Personally, I nominate the creator of "Hot Ghetto Mess" for the Flava Flav Award.

And I also nominate Bob Johnson for creating a TV station that allows a televised version of "Hot Ghetto Mess" to be even thought about, let alone conceived and produced.

can't we please have a barbara jordan award? she has been my hero forever. . . . first black woman in congress and lesbian, a brilliant woman and an incredible orator. we lost her too, too early.

I resent the "Al Sharpton Award". Rev. Al usually gets a bad rap but he is always on the ground when someone who is no one needs help. Black people are embarrassed by Rev. Al because white people have made him the poster child in the war to get black people to stfu about racism and be thankful for not being shipped back to Africa. Too many blacks use Rev. Al to establish themselves as good kneegros to white people but it is usually a sign of their inner Tom.

The unfounded accusations of racism and sexism award would be more aptly titled "The Ferraro Award" because I can't think of one person whose every claim has been an outright lie (unlike the gratuitous aspersions cast against Rev. Al) aside from Geraldine. She has specifically named Obama for each of her claims of racism and sexism, yet it is Rev. Al who gets dissed on this blog. Don't hate a man for not living on his knees all the time just because most blacks are comfortable down there.

    Anon,

Well, Jack has coined a phrase involving racism in the thought process.

    It's called "Getting your 'Ferraro'On..."

Tim Wise is always saying unpleasant things about white people to white people.

Everytime anyone else tries it, the white people dismiss them. It is difficult to dismiss one of your own people for calling out white people on their inner racism, but I'm glad he's taking on the job. It's the only way maybe white people may actually listen because, as I've said, one of THEIR OWN is doing the talking.

Derrick Bell Jr. Award--For the person best demonstrating Bell's interest convergence theory that black folk only are allowed to get ahead when it serves the interests of the majority

bell hooks award--for calling out white feminists on their demand that race must be subordinated to gender, as if the two could be separated.

Angela Davis Award--For being as cool as Angela always has been and always will be. This one would only be given to Angela Davis.

Alan Keyes Award--For demonstrating that some black folk so full of self-hatred that they will go to any length to supplicate before a white audience.

Carlton Banks Award--Okay, so he's fictional, but I think we should give this one to Alan Keyes everytime he appears in the media. No offense to Alfonso Ribeiro.

Farrakhan Award--Reserved for someone twisting fact with any kind of xenophobia to justify bigotry

Oprah Award--Given to anyone who's actions reflect that they are so full of themselves that they could put out an eponymous magazine each month complete with picture of the same on the cover.

Charles Barkley Award--For FINALLY SPEAKING THE TRUTH. Barkley admitted in 2006 that conservatism is a "form of political discrimination" backing away from his years as a self-identified conservative.
