    Hitting a Nerve.

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks" is the famous Hamlet quote referring to pleas of innocence that actually indicate guilt. Did Obama, the near-certain Democratic Party nominee for president, "protest too much" in complaining about Bush's speech to Israel's Knesset on Thursday?

According to the senator, "George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the president's extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel."

Judging from the standing ovations the president received, our Israeli allies — who have the most to fear from a nuclear Iran — disagree. Moreover, Kennedy's blockade of Cuba, Nixon's Vietnamization (reneged on by the post-Watergate Democratic Congress) and Reagan's years of defense buildup and "evil empire" saber-rattling before agreeing to a Soviet summit all belie Obama's invocation of those presidents.

Furthermore, the terrorists themselves know a President Obama will engage with them. The chief political adviser to Hamas' Gaza leader Ismail Haniyeh is on record as saying, "We like Mr. Obama, and we hope he will win the election."

Earlier this month, Obama described the takeover of West Beirut by Hezbollah gunmen as a "power grab" and declared, "It's time to engage in diplomatic efforts to help build a new Lebanese consensus."

Letters found on the seized computer of Raul Reyes, the warlord with Colombia's Marxist-Leninist FARC terrorist group who was killed in an army strike in March, happily reported that "two gringos" he met assured him that Obama would win the election.

"Lord, if I could only have talked to Mahmoud" will be words of little comfort to future victims of nuclear terrorism

To many Americans, it's really odd for a terrorist organization to say they want to see a particular candidate elected. It's really, really odd to see a candidate's advisor secretly meeting with a terrorist organization.

It's Onion-parody level odd to see Palestinians in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip organizing phone banks on behalf of Obama.

Perhaps all of this is because Barack Obama, alone among recent American presidential candidates, pledged at the YouTube debate to hold face-to-face summits with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

If you think of Hamas as bad guys — then you're left wondering why the bad guys, whose loathing of the current president is clear (and a point of pride), are so eager to see President Obama.

The press does not like this question, does not like this issue, cannot understand why anyone would care, and will do everything they can to declare it an illegitimate issue.

    The American people may disagree.

    Bill Sheheen

    Andrew Cuomo

Hamas-or any other terrorist group, rouge state, etc-didn't come out and endorse Bush, though.

In fact, before Obama, has something like this EVER happened?

Anon raises a legitimate point. Why is Hamas so eager for Obama to become president? Is it because they know he will give them a voice?

If that's the case, will Obama's meeting with Hamas turn into propaganda for them? And also, will any benefit of meeting Hamas outweight the effects of doing a policy of not negotiating with terrorists that's stood for some 20 years?

LOOK WHO'S DRILLING: Petrobras Hires 80% of Deepwater Rigs, Inflates Rents.

Petroleo Brasileiro SA, Brazil's state-controlled oil company, leased about 80 percent of the world's deepest-drilling offshore rigs to explore prospects including the Western Hemisphere's biggest discovery in decades.

Petrobras, as the Rio de Janeiro-based company is known, is hiring rigs that can drill in at least 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) of water, Chief Executive Officer Jose Sergio Gabrielli said in an interview last week. The world has 21 such vessels, according to Rigzone.com, which tracks the offshore drilling industry.

The company's ``insatiable'' demand is forcing producers including Exxon Mobil Corp. and BP Plc to pay more as they compete for the remaining units, said Kjell Erik Eilertsen and Truls Olsen, analysts at Fearnley Fonds AS in Oslo. Explorers that don't have rigs under contract may delay projects or pay rents of more than $600,000 a day.

Sounds like they're onto something. And maybe we need to be doing more drilling at home? Hell, thanks to Congress we can't even get shale oil going.

There have been reports that the radio interview in which Hamas endorsed Obama never even happened.

That said, I'm not so sure what the big deal is. Palestinians are people with aspirations just like Iraqis, Swedes, and Americans. If the Palestinian people are rooting for Obama, there is nothing sinister or dangerous in that desire.

    ::

Seems John McCain wasn't also so full of bluster when it came to Hamas and the Palestinian people.

    McCain on Hamas in 2006

What caused the flip flop? Political expediency? A Hamas attack against the US since 2006? Losing his bearings?

It's one thing to evolved as a politician and change your views when you get more information. It's another to just do an about-face with no evolution.

I see he also had to fire another campaign staffer who worked for a 527. That's the second in a few weeks. The other had ties to Hezbolleh.

I think the MSM will have to get over its love affair with McCain and start asking him some tough questions.

He makes Mitt Romney look like a man of principle.
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
And for the record, Obama has stated that he will not meet with Hamas unless they denounce terrorism and recognize Israel.

But if progress in Middle Eastern peace is going to be made, well, see the McCain YouTube linked above.

The Tennessee GOP attacked Michelle O in a tired ad for her proud remarks.

    Obama's campaign fired back immediately:

"This is a shameful attempt to attack a woman who has repeatedly said she wouldn't be here without the opportunities and blessings of this nation. The Republican Party's pathetic attempts to use the same smear tactics to win elections have failed in Mississippi, failed in Louisiana, and will fail in November because the American people are looking for a positive vision of real change. And if the Tennessee Republican Party has a problem with Senator Obama, maybe next time they'll have the courage to address him directly instead of attacking his family."

