Jill, I don't know if I'd include Tavis Smiley as a Black Leader who's accountable.

Especially since all his events are underwritten by enemies of Black People economically and politically: Wal-Mart, CitiBank and McDonalds'.

When he can explain that, then he can be held accountable, too.

The CBC Monitor is way ahead on the accountability issue and you guys know this, because we're part of the 40-something, Baby Boomer set that got pissed off with the "leadership" coming out of the Congressional Black Caucus that did nothing more than sell us out, and sling their own members like Cynthia McKinney under the bus.

As a baby boomer I agree with your comments with the exception of Al Sharpton.

Al Sharpton, with whatever faults you see, has been one of the only so-called leaders to speak truth to power even when they ridicule and try to dismiss him as an irrelevant minstrel. He is not. Don't fall into the media trap of trying to make a laughingstock out of this man, who despite the attempts of the recognized organization you correctly state now work against our interest because they are beholden to their mast... benefactors, that the concerns and issues affecting the masses of our people are of little consequence to them.

As long as they can continue to have their awards banquets and conventions to shovel their manufactured accomplishments, which year after year have done nothing to improve the lives of our people, they will be allowed by the media to continue this outrageous conduct. These are the people who should receive your ridicule.

You might not like his methods at times, but his heart is in the right place. He loves Black people, and you can't say that about these organizations that have sold us out a long, long time ago.

Now that truly wants to make you HOLLA!

Does it seem strange to you all that the old guard and the supposedly new Vanguard:

    1) All share the same left of center ideology

    2) Would both label themselves "progressives"

    3) Will both vote for the same person as President in the general election

4)Would continue to use the Democratic party as the main vehicle for THEIR notions of Black political progress?

How is it that you all can point to "40 years" as the post indicated but fail to make note that YOU ALL will be these same people in 40 years and a new group will be inspecting your accomplishments or lack there of?

Doesn't this speak to the need to be beholden to EFFECTIVENESS AT ACHIEVING COMMON GOALS rather than IDEOLOGICAL DOGMA - as you all clearly are - to be mandate #1? You all are all about maintaining METHODOLOGY rather than ENDS.
