Jack and Jill Politics: Obama Adopted into Crow Nation

Totally OT: But, the money filings are due tomorrow. We'll see just how much Hillpatine is truly in debt for, and how much she lied when she said she raised 10 million post PA.

As one of your "First American" friends... the best part of the speech he gave was this.....

“Few have been ignored by Washington for as long as native Americans – the first Americans,” said Mr. Obama, telling this crowd that he intended to appoint a Native American adviser to his highest ranks of his administration if he wins. He also vowed to improve the health care and education opportunities on reservations across the nation.

    Good! I like that!

""Where I grew up there weren't a lot of black families, so I know what it feel like to be an outsider," said Obama. "Now that I'm a member of the family I won't break my commitment to my brothers and sisters.":"

    How real was this statement.

Native American youth have a high rate of suicide due to hopelessness....having a president who would elevate "First American" issues such as this makes me want to cry. As president, it makes sense that the "hopemonger president" could do something no other American president has done or sincerely tried to do for us Firsst Americans.

We usually get lip service during campaigns and then afterwards...nothing.

I doubt this will help Barack with his cynical Black critics. His Blackness is being questioned (again, as usual, as so idiotically typical) over his position re: the Cherokee Freedmen; his lack of support for the attempt by the House to cut funding to Cherokee's who moved to expel the Freedmen.

I'm of many minds on this. Regardless, I view Obama's adoption as a very positive thing.

Side thought 1: Obama's legislation/support for Black farmer's has been equally as positive in terms of giving voice to issues of long-term neglect.

Side thought 2: I wonder how president Barack would respond to UN human rights findings regarding racism impacting Native Americans and African-Americans.

I am watching the video of his speech!

    Angela-

I wrote a paper comparing Native American youth and Black youth, the term nihilism was a central theme. Pretty sad.

    Ms. Martin,

Last Fall, I believe it was, the Cherokee Nation moved to expel its Black 'members' by reverting back to an old US gov't document which discriminated against Blacks with Cherokee "blood" while at the same time including "Whites" with much smaller quantities of Cherokee blood.

The issue is over benefits tribe members get, let alone the denial of the Freedmen's heritage.

I'm no authority on this but that's the way I understand the issue. The whole issue is in court now and Obama's position is to let that process play out. What's problematic about his position is how he has cautioned against interfering in tribal affairs which is, IMO, solid principle but, to me, it has a states' right-ish feel to it.

So obviously members of congress including CBC members ramp up on that rhetoric and, rightly or wrongly, it makes Obama looks like he isn't that concerned about "black issues."

Wikipedia has a decent entry on the issue.

Native American youth and Black youth... nihilism

Native Americans, about the only group comparable to African-Americans in terms of the scope and degree of physical and cultural oppression faced (though their genocidal extermination is akin to the Jewish Holocaust), never get mentioned as the Model Minority of the Month when people want to disparage our failure to assimilate. I wonder why...

Thinking about Native Americans government-to-government relations, as problematic as it is (i.e. the US gov't keeping its treaty agreements)... highlights what I once seen described about America's racial hierarchy of "hate" with Blacks as the "paradigmatic" other. White(ness) is defined, finds its meaning, etc. in the negative - i.e. not being Black.

Could you imagine how crazed White folks would be if Black folks had some type of nation status and not only benefited from affirmative action (which is just like welfare; whites benefit too/more) but received "race-based" tuition waivers?

You hear racist crap about casinos, etc. but nothing about that.

Well he should not interfere while the case is in court. If he's in a position to negotiate with all parties afterwards then I'm sure he will. The Cherokees are trying to deny status to a chunk of people who are biracial or Black and claim Cherokee heritage. It seems like the Cherokees are particularly insular about this. Both of my great-mothers were Cherokee, so I know there was a lot of relationships between Blacks and Cherokees. I don't think they should engage in openly discriminatory practices and still receive federal funding.
  • Nquest · 1 year ago
That's exactly the issue. Congress or at least the House is trying to pass a resolution to stop funding the tribe(s) while the issue is in court and Obama is receiving criticism over his stance for not agreeing with stopping funding now.

And Obama supporters will naively pay every dime of it, which is the entire purpose of Dean's newly created JOINT fundraising venture. There is some poetic justice for Hillary supporters that the Obama supporters will pay the bills for prolonged damage to their candidate's chances of actually winning the general.

I read a blogger touting the fund as having Barack's back but that kind of ignorance neglects that Hillary's name is also part of the fund which means that money put in can also go to her. Hillary's name doesn't need to be on the fund for her to help raise money, just as Gore's name is not on it. However, by law her name must be on it in order to use the funds, especially for disbursement of $30 million to pay her debts.

That's why I'm holding off on giving to Obama's campaign until the democratic nominee is determined. I refuse to pay for Clinton to continue to get her middle-aged white women whipped up into a frenzy.

    nquest:

I wrote the Cherokee nation when I heard about this last year. I think we should wait to see what the courts decide. But if the courts uphold the Cherokee decision, I think the freemen should be allowed to sue the Cherokee nation for reparations. Perhaps this is why Obama isn't getting involved because he wants to see how litigation plays out.

    Barack Black Eagle...heeee!
I'm betting those 'hard-working Americans' are just in a fit right about now.

People are now coming together for Obama and it makes me wonder about the Clinton supporters. I am not one to fan racial fears and such. The more I read and hear from white female Clinton supporters, the more I think these women are dangerous to the Democratic party. Their mindset is: if Hillary isn't the nominee, I will just vote Republican! This are the voting bloc that expects to be pandered and coddled.

As an aside, the Cherokee Freedmen just did not include the bi/multi-racial members but also the slaves that the Cherokee kept. I think for alot of them, having to acknowledge the evil of slave owning as a oppressed people might be a bit too much.
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
The thing that bothers me about Hillary supporters are that they are totally ignoring the vote and blaming her loss on sexism.

If they can't have a woman as the nominee, then they don't want a black man as the nominee.

Gerry Ferraro goes out of her way to say that Obama is sexist and now that she is being questioned, offers up meaningless descriptions of that sexism, yet she fails to point out when McCain allowed a supporter to call her a bitch.

HRC/supporters and Republicans v. Barack Obama. Sad.

If their party won't take this thing away from a black man with across the board support, then they will work with the other party.

I am just digusted with the superdelegates.

Unfortunately, I fear the folks of the Crow Nation were used! Barack H. Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States. In fact, research is now revealing that he was born in Kenya and his mother registered his birth in Hawaii after the fact. Unfortunately, this "adoption" by the Crow Nation was likely an attempt to cover his tracks legally since some form of "natural born citizenship" is conveyed. Can someone enlighten me on this?

However, when it is revealed that Obama was not even a US Citizen before May, 2008, he will still be guilty of fraud by virture of his service as Senator illegally. I highly recommend that Crow Nation officials check into their liability in this circumstance and not allow themselves to be used at some point in the future.
