For purposes of clarification: isn't it true that neither Clinton OR Obama will have enough delegates-pledged or super-to win the nomination prior to the convention?
  • Jack Turner · 1 year ago
    D, that is basically true.

It's certainly true on pledged delegates. There are not enough left to go around for either to reach the magic number.

As for supers, if they start declaring en masse, they could lock up the nomination for one candidate or the other.

My larger point is that it's Obama who has the insurmountable lead, and to fight on despite no real chance of prevailing is ONLY destructive

WHY? Why is everyone so scared of the Clinton's? We all know if the situation were reversed they would force BO to drop out! Pelosi has made comments, Richardson by far has been the boldest (God help him. Hope he has beefed up security!)But where are the others? The so called elders? Come on, we need to end this!
  • cranky · 1 year ago
The only way Clinton can win now, is by encouraging the super delegates to overturn the popular and pledged vote.

The time has come. This is a nightmare scenario that will surely give the White House to the GOP. Sen. Clinton must KNOW this, and refusal to act, NOW, calls her loyalty to America and Democratic Principles into question.

I concure wholeheartedly with Jack's assessment... (as usual).

Thanks for doing what you do and being who you are.
  • Francis L. Holland Blog · 1 year ago
Thanks for your participation and collaboration, Baratunde, Jill . . . Like Obama said once, Hillary's a determined fighter and it's going to take a knock-out to get her out of the ring. That knock-out may well come from super-delegates, as they realize that party members like us simply are not going to co-sign Hillary's bull-crap - now or in November.

I'm going to say what I've learned over the past couple of days: Hillary Clinton has repeatedly told a bold-faced lie about her trip to Bosnia, inventing false dangers overseas to convince us that only she can protect us.

Who does that sound like? What other lies would Clinton tell in an effort to build political support for herself? What other lies would we discover only afterward to be complete fabrications for the purpose of manipulating the public?

I've learned some things about Hillary Clinton in the last three months that I never though I'd learn. The manipulative politics that I thought she'd only use against the Republicans are becoming the guns that she has turned against the most loyal members of her own party.

Unlike her husband's administration, Hillary doesn't seem to understand the difference between creative spin based on real facts that can be verified, versus absurd and embarrassing fabrications that anyone can disprove (Bosnia arrival) just by reading Hillary's own schedule or viewing the news footage. She done!

Hillary would make a good presidential candidate for the Republican Party, with her Willie Horton tactics and her lies that create foreign dangers (Bosnia tarmac) out of whole-cloth. (She might even join Lieberman now, and run as a (Republican) Independent at some time in the future, like Lieberman did when he was beaten for the Democratic nomination.) But Clinton can never and is never going to make a Democratic president of the United States.

    Stay classy Hillary!

"He would not have been my pastor," Clinton said. "You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend."...

The Clinton campaign has refrained from getting involved in the controversy, but Clinton herself, responding to a question, denounced what she said was "hate speech."

    CM,

    Classy?????????????????????

Hil"LIAR"y has been the queen of race baiting, playing on gender, lying and doing anything in her power to destroy the Democratic Party. You call that classy?!?!?!

So when Wright was fighting to save her husband's presidency he was OK now he's not. What a pathetic hypocrite!
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Were it anyone else running who had some class they would have already let it go for the sake of party unity, but, being that its THE HRC, she won't, and, is determined to help the GOP keep the WH now in every possible way she can. She is still peeved that she was not as beloved by the public as she thought she was and, that to her horror and her husband's, she is running second to a *gasp* black man.

    CLASSY??????????????????????????
  • abe · 1 year ago
"He would not have been my pastor," Clinton said. "You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend."

Ever been so angry that you just cannot sit still? You fidget. You agitate. You cannot believe the words you are stringing together in your head. That's me.

And Hills, I am not an "angry black man" like I know you want the media to see. I'm a deeply offended, deeply furious white dude. In a state that has not yet had its primary.
  • cm · 1 year ago
    @ anon:

    I was being snarky.

At this point, I can't summon up outrage anymore at Hillary's tactics.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
    CLASSY?

The government purposely gave Blacks syphillus! Babies died and were born deformed! African American's died shameful deaths and somehow Clinton is classy and Wright is the racist?????? OH, wonder why no one in the MSM is playing the entire sermon where WRIGHT indicates that some of this information was recived from a WHITE person???????

