Jack and Jill Politics: Obama Expresses ‘Deep Disappointment’ in McCain’s Silence on Wife Attacks

  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
"If Sen. Obama seriously is thinking about picking Sen. Clinton as his running mate, these numbers might cause him to reconsider. The people who really matter come November - independent voters - turn thumbs down on the idea. And, many say they are less likely to vote for him if he puts her on the ticket," - Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Okaaay. Well I don't agree that Barack has 'vigorously' defended Michelle. He certainly let a LOT of things go during the primary. I have yet to hear him denounce Bill O'Liely for the lynching comments. I do find it interesting that he is being more proactive NOW and I agree he should call out McCain. But he doesn't get kudos for it. It's what he's supposed to be doing! If he had not I would have had a difficult time supporting him.

A Rasmussen Reports national survey released last week found that 42 percent of voters viewed Michelle Obama unfavorably while 48percent viewed her favorably. The same poll found that 29 percent viewed Cindy McCain unfavorably and 49 percent viewed her favorably. The poll of 1,000 likely voters had a margin of error of 3 points.

It appears as if some Americans prefer "pill poppin piece on the side" to Michelle...and may i add husband stealing AND pill stealing..2 things she could have bought other than stole..and yes I am implying that she could have "bought" another man- a single one! As well as paid off a doctor to give her those pills rather than steal them but apparently she has an affinity for steal recipes, men, and drugs!

LOL Well please keep calling her that. She went out of her way to jump on the bash Michelle bandwagon with the prod comment. The following week I had the pleasure of watching Mrs. McCain squirm as her husband had to deny anything improper happened between him and that female lobbyist.

Show Mrs Mc.... I mean Pill Poppin Piece On The Side the same consideration she showed Michelle, which was nothing.

Overheated rhetoric and personal attacks on our opponents distract from the big differences between John McCain's vision for the future of our nation and the Democrats'. This campaign is about John McCain: his vision, leadership, experience, courage, service to his country and ability to lead as commander in chief from day one.

Throughout his life John McCain has held himself to the highest standards and he will continue to run a respectful campaign based on the issues. We expect that all supporters, surrogates and staff will hold themselves to similarly high standards when they are representing the campaign.

I think that's all that needs to be said. It's not like McCain's saying the stuff himself-and not like the hand's of Obama's supporters are completely clean themselves.

You want to take on the right wing with this, so be it....but it distracts from things that are more important, and it's a battle you may well not win.

For every "pill poppin piece on the side" from Rikyrah, I will try to post an article that casts Cindy McCain in a positive light (not that they'll actually get read or anything).

    Let's start with the basics.
  • khal02 · 1 year ago
    D,

SMH at a supposedly black man going out of his way to defend a white woman while a black woman is publicly getting raked over the coals. Cindy McCain doesn't need you to defend her because she the cable news isn't running anything negative about her in a constant loop. Can you honestly say that if Michelle Obama had the past Cindy McCain had she would be treated in kind by the legal system and the country in general? You are a joke and an embarassment.
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
I remain ambivalent about Barack's deafening silence regarding the lynching remarks.
  • D. · 1 year ago
    khal02,
You're asking that if Michelle Obama had an addiction to painkillers and might have stole someone else's husband, would she get the same kind of treatment?

I think she'd be thrown under the bus.

What's been the talk about Cindy McCain here lately: stealing recipes, popping pills, and supposedly stealing husbands. I can't defend the first two; they happened. The third is open to interpretation, but even I can see how people come to that conclusion.

My problem with Michelle has never been what she said, but how she said it-and why someone didn't tell her not to say it that way. But what's the really point in bring up Cindy everytime Michelle slips up?

I'm going to present an alternative viewpoint, just like I normally do. I could refer to Michelle from some of the statements she's made-as has been done before-but that's a waste of time.

Michelle Obama needs to understand that if she chooses to make controversial statements in a public setting, then there is a chance that those words will be used against her. The lynching pic was over the line and unacceptable, but there is nothing wrong with people with questioning her in other areas.

Bottom line - it's just politics, and it's something that she'll have to learn.
  • APeach · 1 year ago
Craig, I understand where you're coming from, but I can also understand leaving it alone, too. I felt like O'Loofah was deliberately baiting him. You know how self-important that loud-mouthed clown thinks he is.
  • khal02 · 1 year ago
    D,

What's a waste of time is your going out of your way to defend a millionaire white woman who has had the world given to her while being complicit in tearing down a black woman who has worked hard to get everything she has. I'm trying to imagine my father, a black man with a black wife and three black daughters going out of his way to defend a white woman with a shady past before he would defend the person most similar to the women in his life....and I cannot. So your "alternative viewpoint" is that of a black man being more supportive of Cindy McCain than Michelle Obama on a black blog and to that I say... you lose in the eyes of this black woman.
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
apeach, I keep telling myself that Michelle encouraged Barack to leave the bait alone.
  • D. · 1 year ago

I'm confident that Mrs. Obama doesn't need to be condescendingly "schooled" by you or anyone else. She's well aware of the desire to attack her. She's well aware that she's not the typical blonde and blue-eyed first lady candidate. And she's well aware of the racist and bigoted lampooning that will come her way.

