Jack and Jill Politics: Michael Jackson has had a heart attack

  • eclecticbrotha · 6 months ago
We need to let MSNBC know how fucked up their commentary of Jackson's death is right now. All they want to talk about is the molestation trial, how strange his behavior was, his financial problems etc etc. What the fuck.
  • MsKitty · 6 months ago
It's not much better on a couple of other message boards I go to from time to time. One in particular is practically having a party. I'm not saying that the insanity of the later years should be overlooked, but damn.
  • Miranda · 6 months ago
Indeed...Michael Jackson is the only artist EVER that could decide to have a concert in the middle of a remote village in a third world country where there is little to no outside communication and it would still sell out.
  • Myth · 6 months ago
They will probably have to have this funeral in an open field. The next week is going to be unbelievable.
  • Webb · 6 months ago
Co-sign, I was typing a comment about that when the LATimes reported. All media organizations are gonna have to be very careful about how they cover the life and times of Michael Jackson, especially during the next seven days, mourning period.

FIVE MINUTES after confirmation is not a good time to be bringing all that shyt up. In fact, it is just plain DUMB.
  • thefriendraiser · 6 months ago
so hateful...they can't let a black man have nothing in this country sometimes!
  • Myth · 6 months ago
ABC will have a one hour special tonight on Mikey. (Also a one hour special on Farrah too.)

Mike trumps that stupid azz Clarence Thomas today.
  • Alexander2 · 6 months ago
Savannah Guthrie was going on and on about the trial. At the end she stated (as fact) that Michael will be remembered as much for the trial as for his music. I barely remember the trial, except the acquittal. MSNBC is showing no respect for the man, the family, and the music.
  • spirit_55z · 6 months ago
I e-mailed Shuster and told them to cut the CRAP with that fucking molestation shit. I'm sure Farrah Fawcet was no angel, no pun intended, but do we hear the sorted details about her life?

    They had better RECOGNIZE!!!!!!!!!!!
  • thefriendraiser · 6 months ago
    that is CNN
  • RonnieB · 6 months ago
The first concert I ever went to, was with my mom in 1969. We saw the Jackson 5 at the Cow Palace.

We Black Americans have lost a part of our collective soul.
  • Miranda · 6 months ago
I still can't quite grasp it. Its so strange....he was the first to die of all the Jackson siblings. Is it just me that's finding that so Shakespearean?
  • spirit_55z · 6 months ago
It is sad and tragic. Somehow, I've always had this sense that he would be the first to die of all his siblings...
  • AxelFoley · 6 months ago
Weird thing is (and I was telling my 14-year old daughter this, telling her about how big MJ was back in the day) growing up, I could never picture him old. Him or Prince (God forbid anything to happen to Prince).
  • CraigHickman · 6 months ago
I feel as though the entire tapestry of my coming of age has been ripped from the walls in a single 48-hour period.

Ed, Farrah and Michael, all gone.

    Have mercy.
  • rikyrah · 6 months ago
Craig that it so true. I think of being little, and the only way you saw Ed McMahon was if you snuck out of bed, and was standing in the doorway, trying to hide from your parents as they watched Carson in the living room (no such thing as a tv in every room). Sometimes they scolded you, other times, they told you to come on and sit with them.

Farrah - Charlie's Angels was revolutionary for its time, as odd as that might seem now. That poster was everywhere, and we wanted that hair.

Michael - wow...for my sisters, who actually went to see The Jackson Five routinely when they were growing up, to me being fully aware of Michael with Off The Wall first, then Thriller, and him MAKING MTV, and all that meant.

    Damn, you're right, Craig.
  • spirit_55z · 6 months ago
All three of them LEGENDS. And they all deserve respect. That's why I can't watch the tv. They are dragging out MJ's past with child molestation. FUCK THEM.
  • Muzikal203 · 6 months ago
I'm an 80s baby, so the first of those to really SHOCK me is Michael. I can't even cry, I'm in my place of disbelief where I'm just SHOCKED. But I'm loving the videos on MTV
  • parker404 · 6 months ago
All Black people need to stay off work tomorrow, a universal bereavement day.

Off The Wall was the first Album that I spent allowance money to buy.
  • SDG · 6 months ago
It's my favorite album of his. People talk about "Thriller", but it's "Off The Wall" that pushed him forward as a solo artist.
  • spirit_55z · 6 months ago
Thriller and Off The Wall are the only 2 albums I owned of his. Classics!
  • Webb · 6 months ago
I wonder how Savannah Guthrie would feel if a reporter was talking smack about her brother five minutes after she learned that he had died.

