Jack and Jill Politics: Hillary BLACKENS UP Obama in Ad?

  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Are you kidding me? You folks have gone off the deep end!

I'd be more worried about Obama's poor performance at a press conference last night re: the NAFTA controversy and Rezko.

Crying wolf?...soon no one will listen.
  • D. · 1 year ago
Concur in part with anonymous. This is miniscule. 90% of the world is not going to notice or, more importantly, care.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
What's your explanation for the obvious doctoring of the colour levels and contrast in the film?
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
    @ d.

You can't be that naive. Advertising is subliminal. It is not what people will notice consciously...it is what people who are latently uncomfortable with race will subconsciously respond to.

...as is the assertion that Obama supporters are "delusional", crazy, paranoid etc.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
With regard to Obama's stunning success..there are forces at work there that cannot be denied. There is no amount of action, effort, dirt that will make Hillary Clinton the winner.

Even if she wins she will lose. If she claws her way to the White House, it will end in disaster and disgrace for her and she will carry America down with her as it is characteristic of her to do. If McCain wins, there almost surely will be continued war and a draft...America still loses.

Her new enemy is America, she hates it for rejecting her sordid aspirations.
  • Ronnie B · 1 year ago
truthseeker, you have to understand something about d.

A smiling guy walking toward you with a noose isn't a "big deal" ...

    True enemies of America

These are the people you should be afraid of...your fellow Americans who don't want you to know the truth. They lie, twist the truth, create division between racial groups, use fear and subliminal messaging to control your choices. This is the true terrorism and it's done by your countrymen. It's not the Communists or militant Muslims doing this..it's Americans doing this to Americans.

These enemies of America do not appeal to the best within you, they appeal to your worst fears and prejudices. If they are allowed to continue unchecked, they will destroy America.

I really hope this democratic nomination fight ends tonight. By this time tomorrow morning, I hope everyone is talking about Hillary's gracious concession speech.
  • D. · 1 year ago
    Truth,
...and they're the remaining 10%. My personal is that this does border on paranoia.

(and this may get me in trouble, but....)Hell, it's not like they darkened the photo to make him extremely dark. Your average individual is not going to notice the difference when this shows up on TV.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
She will never concede. Her strategy has changed. Her intention is to damage Obama and the democratic party - If that favours the Republicans, then so be it. If Barack is nominated and loses the general then it will be "I told you so" and possibly a win for her 4 to 8 years later. If he wins she will continue to undermine him.

This woman is destructive, self destructive, enabling, damaging, and quite possibly, insane. If the passive Democrats do not act decisively to deal with her, there will be hell to pay.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
    @ d.

I already explained it's not what you notice consciously. The will not notice consciously unless they have the original footage side by side. What may happen, is that people who have racist tendencies MAY find themselves increasingly uncomfortable with Obama.

The dimwitted Clinton camp is using everything it can think of to disparage him.
  • D. · 1 year ago
The people who have racist tendencies are already uncomfortable with Obama. This isn't going to affect them one way or the other.

Anonymous makes a point above that I'm sure will soon get dropped from this discussion: at what point does the constant "crying foul" become detrimental? When does making noise over every percieved slight start putting people off?

My personal: if you really want to squash stuff like this, don't dignify it with a response. Some things you just laugh at and move on from.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
I'm the most radical pro-black person I know, and you know what, I am not pissed by this. The deliberate darkening of the video is called out even more by the ridiculous spotlight treatment on the text. I think it's actually a pretty popular technique used in commercials usually containing ominous music, too. Only it generally goes unnoticed for lighter skinned candidates. Plus, if she ran this in Texas.. she wouldn't have to reach far for the hatred. Ha.

I think Obama's taken some hits recently, I'd be surprised if he pulls through and I say that as a BHO supporter. I think for a lot of people they're done playing fair (giving the black guy a chance), and they want to get down to business. I mean, as much as people hate Hillary Clinton, I'm seeing that at least a quarter of that hatred manifests in their hatred of Obama, especially the willingness to believe just about anything negative about him.

Did you guys see this? People are reading this before they go to the polls this morning and the guy is accused of being *gasp* a politician http://www.houstonpress.com/2008-02-28/news/bar.... It's enough to make you forget that Hillary Clinton probably should have been charged with perjury.

I wonder what we will do once we realize we have no party.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
I think you're wrong...they are people who like his message buy cannot quite overcome their sublimated discomfort with his "difference". These people are smart enough to know it's not cool to be racist so they look for excuses to reject him...and Hillary is right there to provide those excuses AND to plant more seeds of discomfort.

Who is crying foul? The Obama campaign is not whining. It is Hillary herself who constantly complains...her people complain too. Has that put people off? I would say yes, it has.
  • D. · 1 year ago
Isn't this whole article about crying foul? The only difference between the whining of the campaigns is who's doing it. In Clinton's case, it's her; in Obama's, his supporters. Either way, it's a negative.