Do your research and listen to the full sermons! This man might have been a littel off the deep end but he is no racist!

    CM,

SORRY! I guess my "dander" is up! :-)
  • NMP · 1 year ago
The bitch went there! During an interview with the editorial board of a PA newspaper, she said Rev. Wright would not have been her pastor! The Obama campaign better hit back hard. The first response should be, "you just invite him to to the White House to hear the president's confessions."
  • abe · 1 year ago
"Stay classy" is a quote from Anchorman. It's total sarcasm leveled at somebody being anything less than classy. I've used it when describing HRC, too. It's far better than calling her a b---h, which, in my opinion, crudely undermines whatever criticism you just said.
  • cm · 1 year ago
Chris Matthews always brings up the Jackie Robinson analogy - says Obama has to be PERFECT and not react to the garbage thrown at him.

It feels like that's what Hillary and Bill are doing at this point. They want him to get angry and want it on tape. That's their last hope of getting the nomination.

I think the best way for the Obama campaign to respond is what they have been doing all along - that the Clintons will do or say anything to win. They embrace Wright when they need him, they throw him under the bus when it helps them. It's the narrative that the majority of the voters already believe - well, because it's true...
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
Obama and his surrogates better not utter another word about Wright in response to this latest quote from Hillary Rodham Nixon.

He's got to let it be.

She got caught with her clothes off on the Bosnia issue so she's trying to steer the story back to Wright.

Obama better not take the bait.
  • cm · 1 year ago
More crap from the Hillary campaign. It's clear this is a coordinated effort to revive the Wright controversy - it must mean they're really worried about the Tuzla sniper fire story.

From a Hillary finance committe guy who spilled the beans that it's officially coming from their campaign and not some "gaffe" by a supporter.

"I think the issue that the Clinton campaign has seized on is that Barack Obama, you know, never once raised his voice to his pastor and said, `I think your language is quite extreme here, and i think you language is probably wrong.' Because let's turn this around. If this was David Duke and he was preaching on behalf of, and Hillary Clinton was in the pew, there would be outrage about this. And there can't be this double standard. Barack Obama has used race where it suited him, but when it doesn't suit him he backs away from it.""

    http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/

Let's stay calm. They are just waiting for the slightest excuse to scream "they're playing the race card again!"
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Something very strange just happened. Drudge put Hillary's attempt to revive Wright on the top of his page, but after about 15 minutes, he buried it down in the body, well below other stories. It's almost like the muckiest of muckrackers just said: "Not this time."
  • The Bag of Health and Politics · 1 year ago
This time it's Hillary herself blowing the whistle. The Clintons are, as Andrew Sullivan says, truly disgusting.
  • RhondaCoca · 1 year ago
Hillary Clinton would take the endorsement of Rev.Wright as she did with other black ministers. She would surely have gone to his church to pander!!

Why is her campaign trying to bring this back up with the conservative talking points?? I offically HATE Hillary Clinton.
  • The Christian Progressive Libe · 1 year ago
Okay, this heifer has been caught with her slip showing, but all of you need to understand this:

HILLARY IS DOING ALL OF THIS BECAUSE IF SHE CAN'T GET THE NOMINATION, NO ONE WILL!

Her plan is to screw up Obama, no matter what the outcome. She wants him so wounded from the primary, he will do a half-assed job in the general and McCain slides right in.

The fix is in - she has to manuever a way towards her goal. She wants to set herself up for a run in 2012 if she doesn't get it NOW.

She does not CARE if she destroys the Democratic Party.

She does not CARE if she damages Obama, a fellow Democrat.

She wants to force Obama to spend money that he could be using in the General against McCain, thereby further crippling him.

She does not CARE; she wants that nomination at all costs, by any means necessary, and everyone else be damned.

There should be another petition demanding Howard Dean and the Party elders get off their collective horses' rear ends and have a sit down with Hillary and give her a choice; either resign with dignity or get forced out of the Party in ignomy (shame).

