CPL -- the CBC Monitor rocks. Period. I agree that with this committee lineup, Harold will earn his pay if he is really able to make a dent.

Not sure I agree with you that ML is not quite conscious of the makeup of the cmte and eager to have an ambassador with an important subsegment. I do agree with you though -- Ford's new gig is par for the course for white politicians who frequently cash in for plum corporate lobbying spots after serving the people in Congress. Is it a form of progress that black politicians are now able to do the same...

Jill, I generally find your work interesting, but you usually check your facts better than that. Gwen Moore and Julia Carson are both proud members of the CBC. Also, Ford was not always the most popular CBC member, and it's a very big step to assume that ML is hiring Ford because he's black and has CBC contacts. They hired him because he was a prominent Congressman, and has contacts all over the Hill, and on both sides of the aisle. While I find it a bit distasteful, it's no different than what so many white politicians do after serving, and not nearly as bad as Billy Tauzin writing the Medicare Part D bill and then heading PHARMA. Hope to see better from you in the future.

We CBC Monitor members plan to hang the asses of any coporate-friendly CBC members on this committee. My thinking is anyone on the Democrat side of this committee starts showing too much favoritism to Merrill Lynch, Barney Frank will isolate them and their vote, and make the rest of us get in their face with "How the hell could you vote like that?"

But, Jill:

Merrill Lynch is making the same mistake that the Corporate Media is making regarding African-Americans.

They think we are a monolithic group and we're not. That's why they're excited to pay Harold all that cheddar.

Until they find out he can't deliver. Remember, I produce that CBC Report Card twice a year and you know how poorly Ford scored on it. He tore his behind with many of those members you listed, and if he does get an inroads, it will be with someone who can most likely demand he get them on the ML board when their time is up on the Hill.

Harold's getting a boatload of money, but, God, is he going to have to deliver or else we'll be reading about corporate differences as the reason Harold's no longer on their payroll within a matter of months.