    That's what I'm talkin bout.

I'm sure the MSM will get over their love affair with McCain, too.

Just around the same time some elements of the MSM get over theirs with Obama.

    We'll see which happens first.

We're not talking about an endorsement from the people of Palestine. We're talking about an endorsement from an organization who is on the State Department's list of terrorist organizations.

And if Michelle didn't make comments like that, the TN GOP wouldn't have to go after her. When you open your mouth to make a statement along that line, you'd better be prepared to deal with the criticism that comes with it.

    Regarding the Sexism Dogde editorial:

I believe the Clinton campaign has been using the sexism card even before Iowa. I think there was a debate last year where the moderators all piled on Clinton for evading questions, and her trusty road dawg Geraldine Ferraro came out and claimed that they would never pile on Obama like that, and the moderators were sexist.

But if Obama had complained that the moderators at the ABC debate had piled on him because he was black, he would have been roasted up one side and BBQ'd down the other.

Clinton ran a shitty, racist, negative campaign. She and her people did not think ahead. They did not plan properly. They wasted money. This is why she lost, not because of sexism.

The following excerpt is from a story by Liz Hollaran of US News & Reports about the women of Iowa who support Clinton. I love Ms. Kolmer's response.

They are contemplating Clinton's end game, especially now that former presidential candidate John Edwards, the second-place finisher in Iowa's caucuses, has endorsed Obama. "She needs to go through this in a magnanimous, gracious way," says Kolmer, who when asked if she'll vote for Obama replied: "Hell, yes."

I just went to the Hillary website and they have a link asking supporters to send messages to the DNC to count MI & FL. So, I clicked on the link to give my two cents:

Florida and Michigan should not count in any way that would reward the state legislature for breaking the rules.

They should not count in any way that would de-fraud the millions of voters who did not go out to vote, because they were assured it was not a valid election.'

FL & MI should not count in any way that usurps the DNC's authority and makes it impossible for the DNC to enforce the rules in the future.

They should not count in any way that drastically alters the outcome of the Primaries to benefit one candidate over another. Nor should it count in any way that rewards Senator Clinton for breaking her written and verbal agreement that these elections would not count.

So, they require an email address - I faked one. Then when I clicked submit, it took me directly to a fundraising page...LOL. Hillary is a piece of work I tell ya.

    From CHUCK TODD:

*** Five big turning points: In the latest Atlantic Monthly, Josh Green profiles Obama’s record-breaking fundraising machine.

“[W]henever I think about the quarter billion dollars he has raised so far, the image that leaps to mind is Scrooge McDuck diving joyously into his piles of gold,” he writes.

But in our final installment of the big -- yet underappreciated -- turning points in the Obama-Clinton, we remind you about this: It was Clinton, not Obama, who had the fundraising edge heading into the 2008 contests.

At the end of last year, Clinton had nearly $38 million cash on hand. And although that amount included the $10 million transfer from her Senate campaign account, as well as lots of money that could only be used in the general election, it eclipsed Obama’s $18.6 in the bank.

But once we entered the New Year, the rest was history: Obama went on to raise a million (or more) a day, while Clinton, although still raising plenty of money, ran out of cash and is now more than $20 million in debt.

This turning point -- when Clinton went from money leader to being essentially broke -- can’t be overstated.

And it’s also worth noting that this is the second-straight cycle that the candidate who raised the most money heading into the nominating contests (Howard Dean won that honor in ’03) will probably not be the nominee.

rikyrah, Cafferty called Huckabee an "idiot" for his Obama assasination joke. Then Jeff Toobin protested and lectured Jack about calling Huck an idiot for what was little more than a bad joke in Toobin's mind.

After Jeff finished chastising Cafferty for calling Huck an idiot and Wolf was trying to move on, Cafferty interrupted and said Wolf let me say this another way because of a poor choice of words, then Cafferty says "Huckabee is an idiot". LOL

Cafferty repeated his original opinion and Toobin got pissier and Cafferty basically gives him his backside to kiss because Cafferty thinks there is no excuse for what Huckabee said.

Then Lou and Wolf said they agreed with Toobin that Huck is not an idiot for making a little joke.

It’s rather impressive to see a first-term senator chastise the President of the United States and the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party as if he were the headmaster and they the ones guilty of infractions unworthy of upperclassmen. Though I'd rather not call Sen. John McCain out of his name, this kind of blatant lying is McLame:

"Sen. Obama has said that he will withdraw no matter what the situation is on the ground and no matter what US military commanders advise."

That, "my friends", is Johnnie's Budlight moment. BS like that should only be dignified by: DUDE (rolleyes)

But, since there are legions of Kevin James in the world, I guess the best approach is to come up with snazzy YouTube with "DUDE" mixed in with Johnnie's lie and Obama's stump-line scratched in:

As Careful Getting Out, As We Were Careless Getting In

Funny thing about it, Obama used that line on CNN in the very same segment where he said McCain was "losing his bearing."

Bush should take note, too. In this same segment, Obama answered Wolf Blitzer's question, "What does Israel mean to you?"
