Barbara Walters and Edward Brooks were NOT married! They were just getting their beige swirl on.
  • Nichelle · 1 year ago
    Um... what dnA said.

And ditto for Mary Wilson and Tom Jones who "broke her heart". I hope you guys discuss some interracial couples who were actually married and not just secret lovers trying to push new books LOL!

How do you all feel about Harold Ford - he just married a white woman?

Edward Brooks did leave his wife to marry BaWaWa, but she declined for fear of theirs careers being damaged. I think she said some of her friends talked her out of it.

My sources tell me Ed Brooke (who is a Republican...remember, it really wasn't until the 60s that the old Civil War Dixiecrat thing shook loose) is fuming not so much about revealing the affair (his kids and teenage grandchildren were pretty much prepared)--it was Babs's bullshit proclamation that "[Ed] didn't consider himself black...he was light-skinned."

Brooke was proud of his accomplishments and his heritage; he always corrected whitefolk who proclaimed him the first black senator--he said he was the first "popularly elected." Recall your high school civics: senators were appointed by vote of the state legislatures, not directly by the people, until the beginning of the 20th century. He always said that blanche Bruce of Miss. was his hero and a portrait of Bruce (born a slave and black as midnight) hung in his office. He wasn't a Panther by any stretch...but would Barack be? Hell no. But Brooke has always said he's black/Negro/colored or whatever we called ourselves in the last 70 years and he pissed off at Barbara. yet as we see, the soap opera/pundit hype machine establishes it's own truth.

Blanche Bruce was not "black as midnight" but I get your point.

Also, where did Barbara Walters say that Brooke did not consider himself black? In her book or on Oprah's show?
  • Nichelle · 1 year ago
Ms. Martin - Are you asking me about Harold Ford? Just in case, his marriage doesn't bother me one bit. I am not losing my mind over every black man marrying a white woman. Can't do it.

I'm glad that Harold Ford is on the playing field just like Cory Booker, Adrian Fenty, Artur Davis and the other new-guard (mostly) independent-minded black politicians.

I just thought if we were going to discuss interracial marriages, we should dicuss actual and current marriages.

Say it ain't so ... Harold Ford married a white woman? Any chance she is simply a light-skinned sista?

    peace, Villager

Ms Martin - I see. And I totally agree with you. That's why the examples of Barbara Walters and Mary Wilson are so funny.

Oh she's not just white...she's fucking nordic. If there is any justice in the world their child will turn out like me.

My brother married a white woman, and my dad is white, so I'm not against that or anything. But given Ford's politics, that would be a fun irony...

I love the racialicious web site!

Barbara WaWa needs to sit down. She was on Oprah saying she wasn't a mistress, she was independent when categorizing her relationship with the married Brooke. WTF! She needs a dictionary.
  • Christopher Chambers · 1 year ago
She said it (re: Brooke's supposed opinion of himself) in the book and in a print interview, which I will find for you.

Re Bruce, he's lack as midnite compared to Ed. hahaha.

FYI Derval Patrick's Lt. Gov dedicated a new Mass. Attorney General's portraiture hallway (dudes going back to 1797) and Brooke, who was likley the first African American to hold such a post as well, didn't show due to the publicity from Babs.

I have no issue interracial relationships and marriages. None at all. We are all chidren of God (although some may acknowledge him and some choose not to) so it is an non-issue for me.

Harold Ford married a white woman? Is the same white woman that was in the GOP Ad telling him to call her? No wonder they let Harold Ford on TeeVee speaking on TeeVee speaking for "black folks".

As for Barbara Waa Waa, someone needs to ask why she's coming out with this information now. Also we need to check out all the TeeVee Talkers to see what skeltons are in their closets since they love to look in other peoples closets. What hypocrites.

Wouldn't it be better to recognize the Lovings and their heroic efforts to stand up for their right to love and marry?

Who cares whom Harold Ford married?

Mildred and Richard Loving were terrorized at 2AM when their local sheriff barged into their bedroom and hauled them off to jail. Imagine being pulled out of your bed and arrested like that. A pregnant woman dragged out of her bed and dumped in jail.

After going a "trial," the judge banished them from the state of Virginia, away from their only home, family, and friends.

Let's not lose sight of their struggle.

    P.S.

Harold Ford and his wife have the same skin color. Let's not pretend that Ford isn't mixed-race like most African-Americans.

Whom he chooses to marry is his business.