She needs to move a little closer to the crowd forming over at UCLA Med Center so that they can partake in her coverage and then promptly whoop-her-ass.
  • eclecticbrotha · 6 months ago
    Promptly.
  • Webb · 6 months ago
I'm telling you eb, all these networks are rushing to get their retrospectives on the air tonight--someone is liable to fuck up. They'd better have some POCs and culturally-sensitive producers in the mix.

If they spend the majority of their time talking about the controversy rather than the achievements, people gonna remember that shyt.
  • Muzikal203 · 6 months ago
Just turn to MTV and enjoy the music videos, they aren't even talking just showing videos/performances back to back
  • Miranda · 6 months ago
MTV owes Michael Jackson, they are truly recognizing right now.

The BET Awards are Sunday......they can forget trying to stick to any kind of script...just throw that out the window right now.
  • Muzikal203 · 6 months ago
and they are doing it in the best ay, no talking, just music
  • spirit_55z · 6 months ago
Say it, Miranda. Michael Jackson put MTV on the map PERIOD!
  • thefriendraiser · 6 months ago
i will watch the show this year...they gone fool on that joint...i wanna see someone pour out some liquor for him
  • GoldenAh · 6 months ago
I was in a voluntary no-news tunnel all day - like I usually am. I come to JJP and I see this topic.

My reaction, and I don't like to curse, is damn.

What gets me a bit pissy though, is how often white celebrities (politicians) get to die with dignity, their sins forgiven, and with an immediate restoration of their "good" name back. I know the media is going to rehash the ugly with Michael, even before his body turns cold.

This might sound odd, but I just had to ask my Mom: If a "wealthy" black man can't live past 50 years in America, what's going on here?

I've always liked Farrah and Ed McMahon.

May they all rest in peace.

  • Monie · 6 months ago
    Wow..shocking, unbelievable.

Michael was a gifted artist his ENTIRE life....it was innate, you couldn't manufacture that talent.

There is hardly any music today that can match his talent....music videos that can compare to the innovation he used in his......today we have moves called "stanky leg"....huh......give me the moonwalk and footwork and dance moves of Michael Jackson anyday.

Wow...he was an ICON....I am in shock
  • carolinagirl · 6 months ago
    *sigh*

I'm an 80s baby. Had the "Beat It" t-shirt. First time I heard "Off the Wall" was on my mom's 8-track player. I don't think there has ever been a time in my life without MJs music as a soundtrack.

I remember his HBO concert special. My uncle recorded it on VHS and my little cousin and I wore it OUT. I remember being scared of the "Thriller" video....This is just a sad, sad day. Today is the day that real Pop music died.

    From TMZ
He was picked up at his home around 20 minutes ago -- we're told his mother is on the way to visit him.

UPDATE: The 911 call came in at 12:21PM at his Holmby Hills home in L.A.

UPDATE: A Jackson family member tells TMZ Michael is in "really bad shape" and the brothers are headed to UCLA.

UPDATE: We just got off the phone with Joe Jackson, Michael's dad, who says "he is not doing well."

I find it so wierd, but almost like it was planned (I dont know another word to use) that he is the first of his siblings to pass away.

I'm just shocked and gutted right now. Damn.

I'm also pissed off at the way that even in the man's death some folks just have to tear him apart.

Thank you all for this site where at least there are people who loved his music and have compassion for him.

If you know Michael Jackson's bio you know he didn't stand a chance in many ways.

    RIP Michael.

Michael Jackson music was the soundtrack of my childhood. As a matter of fact, I only recently started to use the I-pod I was given almost a year ago (technically challenged) I had my husband load all of his stuff, especaill from the 80's and 90's.

I called my brother a little while ago to remind of when our parents bought he and our little brother the "Thriller" jacket. My brother took a black marker and drew little scriggly line all on his forehead! He was trying to mimic that baby hair/curl thing MJ had. My hubby also got in trouble when he took razors to his head to get the "baby hair" look. You know how important he is when both you and your Mother are crying.

I just feel empty. I am going to stay on the video channels for now.

    RIP Mike.

There is no better song than this:

    Ben

    I saw the movie too.

I played that song this evening, and I started to sob like a child. Even though it's about a pet rat, I feel this song personifies the unconditional love people yearn to experience.

Michael Jackson was a TRUE ICON. I get distrubed when I see what we consider icons now. We just assign people the title icon without understanding what it means. An icon is a person who has not been on the stage for at least 20 to 30 years and they are still relevant. Michael also had defining moments. Where are the defining moments in our current "icons" careers? Jackson had the Open Door, Thriller, Jackson 5, just to name a few, as a matter of fact these were called eras. Jackson hasn't made a track in years, and yet he can still threaten a comeback that could dominate charts when he gets ready. That's icon status. I'm sad to see that our music industry has gone to a bunch of half dressed jirating divas and copy cat male singers who only have to show up to be considered an icon versus actually working like Jackson did.
