Afternoon Open Thread
I have given my reasons and written as much as I think matters.
By the way...I have also written CNN, MSNBC and the NYT regarding the Al Giordano comments and I have seen they have chosen to not address Hillary's military faux pas of embellishing her "combat/wartime" experience.
Really makes you wonder about the "free" or "objective" press.... and if her name wasn't Clinton instead of Obama, how much play would still be going on! I think we all know the answer to that. If Obama had committed the same "blip" Hillary claims she did, we would have seen his concession speach by now.
Oh well, lets keep fighting the good fight.
Specifically, Hillary was criticizing Pastor Jeremiah Wright and saying that Obama should have disowned his pastor, so then Donna Brazile pointed out that the Black pastors, including Wright, who met with Clinton in the White House during the impeachment proceedings didn't disavow Bill Clinton over his marital infidelity and oral sex in the Oval Office. So, the Clintons ought not be so quick and disloyal to abandon Pastor Wright now.
As someone said of the Clintons, they're right there for you when they need you!
Since Donna Brazile's an uncommitted super-delegate, the Clintons are not at liberty to dismiss her, the way they dismiss all other Black voters. So, let's write to Donna Brazile ( info@brazileassociates.com ) and thank her for defending Black people and the Black church. And let's ask her to take a more public role in favor of the candidate who has the most earned delegates, the most popular vote and the most states won, and who can best bring the country together to win Republican states and the presidency: Barack Obama.
Thanks for leading the way forward on this, Baratunde!
copy of letter follows
"Dear Ms. Brazile;
I see you frequently on CNN and I respect you very much. I am writing as a concerned Democratic voter.
What has transpired over the last few days upsets me alot. I am an Obama supporter. These past few days since Hillary Clinton has been exposed for her Bosnia lies concerns me because she is now getting more vicious against Obama to take the spotlight off her.
I am sick and tired of party officials like the Clintons who don't think the rest of us "get it." I will never support Hillary if she wins the nomination and I have family and friends who feel the same way. Those feelings are becoming more ingrained in us as each day goes on and especially as we watch the Clintons try to destroy Senator Obama.
Hillary Clinton has committed an egregious military faux pas in her hyping her Bosnia trips. It is an insult to all military families and especially to those families who have lost loved ones in a war she supported for her to falsely claim she endured "sniper fire" simply to embellish her experiences.
How in the world can you and other super delegates believe she can win in a general election against Senator McCain when she not only agreed with him in supporting this unnecessary war and then she tried to fake "combat" experience which ended up making her look like a complete fool? The videos are out there and we all know they will be played endlessly.
I look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Angela Patterson

Thanks for Brazile's email address, she is the one person that I haven't written who I believe the voters could appeal to.
She has frequently said that she is more concerned about the Democratic party remaining intact. Surely she can translate the will of the voters to the other Democrats.
She has felt our pain over the Wright situation and I'm sure other Superdelegates have as well. I'm sure some of them won't be happy with the way HRC has tried to bring this back to the forefront.
Basically, her response was that she had been friends will the Clintons for many many years and had pleged her support at the start of the campaign. However, if Barack won the nomination, she would support his candidacy.
Interesting exchange. I plan on keeping it in mind when she runs for office again. :-)
it was Hillary's former pastor defending Rev. Wright.... and condemning using this as a wedge issue -- thought you would like to know!
Shouldn't the superdelegates vote their conscience?
Because based on your reasoning, if a district or state went to Hillary, then the superdelegate should vote that way. Bill Richardson, Kennedy and Kerry would end up voting for Clinton.
I'm just sayin'.
i actually was careful NOT to argue that superdelegates simply vote the way their districts do.
that's an oversimplified demand, in my view, that happens to benefit Obama overall, for now.
my case is to talk to the superdelegates in their role to ensure the viability of the party in November at all levels of government.
i don't know these people, but i have to believe some of them are as disgusted by the clinton campaign as some of us regular folks are. they need the political space to express that view though. bill richardson and donna brazile help. we can too
I was referring to the following example:
"An example: Yvette Clarke is a superdelegate for New York's 11th congressional district. This is Brooklyn. Obama won 56 percent of the vote in this district, yet Yvette has pledged for Hillary. I suggest a respectful letter to her asking her to reconsider her support."
Perhaps you can use another example to make your point.
here's the entire thing i wrote
-----
4. Finally I suggest writing to super delegates committed to Hillary despite the fact that Obama won their district.
An example: Yvette Clarke is a superdelegate for New York's 11th congressional district. This is Brooklyn. Obama won 56 percent of the vote in this district, yet Yvette has pledged for Hillary. I suggest a respectful letter to her asking her to reconsider her support.
Be careful using this logic, however. There are plenty of superdelegates pledged to Obama despite the fact that their districts voted for Hillary. The case to be made is not simply that they should vote in lockstep with their constituents. That's too simple. It has to be a broader case about which candidate is best for the party and how the party is being damaged by the continued ugliness of the campaign. And how all this helps the GOP.
-------
i think i qualified the example of yvette enough. i hear your concern, but nothing i wrote can be interpreted as a simple call for her to vote with her district. it IS a call to vote her conscious. after we've applied some pressure to it.
thanks
Surprise, surprise.
Blacks aren't intelligent enough to pick the right party, hey? LOL!
I put in my Blogging for Voter Justice post for people to sign the petition, contact the DNC, and contact superdelegates.
I'm glad you're working to re-enfoce that effort.
I just got off the phone leaving messages at the DNC for Karen Finney and Howard Dean.
I'm email Donna Brazile and some Tennessee superdelegates tonight.
