Jack and Jill Politics: Ludacris “Helps” Obama Pretend Like He’s Never Met Ludacris

  • msrpotus · 1 year ago
I'm not wild about Ludacris' music, but "Well give Luda a special pardon if I’m ever in the slammer"? Does he want to hurt Obama?
  • Miranda · 1 year ago
I would venture to say no less than 2/3rds of all raps released in the last 6 months have Obama's name in it - much like Bush's name is in at least one rap song on every rap CD released in the last 5 years....especially those released after August 2005...ouch.

Luda knows (or I thought he did) he is too high profile for this - of course it would get noticed. I know he didn't think he was gonna be the hiphop artist to perform at one of the inauguration concerts, did he?? Common has that gig on LOCK.
  • NO ID · 1 year ago
No, he doesnt. Common attended, performed at and publicly defended Trinity Church so I doubt that. In fact the first time I ever saw or heard of TUCC was via a video on YouTube popular on music sites where Common raps in front ot the congregation.
  • Pam16 · 1 year ago
A part of me wonders why Ludacris would even write a song trashing Hillary and McCain while praising Obama. Come on don't tell me he didn't know Fox News would use his lyrics to hurt Obama some way.

Then another part of me ask why can't Ludacris say what he wants "Free speech " Folks. Also, dumbass Obama should have known better to be seen with certain rappers sing about hoes, guns, drugs etc... Come now Obama camp you guys can't be out there talking about getting the womans vote and then be taken pictures with folks who trash women.
Get it together Obama! As for Luda he was just being hisself..
  • NO ID · 1 year ago
Barack probably feels exactly the same way.....but since Luda's a rapper and Barack's a politician, Luda gets to say what he wants!
  • Pam16 · 1 year ago
Luda gets to say what he wants!....That's the problem Fox News will make it look like that is what Obama really thinks of Hillary. Do you think having Luda with a history of rapping about hoes & bitches helps Obama with the female vote?
No, it does not that is why Obama should really stop taking pictures with these dudes and if he asked again what music he likes lie and say "Nat King Cole or anything old school."
  • Acts Of Faith Blog · 1 year ago
When will they learn? He's not a new kid on the block. Some of these men like him and Bernie Mack and all the others to follow still indulge in their gender biases and pathologies so it should not come as a surprise that they would have no internal filter to take it down a notch. With all the exaggerated charges of sexism [when it pertained to white women] that were bandied about why oh why would Luda write a lyric referring to Hillary with such language. Of course she he refers to Black women that way as well why should it be a surprise really? He's not stupid. He just doesn't care. And these men should not get a pass. How many Black female artists or comediennes do you see supporting Obama which such tomfoolery? Tubbs-Jones and Jackson Lee are water-bearers for Clinton and as politicians don't count. Will-I-Am captured lightening in a bottle and spoke to our spirits. There are some other artists who've done nice tributes as well. The rest...they should just be quiet.

What makes us think Ludicris is trying to help Barack?
  • Anovelista · 1 year ago
I am no Ludacris fan - but I think he was being incredibly selfish and not thinking about Barack at all. Just himself ("I'm on Obama's iPod! He'll give me a special pardon if I'm ever in the slammer!") Ugh!!

Of course, this is the same Ludacris that was photographed with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates the other day - but they won't have to answer for him unless he brags about it in his next song. http://dealbreaker.com/2008/07/caption_contest_...

I read that rap and I admit I'm not a rap connoisseur but it seemed thrown together, like he didn't dig very deep or try to be thoughtful about it. It was mostly trash talk. We have the first viable black candidate, couldn't he come up with something more moving and meaningful to honor Obama. "Bush is mentally handicapped"?...c'mon, couldn't he be more original than that?

I agree he was being selfish, it's all about riding Obama's wave to get a few bucks in sales. He just sat down and threw something together in a couple minutes to take advantage of the news cycles.

Everybody's hustling and trying to make a buck....off Obama.
  • Anovelista · 1 year ago
"Couldn't he come up with something more moving and meaningful to honor Obama?"

That would be too much like RIGHT!

Imagine the thoughtful, seering rhymes he could have made about Bush or McCain or even Hillary. Something that shows he's read a paper or understands the issues that separate Obama from McCain and Bush (the war, McCain not knowing the difference between Sunnis and Shiites, McCain waxing rhapsodic about the situation on the non-existent "Iraq/Pakistan border."

