Jack and Jill Politics: NBC Tricked You

Could it be that the "man" fears a brotha throwing down in legit fashion? Cause that image sure messes up the MSM's image of brothas they see being roused by the Po-Po on shows like "Cops" and "The first 48 Hours" on A & E.

That's the only explanation. That, and serving to keep Black men and Women divided and competing, instead of uniting and providing as a team.

Or could it be that there's a segment of the African American male population that really doesn't give a damn about anything beyond rims, diamonds, and PS3s....and that there's a segment of the African American female population that wants to get out and get for themselves?

It's both, in my opinion. Much of America chooses to view Black males through the prism of crime and illegitimacy. The MSM is well aware of this. As such, educated, productive and law-abiding Black men of goodwill are an offense to those peoples' understandings and "sensibilities" of things. In other words, a good brotha doesn't sell well.

On the other hand, there's a sizeable population of Black males who ain't about nothin'; who aren't reachable; and who are intent on sociopathy.

I am a little surprised by how negatively this report was viewed. I mean here is NBC news profiling a black woman who has graduated from Stanford and is starting her business. Yet, everyone is mad because they threw in some stats on black men???

I just thought it was great that they were showing a black person doing well for themselves, regardless if it was a man or woman.

I am a black man who is currently finishing up my undergrad and you know what? WHen I look around campus I don't see too many other bothas.

I think we should stop nitpicking how the media presents our community and start dealing with those statistics, because like it or not, they are real.

I don't think that you have to point out that black women are doing better than black men to point out they are doing well. The comparison is unsolicited. Would a documentary on Hillary Clinton point out gender discrepancies in grades between male and female whites in grade school?

d...you remind me of uncle ruckus.

That's fairly f'd up (not to mention I had to research that). Hell, it's also a little funny.

But it's also inaccurate. Because I think there's a segment of the African American population that really can't seem to get anything right, I now hate my race (and by virtue of that hate, myself)?

There was a post on another blog that said they thought this was going to be a way to discredit Black women. I did reply that I thought they'd find a way to bash Black men.

    I see I was right.

    Sigh.

I'm just giving you a hard time d.

I do think it's more complex than just "segments of the population do this". Playstation, and diamonds are pretty popular in scarsdale too. Materialism and immaturity are as vague and inadequate as explanations for the achievement gap as "racism".

So, my husband and I were talking this g about the murder of Sean Taylor. Hubby predicts that before it is all over, it will be Sean's fault that he got murdered.

Lo and behold, just flipped past CNN @ 8:40 EST and what do I see? Blowhard white guy pontificating on why can't these guys just cut the ties to their thugghish past? Some older brother (cause hey we all have to eat) Dr. Edwards?-the foremost authority on what???- was there to explain why black athletes can't leave their thuggish past behind.

My husband was right...and yes black women will get the shot end via NBC.

After the rhetoric dies down the facts remain. Focus on them and take action to bring about change. The truth hurts. Period.

The opinions are noted, however, that FACTS remain. Seventy percent of AA children are born to single mothers...that's a fact.
