Jack and Jill Politics: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Charged With Perjury

  • Webb · 1 year ago
All that I can say is...

    "Don't count Kwame out yet!"

For us Boondocks fans, we are about to see the "live-action" version of that cartoon (Trial of R. Kelly) play out in Detroit. Where's Aaron McGruder when you need him???

If Kwame is judged by a jury of his peers, then it will not be "The Man" who hangs him...it will be a community hanging...which leads me to believe that Kwame will NOT be hung.

It's like Marion Barry getting caught smoking crack...and DC voters restoring him to office. Oh how we love second chances...redemption brings us closer to Christ.

For the record, i'm neutral about this situation and i'm proud that Shirley Franklin is my Obama-supporting Mayor here in the Great City of Atlanta.

    Webb,

Sadly, I agree with you. I believe Kwame will trot out ' The Man', and Black folks will go do that Not Guilty thing with him.

He would have cost a BROKE CITY - MILLIONS...

But, he'll play that ' The Man' card for all its worth.
  • Admiral Komack · 1 year ago
The Man didn't force him to send text messages either.
    HE'S TOAST:-(

He will be gone in six months!

"The first black president" survived impeachment for lying about an affair.

Why wouldn't Kilpatrick think he can survive this? Especially if he thinks a jury of his peers won't convict him of perjury?

    Just saying.

I haven't been paying any attention to this case until today and don't know anything about Kilpatrick, so I won't be surprised by any outcome.
  • Ronnie B · 1 year ago
Regardless of the outcome, Mayor Kilpatrick doesn't seem to be able to step back and see a larger picture. His city is broke; education is triflingly bad; and jobs are rare.

And now he's been indicted for perjury!?!? This is the point where a wise person realizes that their city and state deserve more.
  • Nita · 1 year ago
@webb, oh lord! that r.kelly trial cartoon was a trip and a half! required viewing indeed.

@ronnieb, why was he even asked about his affair in the first place? what does that have to do with his leading the city? did he steal from the city for his lover? i'm as uncomfortable with this as with what went down with the Clintons back in the 90s... it just feels wrong that *this* has to be the thing that brings a fool down. This is not like Spitzer at all. Kilpatrick shouldn't hav lied.

@rikyrah, This has absolutely NOTHING to do with ' The Man'. ' The Man' didn't force him to cheat on his wife. ' The Man' didn't make him use government-issued property to carry on said affair. ' The Man' didn't force him to commit perjury. He did this all on his own. But, make sure of this.. ' The Man' will surely hang him with the rope that Mayor Kilpatrick has provided.

    Amen.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
You know, they probably wouldn't have charged him if he'd stepped down. Now, all his carrying-on is going to be public record and he might be convicted. He already got the community fired up with the idea he's being "lyched", which is a distress call for everyone to rally round and protect him.

I hope he doesn't get away with it. I don't want to see any more footage of him being run right before footage of Obama.

and all i can say is SHIIIIIIIIIIIT

this is looking like a clay davis situation

i just found out about Kwame's triflinness last weekend. dead strippers and THOUSANDS of text messages. then firing that dude for investigating. we need to get him out of the headlines FAST

    1) He has brought money to Detroit. Superbowl (although how sad was that, the faking up of the vacants for the Bowl?). More casinos. I know but still, it's money and conventions. Comcast Corporate Headquarters with some folks moving into newly refurbished lofts, etc. Fox Theatre. The new Tiger Stadium is NICE, seriously.

Now, I know all about how there's nowhere for the tourists to go outside of the one square mile of redone downtown. And I can't recall exactly how much but I think it was something like 50 million in fed dollars that he got for all the busyness.

The man has skill and charisma and everything required to do his job WELL. It's a dirty shame he couldn't keep the rest of it out, for whatever reason. Youth, arrogance, entitlement, whatever but he laid the trap for himself and now it's just mortifying to see him behave the way he has been.

I honestly won't be suprised if he manages to whip up enough opposition, based on throwing down the race card FOR REAL combined with his actual skills. It's a pretty potent combo and it worked for him in the last election so he has every reason to think it will this time too.

Poor Detroit. They deserve SO MUCH BETTER than what they've gotten.

Like Spitzer, Kilpatrick broke the law.

He and Beatty lied under oath in a police/whistleblower lawsuit against the city by the ex-police chief that cost the city of Detroit $9 MILLION!

The affair was not the only thing they lied about.

Watching the press conference of the Wayne County Prosecutor - it's a Sista. She's out for Kwame's blood. She cracked me up several times during her conference - Kym Worthy is her name.

It's not about their affair; it's about the COVER UP.

It's also about OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE.

The Man didn't force Kwame to fire his police chief; a smart guy would have gotten the Po-Po on his side to keep this crap covered up.

Never lie to the guvermint, and never piss off Law Enforcement; that comes back to bite you in the butt, and they know how to come back on you, too. Especially if you obstructed during a WHISTLE-BLOWING investigation, where the first rule of law is to protect the whistleblower from retaliation.

I thought Kwame was a lawyer - he should have known that you don't retaliate because that's clear implication of wrongdoing, right there.

    Fool.

And the DA is a sista, too? Shooot, he should sit down and deal; Beatty, as well; she has two boys; but I'm thinking if she goes to jail, her husband will get his sons, and even if she doesn't, if he's a stand up brotha, he's going to sue for custody, anyway. Was screwing Kwame worth it?

Their main question should be "What can I do to avoid JAIL?"

And Kwame needs to be thinking how he's going to make a living and paying Carlita that fat divorce settlement she's going to be asking for.

His lawyer should be asking, "So how much should we make out the check?"
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
Kwame hired Dan Webb. Webb is no joke.
  • The Christian Progressive Libe · 1 year ago
I don't know, Rikyrah; a smart lawyer would have had Kwame cut a deal by now, especially when it became known that someone other than he and Beatty had access and found those emails...all 14,000 of them.

They must have been having cyber sex to do that much texting...
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    CPL,

Kwame's way to drunk with his own power to be 'cutting deals'. I don't believe for one minute that he's up for cutting a deal. His arrogant self is going down all the way.

I agree he probably will stay in and prove to be on the sorriest Black mayors that ever was - even more so than Marion Crackberry.

Being from DC, I can attest to how sad and unfortunate DC was when Marion was immersed in that WMD. Rampant unemployment during a time of surplus in the country. Next level drug trade and murder (all quadrants except upper NW). Open air prostitution (14th & O Streets NW).

The B**** didn't set Marion up. He set a lot of Black people up. They were going on his past works and didn't see the full picture. I admit I was blinded for a second since he was able to find some jobs for teens during the early 90's which led to a slight decrease in crime.

But make no mistake, DC was better off when he was no longer mayor. It's too bad that Kwame cannot learn from the past b/c he is already repeating it and in the interim, zipping his pants down and peeing on the heads of Detroit citizens. He has go to go.

    Drunk with power.

    Will Sober up in Jail.

If he's that drunk on power, he should probably learn how to sober up to deal with keeping Ray-Ray, Biscuit and Skillet off that arse, tossing salads in the joint...
