Jack and Jill Politics: Maybe Condi’s Black After All

  • Bronze Trinity · 2 years ago
Yeah I'll remember that the next time someone looks at me suspiciously or gives me attitude in a store. It doesn't happen much to me though or not that I notice.

Yeah, I saw that item too, but it didn't occur to me that this might be the "black" in her. More like the abusive & privileged jerk under provocation.

Sorry Brother Bruce, from the moment I read this, I knew what this was about: SWB.

    Shopping While Black

It takes many forms, but, one form in particular if you're a Black woman in a 'Chi Chi' Boutique - White Girls Making Mininum Wage thinking that they can flatout disrespect you.

Like I said, there's not a Black woman alive that can't relate to this story.

LOL...who knew? BTDT and I definitely call them on it.

Where does it say that the woman helping her was white?! What if it was another black woman? We don't know. And no, as a black woman, I can't relate to Condi on this. But as a professional who paid for two degrees by working retail, I feel for the woman behind the counter.

Funny that we would think Condi "tearing someone to shreds" represents her Blackness more than being an Ivy League graduate and professor and a Black woman in the highest power position in politics. We call her a sellout for that. Way to show our girls which role to emulate.

amen cece - sorry but shopping while black doesn't make the title of this story any less offensive to me. If Condi had responded to the rude clerk politely but firmly I'm quite sure that wouldn't have "brought out the black" in this author's eyes. It wasn't standing up for herself because of possible discrimination - it was the fact she did it with sass. I can imagine this author gleefully hoping Condi pulled a neck roll and a finger snap too.

recalls going into a shop where Rice asked to see earrings. The clerk showed her costume jewelry. Rice asked to see something nicer, prompting the clerk to whisper some sass under her breath.
