And by the way...I am providing housing for two Obama staffers and I can’t tell you how much I am impressed by them. They are out of the house early in the am and rarely get back by 2.am. They stay behind and input the data a lot of volunteers gather. They are polite and dedicated.......I feel privileged to be able to help the Obama campaign in this way.
This is the most exciting election ever for me........I will not accept less than Obama for president from the Democractic party.
Another thing...I don't have statistics...but, alot of the people I see volunteering in Lexington, KY, are white!
The second one almost made me throw up.
Hillary Rodham Nixon knew exactly what she was doing.
Exactly.
I knew you had doubts about how sincere Obama was about Kentucky.
I was wondering if you saw this, but it links up to the post I did about Obama and Evangelicals from a few days ago.
I got this link off of HuffingtonPost.com.
This is going out in Kentucky -I got the entire brochure over at a conservative's site, along with this conservative's story of how it went when he went to one of Obama's Kentucky offices. This guy could see it, plain as day - Obama's going for the evangelicals.
Obama IS making an investment in Kentucky; I believe he's setting himself up for the General Election, but doesn't want to raise the expectations game. But, if he thought Kentucky was such a lost cause, he wouldn't have opened as many offices as he has.
I knew you were concerned that Kentucky would be overlooked; I hope this reassures you that Obama is serious about Kentucky, but he has to keep it underwraps, I believe, as to not let Hillpatine have anymore positive headlines. If she's expected to win huge in Kentucky, then if he closes the gap some, THAT will be the story out that night.
Replace a few phrases, change a few words there and this sounds just like something in a 1920 Mississippi newspaper. Please please, don't be a hatemonger like them. This post was a disgusting insult to the tens of thousands of African American and other minorities who do life in Appalachia. If this kind of post doesn't stop, you will find yourself with one less Appalachian reader.
Borg Queen, is a fitting metaphor. Hillary seen as queen bee in a hive-like political culture.
I don't find it too much.
I'm sorry if you feel that my post unfairly attacked people in Appalachia - however, the facts themselves have not changed. What my post attempted to do was to demonstrate how Hillary Clinton has now begun to rely on the very people she has denigrated or ignored for years; she turned the entire primary contest into a racial hate-fest, and I refuse to sugar-coat what she has done.
If you've read any of my comments or posts on other blogs, you will learn that I'm very ambivalent about Barack Obama, but I cannot deny he has ran a campaign that has been dignified, respectful and very much above the gutter. Even when he could have gone there when Hillary started her attacks, he has not done so, and I have to fully respect how he has conducted himself during the campaign season.
If Obama won West Virginia, Hillary would have spun this as a state of no consequence. You live in Appalachia from what your post indicates; how would you feel if Obama won your state and you had to listen to Hillary spin it as a state of No Consequence?
And the fact that a poll taken there, not to mention polls in places like Pennsylvania, basically indicates that people in those regions, outside of urban areas like Philly or Pittsburgh, Memphis, and maybe Charleston, overwhelmingly indicated that they are not going to vote for Obama, and the only reason they give is Obama's ethnicity?
What the hell are most readers on this blog as well as others, are to deduct from that?
It is easy to say that these individuals represent a "few bad apples", but the reality is that those "few" can add up to a "majority" that indicates an inherent unwillingness to come into the 21st century and become more tolerant and acceptant.
I am a proud African-American woman and I make no apologies for my post. If, as you say, I've insulted Black folk in Appalachia, then tell me, if you guys supported Obama, what you did to help him get more than 25% of the vote in your region?
Where have I been insulting? By pointing out where Hillary has to get her votes, and who or what they represent? She played the race card here, and the only conclusion that can be drawn is that white racists, (which is the majority population, I believe)fell for it and rewarded her race-baiting.
I'm tired of trying to be nice and explain things. I can say I'm not racist until Kingdom come, and there will be individuals so sensitive and wanting to sing "Kuumbayaah" because I point out differences that make people uncomfortable. It is never going to be comfortable when having honest discussions or observations about race relations in this country - though we never stop working for it. I am at a point where sugar-coating messages often mean those messages are going to be ignored, and I can no longer tolerate that.
Blogs gives opinions of the writers, and sometimes, you may not agree with them, but that is no reason to stop visiting a blog unless you're looking for a reason to stop visiting.
keith o. had clips of her brian williams interview last night. worst clinton surrogate? none compare to clinton herself. she always gets me angry.
Well stated. And you shouldn't have to tip-toe around people's racism and bigotry. Yes, shamefully Barack is required to ignore this racism and bigotry in order to win the battle -- and it seems that some people have become spoiled by that -- but us rank and file supporters can, will and should call it as we see it.
I saw nothing in your post that was insulting toward Black Appalachians. If anything, I find it insulting that of those "tens of thousands" of Black Appalachians, few if any found it necessary to take a public stand against Clinton's blatant race-baiting and racialized pandering.
Using race. Hillary in WV.
Using religion. Obama in KY.
Hillary=politician=panderer
Obama=politician=panderer
McCain=politician=panderer
Get over yourselves and quit smearing anyone who does not support Obama as racist.
for me agressive actions or comments based on stereotypes are what classify as racist. like right now i am feeling pretty disgusted with appalachia and am stereotyping it's people. probably not good. probably racist.
