I'll concede the point.

Yes, FISA could be used to monitor the communications of ordinary citizens. Because the FISA court's proceedings are held in secret, we will never know if that's how it was used or not.

You all are well within your rights to be upset.

Re: FISA and Wiretapping: COINTELPRO Back in Fashion

junglecat, you're correct. D is being deliberately obtuse, likely a bored government employee feeding at the public trough, while decrying liberal political values.

that last comment does it for me: "when you show me some evidence . . . "

so utterly absurd and, as i said, deliberately obtuse. that is what the whole fucking fight is about. they will NEVER have to show evidence if this bill passes. that is the point.

goodbye y'all. it's been real. take care of yourselves.

Re: FISA and Wiretapping: COINTELPRO Back in Fashion

You folks trying to have this debate with D are delightfully optimistic. D, like most people in this country do not understand the reason why the constitution was created nor the concept of checks and balances. I do not really blame D or people like him. I blame the educational system. I blame a society that seems to take so much for granted. I blame the corruption of our political leaders who have sold us out for pennies on the dollars. Remember, the Roman empire fell because of corruption within, not because of the "barbarians" without.

Junglecat,

Re: FISA and Wiretapping: COINTELPRO Back in Fashion

Ms. Martin,
But yet no one can show evidence that FISA is being used in that manner.

When I see that, I'll cry foul.

Re: FISA and Wiretapping: COINTELPRO Back in Fashion

D

"But that's not what we're talking about, is it? There have always been inroads for gov't officials to get around things when they want to do something. The difference now is that it's more obvious. I still see it as a natural progression in response to what has been happening in this country the past 30 years. Historically every world power implodes on itself and the time for the USA is coming.

Re: FISA and Wiretapping: COINTELPRO Back in Fashion

Anon,
And Bush did something about it.

What did Clinton do?
