Genarlow Wilson? Seems like the same old same old to me.
Baratunde (sic?) it was refreshing to see you on CNN right after the Iowa Caucus, but Jesse got the special walk in entrance and then he wanted to be condescending at that. I was horrified. Does he think he is going to live forever? You just noted how many people read what you and your contributors say on JJP, how many people go to his site? How many show up for his rallys?
I've said this time and time again. They are not my leaders. I will not make a sign and go anywhere to sing folk songs or shout until I get a headache. I will, instead, leverage my education, my influence, and help affect change.
Reading blogs is how I stayed informed (watch CNN and get the Black and Brown perspective from Blogs,) and then I send money where the Black and Brown blogs say to... I'm not marching anywhere.
for example, have any of you guys ever tried to post on the Hillary blogs? I read it occasionally to see what her supporters are thinking. Some posters complain their blogs aren't posted. I posted something and it didn't show up :). It's fascinating to see some repeat her talking points verbatim saying she has experience and he has only a speech.
They censor posts heavily and encourage the spreading of misinformation. They feed of each others misinformation. Posters are writing to the DNC and Obama campaign demanding the MI & FL delegates be seated as is. I think deep down they know this isn't fair 'cause they try to rationalize it with very bizarre reasoning, but are opposed to a 50/50 split. There is no recognition that the authority of the DNC can't be undermined by rewarding the states that broke the DNC rules, they just want their candidate to win. There is no effort to set the record straight over there.
With all due respect, everybody does this. One person's "propoganda" is another's "truth".
With regard to this race only, anecdotally I would say the Hillary campaign is guilty of doing this far more than is possible for the Obama campaign. I don't know if it's because Hillary is losing, which forces her supporters to scrape the barrel for inspiration. Or, if it's a result of the misinformation being fed to them from the campaign itself. For instance, the campaign says Barack is blocking the re-votes in MI & FL...but the truth is he has no authority over that. When the Clinton campaign proposed privately financing the re-votes, Obama had legitimate concerns over the poor precedent that would set with regard to democracy. It is clear also, he doesn't want to usurp the authority of the DNC which has already ruled on the situation...that would create problems for the party in the future. For Hillary to say he wants to disenfranchise the voters is untrue, but her supporters keep repeating it even though deep down, I think they know it's not true .. or fair.
DuBois was a Pan-Africanist, a student and scholar of black culture worldwide who challenged ideas and came up with an altogether new framework for thinking of what it means to be black.
He was not a reactionary; he would never incite folks to forego participation in the democratic process because of perceived "slights." Consider that, when DuBois started the NAACP, lynchings were at an all time high in this country, and the government did very little to prosecute the perpetrators. So, in essence, in the midst of state-sponsored terrorism, DuBois started an organization to ensure that people of color were involved in our blatantly corrupt political system.
Your various posts and rants to skip the election altogether if Senator Obama is not elected the Democratic nominee is reprehensible; this suggestion would be ANATHEMA to DuBois.
Blogs like yours are misinformed, at best, and incredibly counter-revolutionary and dangerous at your worst.
I'm a big fan of this blog, but you are absolutely right about this blog. Dubois was committed activist scholar. Organizations like the NAACP and UNIA and CORE actually moblized people to actually do something, to put their money and their bodies where their mouths are. I'm a blogger myself, but I don't mistake the kind of work I do on my blog with the kind of work I do in my classroom and my grassroots organizing.