Should she chose the latter, New York needs to pass a resolution and initiate a recall election of Hillary, and replace her with a Senator that will be represent New York and not be some carpet bagger who moved there solely for political purposes.
  • cm · 1 year ago
    Rhondacoca,

The Wright controversy is not hurting Obama the way the Clintons expected. And then this video surfaces of Hillary most definitely NOT dodging sniper fire. Her ridiculous response - I misspoke, I was sleep deprived, I speak millions of words a day, blah blah - isn't helping her any. They must be really worried about the sniper lie, because this latest tactic reeks of desperation.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
    CM,

You are right. BO needs to stop talking about Wright. LET IT GO! He needs to start running against McBush and plain ignore her! She's not even worth it anymore!
  • RhondaCoca · 1 year ago
Barack had not been talking about him, the media has been talking about him.

Christian Progressive, I live in New York but i'm not a registered Dem but i have been making noise about her.

The Obama camp has responded to Clinton's comment regarding Wright:

    From NBC's Domenico Montanaro

Obama's campaign responded to Clinton's comments on the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

“After originally refusing to play politics with this issue, it’s disappointing to see Hillary Clinton’s campaign sink to this low in a transparent effort to distract attention away from the story she made up about dodging sniper fire in Bosnia," Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton writes. "The truth is, Barack Obama has already spoken out against his pastor’s offensive comments and addressed the issue of race in America with a deeply personal and uncommonly honest speech. The American people deserve better than tired political games that do nothing to solve the larger challenges facing this country.”

Clinton told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review editorial board, "He would not have been my pastor. You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend." She continued, "You know, I spoke out against Don Imus (who was fired from his radio and television shows after making racially insensitive remarks), saying that hate speech was unacceptable in any setting, and I believe that. I just think you have to speak out against that. You certainly have to do that, if not explicitly, then implicitly by getting up and moving."

She repeated similar comments at an on-camera press conference later in the day.

I agree with the post but how much responsibility lies with the Obama campaign in not taking a more pro-active stance? His campaign seriously blundered with the Rev Wright situation. He had to have known it was going to come up eventually. I mean this is from a man who had enough vision to send letters to Chair of the Fed one year ago about the pending subprime mortgage crisis. HRC is a dog with a bone. She is NOT going to go away. It's all or nothing and I have no doubt if she doesn't get to be the nominee she will do everything to take down Obama by any means necessary. It almost seems worse than the Republicans because they'd do it any Democratic candidate. She is personally doing this to Obama. I think he is so used to being the talented tenth he can't handle being seriously hated on. They've left cracks and she is going at them with a jackhammer. The narrative should be that it's over, but he won't DO ANYTHING. He speaks well, he intellectualizes in a way that is wonderful, but he is missing groups of people who don't relate that way. It was a snide comment of HRC but the mention of a latte-sipping crowd has some merit. I am still pissed at him for not defending his wife when she was attacked esp by the O'Reilly lynching comment. When Chelsea was referred to as being pimped out HRC responded immediately. Obama is being methodical and cautious i get it, but to me at times he looks weak. No one would ever describe HRC as being weak even though she'll play the oppressed white woman card in a second. So if she gets to wrangle this nomination away I lay it squarely at his feet. I believe that his core advisors are white men and they need to get real. He can not run a race-blind campaign and should not be so idealistic. They're seasoned but perhaps not enough. We all now what she is capable of. Is he trying to throw this election?

This Bosnia Thing has got the Clinton Campaign scurred shytless...this is the opening to end this thing....THERE IS BLOOD IN THE WATER... The MSM smells blood...if you watched Hardball and NBC Nightly News, they are all saying the same thing...HILLARY IS TRYING TO DISTRACT THE MEDIA FROM THE BOSNIA LIES BY REVIVING REV. WRIGHT...

HILLARY's playing a zero-sum game...anyone who thinks that their acting in the best interest of the democratic party needs to ACT NOW...Not after PA, Not after June 3rd, THEY NEED TO ACT NOW!

Even if she were the nominee, there is no f&king; way that she can survive that lie in the fall...the Republicans would SURELY RUN HER INTO THE GROUND.

THE SUPERDELEGATES NEED TO STAND UP AND END THIS NOW.

    CPL,

That's why I think the Tonya Harding label will stick.

In fact, I've decided, from now on, when I post about her, I'm going to call her Tonya Harding. ...this is a personal decision, not a JJP decision.