Like you, I'm hardly a rap connoisseur, but a true lyricist could have done something really powerful here.
  • caligirl · 1 year ago
yeah. that's why i miss biggie and tupac. imagine the poetry they would have made about this moment in time!

i really don't think this "song" is going to be a big deal though.

What makes us think Ludicris is trying to help Barack?
    ..............................................................................................................

Honestly, my first thought is Luda just wanted to make a hard edge sung about Obama. And being the typical rapper Ludacris just had to thrown in bitch or hoe to make the rap extra spicy for Fox News...LOL
Now, we all know if he really wanted to help Obama he would just sung praise about Obama and left the reference to Hillary and McCain out. But then again maybe old dude smoked so much weed he didn't think his lyrics about Obama would get noticed.
  • NO ID · 1 year ago
Yes why doesn't everyone who has any critique or who wants to express themselves however they want to about Obama just STFU! I mean apparently no one can say anything about Barack Obama until he gets in the White House. Come on, it's not that serious, if Luda changed your vote, you wasn't voting for Barack anyway. And what's really funny is that the MSM and Fox completely missed Nas' "Black President" which samples Barack's voice (and Tupac's too) is on and album that was initially called "Nigger" and has a song in support of Louis Farrakhan. Someone at Fox's research department is off their game.
  • Pam16 · 1 year ago
No one is saying that people can't speak out about Obama. I actually agree with Luda on this one. The man has a right to free speech and if we want to say ho, bitch etc... that is his thing. However, Luda mostly likely knew damn well they would take his lyric about Hillary to start drama with her former supports.
The media is trying to link Obama with everyone on planet earth to bring him down. I personally don't believe the man will ever be president. Why? Because the Black race has a history of selling out their own. Just wait some white man is going to offer money to the first crab in the barrel.
  • NO ID · 1 year ago
it seems to be that we've finally found something to be unified about because if you are black and you ain't riding for obama 100 percent you risk losing friends and family over it! and given that he's going to get a good 95% of black voters who do vote, i think we can say we have a consensus. so i don't think black folks and our "crab in the barrel" thing will hurt him. i think that racist ass yt's who control the airwaves and the voting machines will have much more to do with any loss. given the fact that that their weak ass candidate is even competitive shows you just how racist they are.

..Gosh, I can't recall who said it...but a black woman was on a panel the other day and she said something along the lines that blacks sometimes believe that because you're black and I'm black, we're family. I think she meant there's an inappropriate familiarity with Barack sometimes. I dunno, maybe.
  • msmartin · 1 year ago
    Sometimes an incredibly inappropriate familiarity.
  • Miranda · 1 year ago
Truthseeker, I have to agree with that woman. I would venture to say that Luda, Bernie Mac, a lot of US....just don't get the magnitude of what Barack is doing.
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
Oh, they get the magnitude of what Barack is doing. And they want to make money off of it.

I'm getting quite tired of all this "outrage" when Hillary is called a bitch, because when Michelle is called a bitch nobody bats an eye. Also none of these people had a problem when Ludacris was calling black women bitches in his song, but heavens to Betsy don't call Miss Hillary a bitch!

Oh I'm batting an eye alright! I don't like Ludacris calling Hillary a bitch and I don't like him calling me or any other black woman a bitch and I have called Ludacris and other rappers out before (although in some circles, that qualifies as "tearing a brother down")

Heavens to Betsy DO NOT call me or any other woman of any other color a bitch!

well, I won't even SAY what me and my girlfriend have called Ms. Hillary in our home as we watched the primary insanity unfold. Perhaps this makes us two lesbians "anti-woman."

Also none of these people had a problem when Ludacris was calling black women bitches in his song, but heavens to Betsy don't call Miss Hillary a bitch!

