Jack and Jill Politics: Clinton Makes Case For WHITE Appeal

  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
    Exactly.

When she uses the words 'electable', 'white', and 'broad based' are used, she is making a pitch for white loyalty to herself.

Without the votes, delegates, or states, she must hope for the supers to overturn the will of the people.

And her strategy seems to be racist: rally a white voting bloc to her defence.

    Absolutely disgusting.

Her campaign has manipulated racial tensions throughout the campaign.

I get the nagging feeling that she's going to try and pull a Joe Lieberman and run as an "independent".

I'm wondering if she's convinced that if she can win the white female vote; the I-ain't-votin-for-a-Black-guy vote; and the I-ain't-voting-for-some-pinche-mallate vote, that she might have just enough votes to at least make sure that Barack doesn't win.

It's delusional, but then many diabolical narcissists get that way.
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
Michelle Bernard is sticking with her story that she thinks Hillary is trying to damage Obama so that she can make a run in 2012.

Her running as an independent makes sense; she would have two chances at it - 2008 and 2012.
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
I just heard the taped interview and it sounds worse than the print article.

I can't believe she actually went there.
  • Ronnie B · 1 year ago
The problem with her running as an independent, is that she would have literally no support. The only reason she's gotten this far is because the Democratic infrastructure respects her power in the party. If she leaves, then Bubba leaves by default. And once Bubba's gone, then they're on their own.

Worse for her, is that the rest of the electorate will see her and Bubba for what they really are: a couple of greasy, two-bit grifters.

Hillary Clinton has now gone officially and overtly racist in her campaign. If a Republican had said what she said that person's political career would be dead.

As for Hillary running as an independent, no way in hell. She doesn't have the money, and wouldn't have the party infrastructure, which is the only thing that has kept her campaign alive.

As for her appeal with white working class, give me a break. Does anyone think that Hillary Clinton has such broad appeal with the white working class? Sure, she may win some votes of the Democratic white working class, but that doesn't mean anything. It certainly does not mean any broad based appeal in a general election.

The Republican white working class would not vote for her in a general election, and that is the majority of this group. Most Democrats of all types will rally around Obama in the general election; they cannot stand the thought of a 3rd Bush term.

    Jack,

Seriously asking for you to get some of these Hardball clips. From what I'm reading here, as well as elsewhere, Wolfson put on a performance.

Plus, if Hillpatine's interview looks worse than it sounds, I want it out there for as many people to see.

Finally, if you can get the clip of Michelle Bernard saying that this is being done for 2012, I'd appreciate it.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
Yeah!...Matthews subjected Wolfson to a virtual anal probe.

Hillary is trying to rob African Americans especially of the magic of this moment. She sends out her surrogates to make appearances and says inflammatory things to take our eyes off Barack. She knows the only way she'll get coverage is if she says things like this. She's also inciting anger and activating latent feelings within African Americans. To what end....I'm not sure.

of the damning statement. If you listen really closely you can hear her saying "to me, all my pretty white honkies!" but then later in the movie she gets water splashed on her and she melts and melts away. Bring popcorn and soda cuz it's gonna be awesome.

I'm sticking to my earlier position on this. Obama needs to find a way to force her out.

This "give her space" stuff ain't gonna work; Hillary's race-baiting is just one of many reasons why.

I'm gonna keep saying it. Hillary wants TIME, not space. She needs more time to throw everything she can think of at Obama to see what sticks.

"Giving her space" is giving her an ENTIRE MONTH to keep doing stuff like this.

Obama doesn't have to be confrontational about it. He just needs to start releasing more super delegate endorsements to demonstrate his control on the nomination.

Rachel Maddow asked this question and I agree: Where's the rush of super delegates?

Seriously, how many more hoops does Obama have to jump through before the supers step in to bring this thing to a close?

While on "Meet the Press," Obama said he learned that you have to rip the band-aid off sometimes. You can't always afford to peel it off slowly.

He's got the momentum. He's got the positive press. He's got this nomination on lock.

The time to strike is when the opportunity presents itself.

I know he doesn't want to offend Hillary supporters, but, if she's gonna act like this, he needs to rip that band-aid right off right now.

Let it sting for a month and work double-time to heal the party.

Most anti-Obama sentiment coming from some of Hillary's supporters is sour grapes. Nothing more. Obama has been more than respectful to Clinton throughout this entire process. He hasn't cheated or moved the goal posts. He hasn't belittled Hillary's candidacy or her supporters.

Obama's biggest "sin" is nothing more than the fact that he beat her fair and square. He played by the rules and will lead in every metric by the time this thing is over.

He deserves the support he'd get from the super delegates. Supers need to ratify the leader in pledged delegates. It's really simple.

Giving Hillary "space" just gives her more time to try and take him down.

Hillary ain't gonna bow out gracefully. She's not going to run a positive campaign. That's wishful thinking.

Hillary doesn't deserve "space" to heal her bruised ego. That's all we're really talking about, here.

And trust. . . she'll spin her wins in West Virginia and Kentucky for all their worth . . . namely, continuing the "black guy can't get white voters" meme. What happens if it starts to stick? What happens when the media stops talking about ending the race and starts talking about Obama, "the guy who can't lose the nomination, but can't win the general election?" I've heard a few people say that's what the Clintons are trying to push.