If anything, it throws Obama under the bus for the general election. Whether or not it affects in him the primaries....we'll see, but my personal is that more minds are made up than not, as far as tonight goes.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
Hillary's supporters are not whining?...don't make me laugh.

at what point does the constant "crying foul" become detrimental? When does making noise over every percieved slight start putting people off?

now. but i am more disturbed by this nafta crap.
  • Rita · 1 year ago
By the way, where is your post about Obama saying no, he didn't talk to anyone in Canada about NAFTA, then Oops! guess we did?

    Did I miss that somewhere?

I will vote for him if he is the nominee. But this is what has bothered me about him from the beginning: he comes in talking conciliation and working across the aisles and all of that mess, which naturally means sucking up to the big business interests of the republican party. That's what they're about, if he's working WITH them, he's working FOR their corporate puppetmasters. So he's telling the American people that he's going to revisit NAFTA and telling Canada that that promise is just political posturing?

    Fuck that.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Wouldn't put anything past Clinton especially after the "he's not muslim...as far as I know" moment.
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
I urge people to get the facts about NAFTA before calling Obama's integrity into question.

I must say, though, that the entire situation and the way the Clinton campaign has capitalized on it by repeating a lie that isn't true and the way that Obama has responded to it will cost him Ohio for sure, if not Texas. He was riding his momentum and then his economic adviser did something really stupid that the Canadian government, for its own self-serving reasons, leaked falsely to the media.

That's the momentum stopper. How he and his campaign respond moving forward will tell the tale of how Obama can handle being attacked with lies and whether or not he can hold serve till Clinton does something stupid again.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
I think that ad clearly was intentionally darkened and that the campaign knew they could get away with it precisely because negative political ads often show "dark or distorted" pictures of candidates. The fact that it would work subliminally was just a bonus.

I'm also writing with Wonderful News!

Today on MSNBC, Tom Brokaw said that 50 extra superdelegates are ready to declare for Barack!!!

    http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/index.html

This thing IS going to end. Barack WILL be the nominee. The Democratic Party is NOT going to let that woman steal the nomination.

Please call all your friends in primary states & get them fired up & ready to go!
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
I am in Houston and this ad is a nonissue, didn't even notice the subliminal color change. I would hazard a guess that only in our own colorstruck factions of the Black community would this get noticed. The same people who laugh at Tom Joyner and co. pitting light skinned against dark skinned Blacks. But I digress. I'm going to the polls today, twice. Taking my 64 year old aunt who has never voted. Great day. For the primaries anyway, he'll still have to work for my vote in the general election. So far as the constant race baiting on here, please lighten up, no pun intended.

  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
I think the article in the Houston Press could be more damaging than the ad, but is it a reputable outlet?

The article seems very National Enquirer, but what I don't know about Texas could fill, well... Texas.
  • ultramagnetic · 1 year ago
CNN did a story a month or so ago about attack ads. And one of the guys who creates them said darkening images of the target or removing color is a standard practice to make the target look more ominous. Note the fading to black at the edges of the frame to enhance the effect.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
are you kidding me? he doesn't look blacker....he looks less black and more gray if anything.

ok. we get it. u guys hate hillary and want obama to win. but this posting is ridiculous.

-John Kerry used the above strategy.

Kerry lost for reasons much bigger than stunts like this.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
I think it's a non-issue and I'm a BHO supporter. The bigger story is her lie about the subcommittee.

BTW, Rita....Did you know that CTV report that first reported about Obama and Canada also said Clinton's campaign people met with the Canadian govn't to calm them down?

"The CTV exclusive also reported that sources said the Clinton campaign has made indirect contact with the Canadian government, trying to reassure Ottawa of their support despite Clinton's words. The Clinton camp denied the claim. The story caught the attention of Republican front-runner John McCain on Thursday."

Jonathan Alter and many other journalists have written that no matter if Billary "wins" all the remaining contests she still loses. The delegate math wont work for her. I believe she will try to seat the MI/FL delegates.

I think she's staying in to help McCain. After the Democrat convention - especially with the delegate fighting - the Billary will do everything to make Obama lose.

Becoming President is a fight from day one. The attacks wont stop (until he leaves office), so they have to be instantly refuted.

I am so sick of HRC, that in a way I hope she does get the nominatin, just so I can vote against her, along with the other millons who loathe her. her race baiting is making the Bush family seem like supporting memebers of the NAACP.
  • Baltogeek · 1 year ago
I'm not stunned by this anymore. I expect this kind of racist trash from her now.

My question is how does she suppose she will get blacks to vote for her if she takes the nomination?

I know her campaign isn't good at crafting strategies for the future but this is ridiculous.
  • Admiral Komack · 1 year ago
"My question is how does she suppose she will get blacks to vote for her if she takes the nomination?"

    -Answer: She doesn't.

    She'll go "Republican-lite"...and lose.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
    Admiral,

She'll ask Obama to be her VP...and he'll accept.
  • Faith · 1 year ago
I'm not voting for her no matter what. If she swift-boats Obama I'm hoping Nader will be on enough ballots and he'll get my vote. I'm watching her speech right now and she is slick. And I can't help but notice her supporters chanting yes we can. Obama needs to get tough now or he's going down.
  • Admiral Komack · 1 year ago
    "Admiral,"

"She'll ask Obama to be her VP...and he'll accept."