White Woman In Distress and Under Fire! OMG! White Woman's Honor Under Attack!
  • Quanli · 1 year ago
I'm sure Luda ain't saying nothing Bill hasn't uttered! I con-sign with Town. This one song will become the "proof" for Hillary's clique. "See, look at the sexism!!". GTFOH. These women love to throw around corny terms like "pig" in reference to men, but nobody can tell me Hillary didn't earn the title.
  • Maurice Stewart · 1 year ago
Ludacris is extremely self-serving. He knows very well that the right wing would use this to paint Barack as someone whose associations is not credible i.e Rev. wright, Ayers, etc. yet, he had to use Barack's popularity to try to make money off him. What's wrong with many of us as black people?
I suggest that we boycott his records and send a clear message to him that terms such as bitch, niggers, hoes etc is TOTALLY unacceptable.
  • NO ID · 1 year ago
oh NOW people are mad at dude because of this song..he and other rappers have been calling black women bitches and ho's for years. he's by far not even the worst of the bunch.....,
  • B-Serious · 1 year ago
    Yup, bad move by Luda.

Don't get me wrong, I hate censorship and can't stand some of the fake "discussions" our (black) community often has about rap lyrics, etc.

HOWEVER . . . that doesn't excuse a person from using his brain. And, on my list of priorities, I'd rather not have a national debate on hip hop when we've got bigger fish to fry (ohhh I don't know, like winning a PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION).

That's what gets me about this story. Luda ain't stupid. I actually think he's one of the more clever lyricists in the game (whether people like his lyrics is a separate issue). But I don't think he's dumb. So why did he even go there? He's talented enough to have been a little more creative in his approach (will.i.am is a great example).
  • Town · 1 year ago
Let me put it this way: We have this fake outrage that Hillary is being called a bitch in a Ludacris rap song, but one of Hillary's biggest supporters made his money off black women being called bitches, black women shaking their asses and black men being degraded by being portrayed as pimps, drug dealers and thugs running from somebody. Um, yeah. Ok.
  • pjamma · 1 year ago
I think the outrage, for me at least, is that Luda is calling Hillary a bitch in a song about Obama. Call Hillary a bitch in her own song, not a problem. Bring Obama into the song and it's a problem because someone will make the connection (however round about) that Obama thinks Hillary is a bitch. And even if he does think that it's not for Luda to vocalize on his behalf.
  • Sepia · 1 year ago
ITA! This just gives Hillary Fanatics, McCain's Campaign, and the media more ammunition to use against Obama. Now, for the next 2-3 days they'll be talking about this instead of the real issues.

THINK, PEOPLE! THINK! Folks coming out their mouth way too early, thinking Obama got this on lock. We've got 4 looooong months to go. Speak and act strategically.
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago
    Sepia: Co-signing on this concept!
  • NO ID · 1 year ago
If you are talking about Russell Simmons, just to be factually correct, he may have indeed made his money off rappers calling women bitches (but he's also behind Run DMC and Public Enemy) but he was one of the first to endorse Barack Obama. He admittedly has done fundraisers for Hillary Clinton, but a lot of black folks did before Barack came on the scene.
  • Town · 1 year ago
Actually I was not talking about Russell Simmons. I was talking about Bob Johnson.
  • NO ID · 1 year ago
Oh, well, in that case.....you're absolutely right!!!!!!
  • Anovelista · 1 year ago
You haven't seen the criticism Bob Johnson has gotten on this site? He has hardly gotten off scot-free here or other places.
  • Town · 1 year ago
I wasn't talking about Bob Johnson getting criticized on this site. Bob Johnson was one of the Gang of 20 who sent that letter to Pelosi threatening repercussions and consequences if she and the superdelegates didn't back Hillary. He was the one out there insinuating Obama was doing drugs in the corner while Billary was out saving black folks. He was out there saying Obama betta choose Hillary as VP. This man made billions off of degrading black women, off of black women being called bitches in songs, black asses gyrating, credit cards being swiped down ass cracks, etc. Not to mention 99% of the black men on the channel were drug dealers, pimps, layabouts, thugs, hood rich, etc. All the news shows got taken off, all the positive shows got taken off so we could have more asses shaking (in between the infomercials).

The Hillary supporters are screaming about "sexism!" but one of her biggest supporters made his fortune off of...sexism.

