I’m sure I could find more if I did a 15-minute Google search – and discovered that President George H.W. Bush used the exact phrase “citizen of the world” in presenting the national medal of the arts to Vladimir Horowitz, the legendary Russian-born pianist who became a US citizen in 1940. Was he insulting Horowitz as a lefty? I don’t think so. Also, Ronald Reagan introduced himself in a speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations as “both a citizen of the United States and of the world.” Do McCain and the right really want to start this meme?
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago
craig: And if it is not copyrighted, errybody can use it. People jes need ta pick! Whew! (Deep breaths)! :>) :>)
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
    McCain doesn't use Google.
  • Town · 1 year ago
I was listening to local talk radio and the meme was that because 200K people came out to see Obama, this obviously means he is either the Antichrist or the 2nd coming of Hitler, and him being a citizen of the world means he is for communism, socialism, liberalism and every other out there. The fact that he got into Harvard and Columbia means something is "wrong" and "shady" and all true Americans who aren't drinking the Kool Aid and who don't want Hitler Jr. to rise up need to wise up and vote McCain. I'm not making any of this stuff up.

I guess they conveniently forgot it was George H.W. Bush who was talking about "New World Order." No, 200K+ people coming to see Obama means he is planning world domination and we should all be scared.

Don't hate because your man can't even get TWO reporters on the tarmac, let alone 200K people. LOL
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
That's why I posted that comment from a reader of Daily Dish. It's all about laughter (from us) and forgetting (from them) at this point.

rikyrah: I'm straight sitting in front of my AIR CONDITIONER watching videos/pics of Mr. Obama - 'cause he's too FIIIINE! [Did I say that already?] At any rate, I've started the search that you requested [German newspapers].

    www.nytimes.com/2008/07/25/us/politics/sub25OBA...

You know, I just thought of something - I'm the LAST person who shoud be trying to collect addresses. You know that I mess up more times than not! Oh well! :>) I'll do like that "old school" song, I'll keep SEARCHING! :>) :>)[by the Coasters :>) :>)]

    rikyrah: 2 more -

    www.berlinnews.com

    www.voanews.com/english/2008-07-24-voa68.cfm?rs...

The headline for this one read:
"Obama Speaks in Berlin, McCain Focuses on Economic Issues at Home"

    Is this the ULTIMATE DISS!? :>) :>) :>) :>)

Can't you just hear Mr. Obama saying to "MCANCIENT" upon his return: "I went away for a week and TOLD you to watch this place while I was gone. What did you do to IMPROVE SOMETHING in all that time? Nothing??? Then you have "TIME OUT"! Now go sit in the BAD CHAIR!!" :>) :>) [musing to herself] :>) :>)

I was about to go into the university but I had to stay home to watch the news. Its really surreal to see a Black man addressing 200,000 people in Europe and that he might become President. Its like a dream. Its amazing how many countries were receptive to him. I had a fear that some would be really racist to his face but I haven't heard about that. What a brilliant campaign move. No one wants to see McCain's tired old ass saying a speech and he's complaining because he's jealous as hell. Obama just has it. He's Marsha Brady and McCain is the other one whatever her name was. Obama just has "something" . I heard Barack actually means "blessed by God" and I think that might be true!
  • msmartin · 1 year ago
Here, here. I am sick of McCain's jealously. It is not attractive.
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago
Bronze Trinity: Got to give you a "VIRTUAL DAP" on the SEXY!!! He looked that way in a yamulke in Israel, when he dresses down, as in Afghanistan, when he dresses up, as in Germany -- EXCUSE ME. Gotta go sit in FRONT of my AIR CONDITIONER!!! WHEW (real deep breaths)! :>) :>)

Gotta post this. Hope it's not a duplicate:

Even more hilarious is this quote from a German Newspaper:

Sein republikanischer Kontrahent John McCain und Senator Lindsey Graham hatte die Worte Obamas in "Schmidt's Fudge Haus" in Columbus (Ohio) verfolgt.

It's die diss heard round the world.

Rikyrah, you were looking for links to the German newspapers...

I don't speak German so the text of this article may very well be "Barack Obama is an Uppity Negro" (I'm kidding) but there is a 77 page photo blog of his Berlin visit that transcends language.
