Stephanie Tubbs Jones used the opportunity to light into the guy and the idea that Obama lacks substance. It was kind of a GOTCHA moment for the Clinton camp.
jon
thank you, jack, for this post and all the facts that went into it.
You knew and I knew and many others knew that this information was available on the website and I believe a matter of public record.
Things are about to really get ugly - that was nothing. I watch CNN and MSNBC daily and have watched hater after hater make the no substance claim when they too know full well it's not true, but if they can get it out to the unknowing masses via the media then their jobs are done.
There are many who do not want to see this man as president and will stop at nothing to make sure he doesn't become president. This is specifically why Senator Obama has asked us to help.
No weapon formed will prosper; not with us helping to watch his back!
Keep posting.
I went off on her and she tried to pull the classic, "Can you name something he has done or one of his accomplishments?" and of course I laid it out for her by answering her question and then some. I would never try and step up as an advocate for Obama if I didnt know my facts. Others should make sure that they do the same.
Love the blog...
college, in this country? Damn.
Good on you ready to bat that crap down.
Great post Jack , you are right and I need to brush up on my knowledge in case I have a Derrick opportunity. Lol!
Since you intend for this post to be widely disseminated, I'm writing both to thank you for the information and to help you with a typo. The term is spelled "shoo-in." I am not one of those obnoxious people who corrects typos for the sake of playing "gotcha" but you should take a lot of pride in this blog post for the facts in it and I thought you would want it to be perfect.
Again, thank you for a great post.
The email only gives Hillary credit for bills where she was the original sponsor and have also been signed into law. Here are the facts. In her time in the Senate, Hillary has sponsored 21 bills that have become law including:
— a bill that extended the availability of unemployment assistance.
— a bill which established a program to assist family caregivers.
— a bill that provided benefits to public safety officers who were killed or injured during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
But Hillary's accomplishments in the Senate are not limited to bill sponsorships. Among her many other legislative accomplishments:
— Hillary worked with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to expand access to health care for the National Guard and Reserve.
— Hillary passed an amendment that created a national program for teacher and principal training and recruitment.
— Hillary used Senate rules to force the Bush administration to make emergency contraception, also known as Plan B, available over the counter.
Meanwhile, the email gives Sen. Obama credit for every bill he introduced or signed on as a co-sponsor, whether or not they became law. The reality is, since Sen. Obama joined the Senate (applying the same standard the email applies to Hillary) he has sponsored two bills that have become law:
— a bill that sought to promote democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
— a bill that named a post office.

i agree there is an email circulating that grossly confuses the legislative record of both candidates, but you have done nothing to clarify this issue and instead have injected further misinformation. That's something we cannot allow here.
I appreciate the info in this post but I am looking for specific instances where Obama has challenged the far left of his party on these issues: the war, terrorist survelliance, taxes, immigration, education reform, energy independence, wasteful spending and Social Security reform.
As Obama has bowed to the criticism of 'style over substance' I have listened to his policy speeches and I do fear that he is more liberal than I first assumed.
While he is quick to call out center-right and right-wing lobbyists and special interests, does he have the political and moral courage to stand up to the NEA on vouchers, to the environmentalists on energy independence, to the anti-war, pull out of Iraq now, MoveOn crowd and other lobbyists of the far left? I haven't seen it yet...but I can 'hope' can't I?
In defense of 'just the facts'
Senator Obama was a co-sponsor of both the bills you mentioned. He was the first co-sponsor but he was not the original sponsor.(on the Coburn bill, Obama, McCain and Carper were all original co-sponsors) I assume the false email he/she was talking about did not included any bills that Clinton was an original co-sponsor for.

This is what Obama is running on.
Shouldn't you be demonstrating the record of CHANGE that this man has under his belt.
As far as I am concerned he has gone from voting "Present" on CONTROVERSIAL legislation in Illinois over to wanting to be "President".
I have called the man as such a long time ago - you see Mr. Obama knows how to tell his supporters WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR. He has a problem telling his supporters WHAT THEY NEED TO HEAR. Such was the case during the Democratic Debate in which Wolf Blitzer asked him about his viewpoint on drivers licenses for Illegals.
Mr. Obama, I can imagine saw the little eyes of millions of Mexicans in America saying "Please don't trample upon us". Mr. Obama didn't disappoint. He fumbled the question rather than offend.
What he (and the rest of the Congressional Black Caucus) HAVE FAILED TO ADDRESS is the impact of Illegal Immigration on BLACK PEOPLE!!
The empty, anti-corporate rhetoric that Mr. Obama is quick to spout when it comes to immigration is not going to employ one single Black person nor does it cut to the chase - there is a bit of a zero sum game when it comes to the labor markets in the short term. The Black worker has been the disproportionate VICTIMS.
When will some of you MOVE DEEPER than your whimsical thoughts of a BLACK PRESIDENT and instead LOOK AT HOW THE BLACK COMMUNITY HAS BEEN IMPACTED BY THE PROGRESSIVE POLICIES THAT ARE OFTEN HOSTILE TO THE "CONSUMERS OF LABOR".
Why isn't Detroit and Cleveland - both 80% Democratic Cities not SHOWCASES for the BLACK BEST INTERESTS when they ALREADY HAVE "Obama-like" policies in place?
Instead you all are able to blame the OLD SCHOOL DEMOCRATS and see Obama as a new force.
PLEASE! He has a 97% Democratic Voting record. What exactly is he CHANGING FROM? His voting record of 2007?
