Reduces the campaign into a fad or a fashion statement, like "Vote or Die" did with our most basic civic duty. The same could be said for those "Barack The Vote" shirts too. I'd probably be less miffed if these fad campaigns were supporting progressive causes, but I highly doubt they're doing much more than lining someone's pockets.

Re: DNC 08: Senator McCain vs. Candidate McCain

Ain't that the truth.

Kerry stepped up and laid it down like he meant business.

Re: DNC 08: Senator McCain vs. Candidate McCain

Kerry kicked serious ass last night. if THIS Kerry had shown up 4 years ago, he'd be President.

Re: DNC 08: Senator McCain vs. Candidate McCain

Kerry was the only one of the speakers last night to go there. Both the Clintons praised McCain, offered a contrast, but didn't expose the flip flops, the lies, or the dirty tactics. Bill Clinton went further by stating how non-partisan John McCain is and how he frequently bucks his party. John McCain has voted with GW Bush 95% of the time, is Bill unaware of that fact? McCain is treated with kid gloves by most Washington insiders and certainly by the press. Tom Brokaw said that McCain could not be criticized by Clinton because when he was a POW, Clinton was back home dodging the draft. The media is going to continue the McCain as maverick and reluctant hero meme as long as the Dems remain passive on this issue. I thought Tammie Duckworth and John Kerry hit it out the park and pointed out the hypocritical and anti-veteran stances that McCain has historically taken. If the Republicans are going to undercut Obama's strengths then the Dems need to hit McCain with the same ferocity. And for me, Kerry was the only one of the speakers to do it.

Re: DNC 08: Senator McCain vs. Candidate McCain

I definitely appreciated Kerry coming in and putting the issues on blast. Kerry has always been under-rated in my book. From what I saw him doing on the campaign trail for Obama, I knew Kerry was going to come out and knock this one out of the park.

The Senator v. Candidate contrast would make a great ad in the next few weeks. It is to the point and very revealing. I especially loved the part where he said "Talk about being for it before you're against it" or something of that nature.

As far as how it fared compared to Biden's...I must begrudgingly (because I am trying to encourage Ticket Unity) admit that Biden's speech was a bit lackluster in comparison. However, I understood why they might have felt that he had to be toned down. He is known for being foot-in-mouth susceptible (remember, that’s why most of us weren’t feeling him in the first place), and they were getting a lot of flak because of that. The main reason I can take him is because I know he will not hesitate to "check" anyone who tries to vilify Obama. So when that did not come out last night I was a bit let down. But there is still time. I am willing to wait until the debates to determine if he will allow himself to unleash his (much needed) defense AND offense on behalf of the Democrats against the Repugnantcan Party.

Re: DNC 08: Senator McCain vs. Candidate McCain

This is how the meme of elist hangs around. Obama argues like it was debate class. In high school no one except the principal liked them.
Biden has to be the attack dog on go after McCain. Much of what happened forty years ago during the cold War is not applicaable now.

Re: DNC 08: Senator McCain vs. Candidate McCain

One of my blog commentators posted this. Note the instructive last sentence, b/c it's right on. I blame McCain for selling out to this:

It was good to see this tied together. My neighbor (a city councilman) is in Denver and said bth Hillary's and Bill's addresses electrified the hall. I am not so sure this stadium thing is a good idea, but Obama seems to be all about a new way, so I am not surprised. Next week is the real Nuremburg Rally, complete with invective, lies and plenty of flags.

Re: DNC 08: Senator McCain vs. Candidate McCain

* Off topic * Is anyone else having issues accessing the comment section for most of the post? Unfortunately due to his monotonic orator skills a lot of ppl might miss this great message!

Thanks for sharing.
