Sharpton really shone today while talking about changing the rules mid-process, and from what is visible in the video it looks like the audience really responded to it.
Brother you are not authentic, just like so many others. I now understand why Tavis knew he could count on you to bust up Jesse's point and to defend those who took the wrong stand and were there begging us to not fire them---it my personal opinion there are some pink slips that should get served regardless. As Tavis said, "Thank you Dr. Dyson. Thank you for framing it like that for those of us who have been thrown under the bus. Thank you for breaking it down." Well I say, "Thank you C-span camera man. You may not have know exactly what you had in the frames of those shots but you had awakened me from a bamboozled moment. You exposed a pretender amongst us because I don't think I have seen a Black man grovel so much to the Missus since Morgan was Driving Miss Daisy."
I saw you Dyson and I am embarrassed that you above others felt you needed to lick those pumps. Do you and Tavis know something about some electronic vote tampering we can expect and you want to get in the cracked door now? Your speech in defense of Hillary and her supporters at the end of the morning wasn't lost on me because I saw it for what it was more plainly when I saw you bowing and scraping at her feet from one side of the room to the other. I shake my head as I type this. I always pay attention to the details while everyone else is whooping and hollering on cue; the devil lives in the details. It turned my stomach to watch you beg, bow, and scrape like that brother Dyson; stand like a man at all times but don't kneel like a slave when you think the cameras are off.
Thank you!
I wouldn't disparage any Black person accepting her apology and viewing her appearance as positive if she had actually said that and even came close to looking like she meant it. In full disclosure, ever since her campaign's race-baiting politics came to a head with her revealing comments regarding MLK/LBJ while she was making an argument that didn't make sense in the Clinton/Obama context... Well, because of that bs I wanted Sen. Clinton to be banned from any and all Black gatherings.
IMO, Tavis was stupid enough to let her come there to spit right in Black people faces.
Talking about camera shots... A number people in the audience looked the way I would have if I was there. There were several "why they let this [person] come here?" looks out there, IMO.
To me, it's a matter of principle and, Jack, that's where I draw the line with SJL, etc. As a matter of principle, they should challenge Hillary on the race-baiting, to apply pressure to make her understand vs. defending her blindly without holding her to account, OR they should respectfully reconsider by either withdrawing or switching to Obama if they feel so inclined.
But staying with Hillary and pretending like her diarrhea don't stink should never be what principled Black people do. And that sexism stuff was as forced and "aloof" as Hillary's strained and reluctant, half-azz apology. "My husband apologized for slavery..."
Hell at least write her damn speeches and tell her how to respond to questions about her campaign's race-baiting because Hillary f-cked that up going off on her own. I mean, if you're not going to be any good as far as Black people are concern in terms of ensuring that they (we) are okay with where you stand... at least straighten your girl out.
Damn.
All this talk about holding politicians accountable, that's all you've heard from him since this election started. And yet he sat there with Hillary Clinton and did not hold her accountable for the race baiting. He sat there and didn't even bother to hold her accountable for her stance on mandatory minimums. Nothing. It was a damn Barbara Walters interview. After all this talk about accountability, he basically asked her "Miss Hillary, if you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?!"
It was pathetic. And in some ways, the SOTBU itself has become irrelevant. As much as I admire Dr. West and Dr. Dyson and Dick Gregory, this event has become like Groundhog's Day. The same old people discussing the same old issues. I was glad to see Nicole Lee from TransAfrica, never heard of her before, and it was good to see some new perspectives on the stage. If Tavis actually wants this forum to mean something, he needs to step into the 21st century and have a more global discussion, like Ms. Lee was trying to have. Black Americans needs to start seeing ourselves as part of the world and not just some "minority". This forum is so centered around "the hood" and I just can't identify that, and as time goes on and progress is made, most black folk won't be able to identify with that. These people have all this money and influence and power, but they think in such limited ways, that nothing changes.
And I have to just reiterate, Tavis went out like a wimp to me. That Barbara Walters interview he gave his girl Hillary was just beyond the pale. Accountability my behind!
1 - Wal-Mart (on whose board of directors Hillary sat while first lady of Arkansas) is sponsoring his mega-five-city (big $$$) museum tour.
2 - Bill Clinton is (shamelessly) hawking his latest book on Tavis's website.
3 - Tavis thinks his *movement* (The "so-called" Covenant) is more important than Barack's *movement* to be America's first REAL black president. If you recall, last year's SOTBU was marred, yes marred, by the attacks launched by the panelists (Jackson, West and Dyson spring to mind) against Obama -and supported by Tavis - BECAUSE on that same day Barack Obama was announcing his presidential candidacy in Illinois, rather than at their bullshit-psycho-babble-I-ain't-really-a-black-leader-but-I-play-one-on-TV fest.
For nine years, Tavis has insisted that he's our guide to salvation - if we buy his books. Frankly, as a dear friend pointed out, Tavis is like the guy at the laundromat selling socks from a garbage bag. Truth is, I've already got socks. And they'll be dry in 10 minutes. Don't try and sell me something I do not need.
Tavis is a loser. The Q&A; with Hillary was pathetic. He's definitely not a journalist. But he did spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express.
Ouch... and LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
It's called STACKING THE DECK.
Tell it, Rev. Al.
Tell it.

Some people seem to think that Sheila Jackson-Lee is in a safe Congressional district.
I think she, and Stephanie should get a primary challenger in 2010, especially while they sling members like Cynthia McKinney under the bus; dissing Donna Edwards before she even sets foot on Capitol Hill, while toting Missy's water and telling us to STHU about it, get back on that plantation and vote for Miz Hillary.
Sharpton reminded while he's not on Obama's bandwagon, he's not deaf to the racial baiting engaged by the Clinton campaign. To change the rules on the delegates after they broke them demonstrates this heifer wants the nomination, no matter what the voters say and I think, because Sharpton has no dog in the race, he's free to really make it uncomfortable for the Borg Queen.
After twenty years of this country being run by someone named Bush or Clinton, it's time for them to go, and I resent the assumption that Hillary was going to get the nomination by virtue of being married to Bill.
If anything, that might be the one factor that takes her down in the whole thing until 2012.
From the looks on the crowd, and especially in New Orleans, those three women should be lucky the audience didn't bum rush the stage.
And Tavis dissing those college kids didn't help him either. Why in the hell didn't he have those kids from Prarie View on stage to talk about how they marched in protest of their right to vote?

EXCUSE ME BLACK DEMOCRATS!!
You say "change the rules"?
Didn't the CEO of the National Association For the Advancement of Colored people WRITE A LETTER to his beloved DEMOCRATIC PARTY suggesting that the people of Florida and Michigan should not be disenfranchised with their vote in the "Black General Election" known as the Democratic Primary?
Why does Sharpton attempt to make this a CONSPIRACY BY WHITE FOLKS against this Black candidate when you have ESTABLISHMENT NEGROES working in cahoots to stick the knife in?