    -I don't think so.

If he does, he's a fool.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
I agree...he would taint himself irreparably if he's her running mate. Everything she touches turns to shit

Great post on Clinton vs Obama's record:

"She'll ask Obama to be her VP...and he'll accept"
    -----------------------------------

    No he won't!

Remember when both were asked about being on a dream ticket during one of the debates? Well, the next day, Obama stated that if Hillary was to be the nominee---she may not get his voters but he may get hers if he was to become the nominee! Doesn't sound like a VP candidate to me!!
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
    Faith said...

"I'm watching her speech right now and she is slick."

    ::

    Yes. She is.

My problem with tonight is that voters in Ohio (especially) and Texas told us that fear and negativity still trump hope and positivity.

Hillary will take that, run with it, and turn this into the nastiest campaign in my lifetime.

I can already feel the balloon deflating.

This isn't going to turn out good for the country.

Many of us will crawl back under our rocks of apathy and disillusionment our country will suffer another stretch of dread and divisiveness and the world will continue to hate us.

If Obama is going to hold on, he will have to continue to drive home his new message "The world is watching" and restoring pride in being American.
  • B-Serious · 1 year ago
I assume that this blog will post about the primaries from tonight. I offer this in advance.

I anticipated this on my blog:

    http://reachblack.blogspot.com/2008/03/remember-what-about-math.html

If you find yourself in a debate with a Clinton supporter. If you find yourself disoriented because of all of the Clinton spin. Just stop . . . take a deep breath . . . and ask . . .

    WHAT ABOUT THE MATH?

It's as simple as that folks. Ask that question and DEMAND that they give you a plausible game plan wherein Hillary can comeback and take the delegate lead without:

    1. Seating the MI and FL delegates after the DNC specifically said that they would not count; and

    2. Using super delegates to reverse the will of the people.

If they can't do that, then DEMAND that they tell you EXACTLY why Hillary Clinton should stay in the race knowing that every attack she makes from here forward will do no more than add ammunition for the Republican party.

Beware! You will be called a "hater." You will be called arrogant. Don't be swayed. At the end of the theatrics and philosophical talk about "swing states," and "big states," just ask, "WHAT ABOUT THE MATH?"

And if someone should create some outlandish (although mathematically possible) scenario. Get it in writing. Send it to every news outlet you know. And DEMAND that the media hold her to that standard!

    Stop moving the goal posts!
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Some people are going off into the deep end and I find it rather sad. He is AHEAD with delegates. WTH is wrong with everyone? People acting as if he lost the entire thing. Why not write the end speech for him? God, people loss one freaking day and already singling defeat. "He will be her VP"

Wake the hell up! He is winning.
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
Hillary Clinton has the Democratic party machine at her disposal. Save a miracle, Obama can't win a state with a closed Democratic primary. The machine is too powerful.

If she finishes within 100 pledged delegates, she will win the nomination.

    The math simply won't matter.

    Just watch.
  • Cyndi · 1 year ago
Thank you for that last post. Noting the fact that he is still winning, however, I feel like her "everything but the kitchen sink" method has knocked us in the head.

Question for everyone....should he fight back hard? Throw the plasma tv at her? Or should he try to continue to follow his "no politics as usual" method. This woman is fighting hard and is playing dirty by any means necessary. The very reason why I didn't get involved in politics.
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
Cyndi, Obama can't attack. He's already feared. Imagine if he metaphorically cut her throat and it would be easy to metaphorically cut her throat.

He'd have no chance of beating McCain in the general election. No chance at all.

Let's face it people, it's going to take a miracle for him to take the Oath of Office next year.

A miracle. I believe in mircales. Know we have to do our part to make them happen.

Clinton is fighting for herself and herself only. But she's slick enough to make voters believe she's in it for them. That's her talent. Like it or lump it, that's her talent.

You want empty rhetoric? Listen to the Clintons.

And they have the party machine. That cannot be underestimated.
  • Nita · 1 year ago
    @truthSeeker said...

She will never concede. Her strategy has changed. Her intention is to damage Obama and the democratic party - If that favours the Republicans, then so be it.

    I agree with you.

Now my question is, what is her supporters excuse?

"Question for everyone....should he fight back hard? Throw the plasma tv at her? Or should he try to continue to follow his "no politics as usual" method. This woman is fighting hard and is playing dirty by any means necessary."

Hmmm. Many a black men have been lynched for lesser aggression towards white women...aggression of a look in the eye was historically a death sentence for black men in America. We are not that far removed from the drag lynching of James Byrd more recently to the traditional lynching of my uncle in the mid 80's. She he get aggressive with the white damsel in distress... let me know how that works out because that is the exact bait she has been tossing day one.
  • Acanthus · 1 year ago
"Crying wolf?...soon no one will listen".

Classic American Renaissance meme, and a softer form of what the blogger The Unapologic Mexican call the "Carom Scarem". "soon no one will listen" means "soon there will be a race war".