Howard Wolfson basically said as much on Hardball this evening.

Enough is enough! Time to put this thing to bed!

At some point the Democratic party needs to worry about the damage that Clintons are doing to the Democratic party brand. The Clintons have already trashed their own brand, but what about the party's?

If a Republican had made similar remarks, that person would be drummed out of politics.

If the Clintons had made similar comments regarding Jewish people, for instance, stating that Christians would never vote for the Jewish candidate, the outcry would justifiably have been so great that

her career would be effectively over.

If a male candidate had stated that he had far greater success among males than Hillary, and suggested in many different ways that a woman could never win, that person would have been made an outcast in the political world.

Why are black people treated worse? ...as if one is supposed to just forgive and forget? Why are black people taken for granted?

We all need to put pressure on the leaders of the Democratic party to speak out openly against Hillary's blatant racism.

    B-Serious

I said earlier that we need to begin applying pressure to the superdelegates on this issue.

I can't believe they have allowed all that Hillary has done to date and this last incident is enough. I sugguest we all start contacting the DNC regarding her USA Today statements.

Hillary Clinton is running a "protection racket" about race. In a protection racket, the Mafia breaks the windows of a sstore. The next day, a guy from the Mafia visits the store, and tells the poor store owner: "There are some bad people who are breaking windows. I can protect you from these bad people, if you pay me $50 / week."

Hillary Clinton is doing EXACTLY THE SAME THING! She introduces the race card, makes us all miserable, then she says: "There are some bad people who won't vote for Obama because he's black. I can protect you from these bad people, if you give me the VP slot on the ticket."

In addition to being offensive, this isn't even true! John and Cindy McCain adopted a dark-skinned girl from Bangladesh in 1993 (by the way, in 2000, Bush used that against McCain). The prejudice stirred up by Hillary will not last forever. And McCain isn't going to play the race card, not like Hillary did!

Barack and Michelle are good people, and millions of Americans, black, white, Asian and Latino realize that. Barack doesn't need Hillary to introduce him to white folk. He doesn't need her at all.
  • GoldenAh · 1 year ago
    George Will on Obama:
McCain's problem might turn out to be the fact that Obama is the Democrats' Reagan. Obama's rhetorical cotton candy lacks Reagan's ideological nourishment, but he is Reaganesque in two important senses: People like listening to him, and his manner lulls his adversaries into underestimating his sheer toughness — the tempered steel beneath the sleek suits.

Hillary thought she had the nomination wrapped up 2 years ago but along comes this youthful, articulate, Harvard-educated, charismatic brotha with a fairly decent jumper putting the smackdown on the Clintons (note plurality..) plot to regain the White House.

Lawdy..lawd, why dat negro do dat?

Her comments are not really that surprising to me at this point as she (and Sweet Dick Willie) have use "race-isms" in a peculiarly veiled (NOT!) way for a majority of this campaign. At this point any black man or woman who votes for Clinton is a straight-up fool.

Let's keep it real...this bitch is trying kneecap Barry before the championship.

My girlfriend and I had a long dinner conversation that yielded an email to five Democratic party people that I’m going to post here as well. One thing that we were talking about is that the tendency to blur the line between supporting Obama and repudiating Clinton is not necessarily useful when it comes to clarity. Anyway, here’s the email we sent:

“Dear Mr. Andrew, President Carter, Rep. Grijalva, Gov. Napolitano, and Gov. Richardson:

We’ve been following the ongoing presidential primary races and are deeply distressed and hurt by the divisive, racist and morally reprehensible words and actions of Senator Clinton.

We are writing to the five of you with our concerns because of the Democratic Party leaders/elders we’re aware of, you seem most likely to understand what we want to communicate. Please feel free to share this message with anyone else you feel would understand or should see it.

Although we hope that Senator Obama becomes the Party nominee, that is not our focus here. Our distress and concern is much more basic. We want to know if Senator Clinton’s racist and divisive approach (including her recent USA Today interview comments) is consistent with the moral values of the Democratic Party.

In our view, Senator Clinton’s divisiveness and clear devaluation of voters who aren’t white raises core questions about her fitness and acceptability as a very public face of the Democratic Party. And she is a very public face of the Democratic Party right now, even though she is not the official nominee.

We are distressed and concerned that the Democratic Party has not clearly, unequivocally and publicly denounced and rejected her statements in both word and action.

We feel that the Democratic Party now has a deep moral obligation apart from the political maneuverings related to the nomination, and apart from the necessary work of supporting Senator Obama. Again, this is more basic than all that. What Senator Clinton is doing in promoting divisiveness and racism hurts. It is horrific and painful and it actually hurts. As long as the Democratic Party does not publicly repudiate and act against what she is saying and doing, it is telling us and the rest of this country that her actions are in fact acceptable within the Party’s value system.

So please. We really need see the Democratic Party communicate clearly and directly that Senator Clinton has crossed the line of acceptable behavior for a Democratic Party leader.

We really need to see the Democratic Party step up and tell us and the rest of the country that it does not condone or stand for this kind of divisive and racist practice.

And we really need to see the Democratic Party back its words up with action that shows us in no uncertain terms that it does not condone racism, even and especially when it comes from a Party leader.

We trust that you understand our distress and concern. Please do whatever you can. Please.

    Sincerely,

    [me and my girlfriend]“