It's fake. Fake outrage. Hillary gets up in the newspaper screaming about sexism, but one of her biggest fundraisers/supporters made his $$$ off of sexism. Hillary screams about sexism but one of her biggest surrogates claimed Hillary was more of a man than Obama was and had the body parts to prove it. And all Hillary did was shuck and buck like a simpering fool when he said that. Geriatric Ferraro gets up on TV crying about the dudes carryign in the IRON MY SHIRT sign, but not one person questioned her as to HOW these dudes were able to sneak in a big ass IRON MY SHIRT sign and get down to the front row with it. It's all phony. I need for all this fake outrage and tomfoolery to stop.
  • Anovelista · 1 year ago
Oh! Now I see where you're coming from Town about the fake outrage - and I agree with you completely! We haven't heard one word from the virulent Hillary supporters who scream "sexism" when it comes to Bob Johnson and I always believed the "Iron My Shirt" incident was a set up. Several people noticed in that video that the lights actually came up (brighter) when the guy put up the sign. You could actually tell. It seemed very fishy to me.
  • Town · 1 year ago
You have this fake outrage at Ludacris/Obama and the new complaints that Obama's not "aggressively raising money like he's supposed to" and it just seems to be manufactured outrage to whip up Hillary supporters to press for her to be the VP.
  • Jake · 1 year ago
A fine piece of entertainment, but beyond that its political/poetic value is nothing. As other comments have mentioned, it may mobilize a small amount of voters around the nation, but I find it hard to believe that Ludacris's influence on voter registration would be greater than a federally-mandated e-voter registration system (such as the ones being implemented or talked about in states like California with great success).

In other, much more important, news, Obama says he will order review of executive orders.
Barack Obama told House Democrats on Tuesday that as president he would order his attorney general to scour White House executive orders and expunge any that "trample on liberty," several lawmakers said.

Presidents, as head of the executive branch of government, issue such orders to direct operations of executive branch agencies, like the Justice Department and the CIA. For example, President Bush used an executive order last year to breathe new life into the CIA's controversial terror interrogation program that allowed harsh questioning of suspects.

Obama "talked about how his attorney general is to review every executive order and immediately eliminate those that trample on liberty," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.

"He indicated there would be a review in his administration," said Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the House majority whip.

Obama did not mention executive orders when he addressed reporters who waited for him outside the closed-door meeting. He said only that he would be campaigning alongside members to win the presidency and help expand Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.

"I am looking forward to collaborating with everyone here to win the election, but more importantly to collaborate with everybody here and also some like-minded Republicans to actually govern and to deliver on behalf of the American people," Obama said.

During his presidency, Bush increasingly has relied on executive orders to dictate policies without seeking congressional approval. His orders have ranged from restrictions on striped bass fishing to sanctions against Myanmar's government.

Obama did not indicate who his attorney general would be, or any other member of his Cabinet. To lawmakers who asked about his Cabinet plans, Obama said: "Get me elected, and then I'll worry about the Cabinet. . . ."

It is not just about Obama; that song is just low brow and not creative. But, in reference to Obama... Why would an artist with such a high mainstream profile and who has visibly supporting a candidate, make a song like that?

Luda is a grown ass man, I don't know who he was trying to play tuff guy for, with those ghetto lyrics. The important thing is this shows how lazy some rapper artist have become.

But we all knnow the game...Be on the look out for a new Luda album in about 2 months. That was a pure publicity stunt on Luda's part.

"The best reparations we can provide are good schools in the inner city and jobs for people that are unemployed..."

Obama, dude... Not helping. It's like Harvard failed you. Like you don't know what reparations are. Brown vs. Board and all that MLK civil rights stuff (and affirmative action) is supposed to be about that good schools and jobs stuff.

"Chris Rock had a routine. He said some-too many of our men..."

Obama, dude... NOT helping. You know that sh*t came from Rock's "N*ggers vs. Black people" routine. It's like Harvard failed you, quoting a comedian... It's like you subscribe to some of that Juan Williams bs that Black people have become more than one race.

    START POSING ON CONSERVATIVE SITES!!!!

people know the right is going to use this, even though luda was using words and not a gun...not like he went on a hate filled rampage against conservatives and neo-con(victs) in a church and killed two people during a childrens' performance ..... oh, sh*t didn't that....

HEY, WHAT'S WITH THE CENSOR SHIP ANYWAY?!!!

but, oh well, here we go again... is mccain responsible for every word uttered by everyone of his supporters. how about phil gram's comments? WOW, its all in our heads not being able to buy gas, food, and pay bills all on two checks. i guess a "nation of whiners" can look past that because he was only the economic adviser on the mccain ticket....but we know whats REALLY important.
a rap lyric...... and we all know how so very relevant rap is!!!

people need to ask, who has a bigger impact on THEIR life?
some guy talking..... or some guy making policy?
