We "cut and ran" then (even earned the "paper tiger" label from bin Laden), and weren't too willing to go back. Just my thoughts.

Re: Obama Draws Crowd of 75,000 in Oregon

Komack,
Been there, done that. However, I can't support that from this statement. A real problem I'm having is people have the attitude that if you criticize the country in any way (especially if you are non-white), you are "unpatriotic." If you question the country in any way, you are "unpatriotic." We saw it after 9/11, we saw it when this idiotic war started. Sounds more like the Soviet Union than the United States.

Iraq is an "unwinnable" war. There will never be any "victory" in Iraq because the goalposts for "victory" keep changing. Why are we there? Because of WMDs? There were none at the time we charged in, so why are we still there? To rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein? He's dead and gone, so why are we still there? To fight the terrorists? But they weren't in Iraq to begin with, they were and are in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Why are we still in Iraq? Nobody can give a clear answer as to why we are still there, which is why Iraq is an unwinnable war. McShame just said we "might" win in 2013. That means we'll have been in Iraq for 10 years. I guess there's still 90 years to go, huh?

But back to Michelle and her so-called lack of patriotism. I see nothing in the past few years to be proud of:

Letting thousands of American citizens die in floods, heat, etc. while you and your buddies sit around eating birthday cake?

25% of American adults are functionally illiterate?

The deficit has been ran up to the extreme?

Our hardworking American troops do not have the health care or equipment they need? Or trying to shut down their benefits when they come home?

The dollar is falling faster than a weave on a hot summer day?

Re: Obama Draws Crowd of 75,000 in Oregon

Ronnie,
I doubt seriously that this has less to do with Michelle as a black woman that it does with her showing a side that could be taken as being unpatriotic.

Well if she's proud of her country, what does it matter how or when she developed that pride? This is politics. They knew-or, benefit of the doubt, should have known-what they were getting into, and the type of scrutiny they would both face. That is the nature of the business-however unfortunate it may be.

D~

All things being equal, you'd be right. But the salient point is that all things aren't equal. And that's why Barack flexed on some of those Repubs. Being critical of her political ideology is perfectly fair. But some of these people exploit the opportunity to belittle and demean a Black woman who has the audacity to buck her prescribed role, and speak without prompting.

Barack knows that they will do whatever possible to exploit people's stereotypical perceptions of over-bearing, big-mouthed Black women. And it was high time that he spoke up.

Re: Obama Draws Crowd of 75,000 in Oregon

We have seen the Obama camp play fast and loose with the identity and role of its advisors. Robert Malley really wasn’t one, we were told. Zbigniew Brzezinski really isn’t that important, we’re assured. Austan Goolsbee really isn’t an official spokesman, you see. All of this sets up a fog of unaccountability and makes it virtually impossible to determine whether conflicts of interest exist, and more importantly who has the ear of the presumptive nominee. So much for a new era of transparency.

In the case of supposedly tainted legislative actions, the McCain camp has scrambled to demonstrate that McCain acted independently of any lobbying influence, in keeping with his own policy viewpoints and/or as part of a bipartisan effort. (Somehow we don’t hear much about Obama’s $1M earmark for his wife’s employer.) But Obama hasn’t done much of anything in Washington and hasn’t sponsored or participated in many legislative battles small or large. So his hands and his associations in Washington can remain relatively pristine. And he’s attempted to transform his paucity of experience into an advantage. McCain is a “creature of Washington,” he says. But what is he? What is his comparable record of accomplishment? What are the means by which we can assess his ability to withstand illicit influence?

This is an issue worth discussing. A the rest is just a 'distraction.'

Obama and his willing supporters in the media continue to gloss over gaffes and deflect serious scrutiny.

Michelle and Cindy are really insignificant when compared to the serious issues we face in this election.

Re: Obama Draws Crowd of 75,000 in Oregon

ARP,

I know!