She's not complaining. It's those of us Black folk who were the intended "collateral" targets. And we aren't running for office, so not only do we have every right to speak out, we have the duty to do so.

So if anyone needs to be schooled, it's you ... cameron.
  • Sandra77 · 1 year ago
Cameron, if the attacks on Michelle Obama are "just politics", then why isn't Cindy McCain being attacked for her past behavior? Your position that "it's just politics, get used to it" is, in this case, a refuge for scoundrels. If one is fair game, then so is the other. So why the free pass for Cindy McCain?
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Obama might have had a leg to stand on this if he hadn't remained utterly silent while the mainstream media launched one sexist attack after another on his rival.

And please don't even start with the "but she deserved it" crap. Opposing sexism--or racism, or homophobia--is a full commitment, not a case-by-case basis kind of activism. And every time we remain silent and let it slide because of A,B, and C, we only strengthen the haters' hand for the next time around.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
There seems to be a double standard when dealing with both women. Every statement that comes out of Michelle's mouth is parsed by the MSM. I mean they are poring over her college thesis and attempting to make her a black radical. For weeks Obama received criticism for his "bitter" remark, yet there has been no firestorm for people like Christopher Hitchens or the clowns at Fox News, for attempting to portray Michelle as a bitter and angry black woman. And to back up a point made by someone else, if Michelle had the rather seedy history of Cindy McCain, those facts would be on a permanent loop on every 24 hour cable news show from Fox to CNN. If Michelle is responsible for her words (no matter how intentionally misconstrued and mischaracterized they have been) then Cindy McCain is responsible for hers. And frankly I find it somewhat offensive that the same people who are criticizing Michelle are attempting to deflect any criticism or censure of Cindy.

seriously, it is real nice to see how well things are starting now that the psycho hillary is gone. several new state polls that are real encouraging...including florida. did i miss obama promising the retirees that he would nuke iran? anyhow the media is on board. the history is writing itself. obama is in charge of the message. HE IS REALLY GOING TO WIN! SWEEEETTT! sorry to celebrate so early but i'm just saying it is going to happen and it is huge.

i was talking to some college friends who aren't so politically obssessed as me last night. i was explaining how the internet was so important. and it really is. more and more people are watching their computer not their tv. the message and information is impossible to control on the internet. it really is the empowerment of the people.
  • andyfrombrooklyn · 1 year ago
and the conversation on the internet forces the tv to acknowledge reality. see olberman, stewart, and colbert. i was saying that stealing an election like in 2000 would have been much, much harder.

Too bad. Michelle should take repsonsibility for the statements she makes while campaigning. She's supposed to get a free pass on whatever the hell she wants to say, and then invoke "spousal immunity" if her remarks are criticized?

    Bullshit.

I seem to recall a lot of Obamatons - and Obama himself - condemning Bill Clinton 24/7 during the Dem primary.

He wasn't off limits, but somehow Michelle is?

Me thinks Barry is a major hypocrite.

    PZOUT,

Michelle invoked no "spousal immunity". What makes you think she hasn't taken responsibility? If your idea of responsibility is admitting to saying something she didn't say, then you would be disappointed.

There's a difference in honest criticism and partisan demonizing. Do you really believe that Michelle Obama wants the destruction of the USA?
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
of course that one does, truthseeker.

without that belief, that world falls completely apart.
  • andyfrombrooklyn · 1 year ago
anonymous circle jerk is right. obama must apologise for me saying that cindy has vampire eyes.
  • The Christian Progressive Libe · 1 year ago
    Okay, he's disappointed.

So when is he going to pull McCain to a corner of the Senate chambers like he did Lieberman and give him the "Lay off my wife before I get in that ass" talk?

He'd better learn how to take the gloves off and fight strategically because McCain is too old to be tactful or tactical and every time he brings up Michelle, Obama better start responding with:

"It's an accomplishment that Cindy overcame her addictions, but won't being First Lady be a risk in reactivating them?"

Straight talk for the Pill-Poppin'-Piece-On-The-Side, in gentlemanly fashion. And as dumb as Fox Noise is, it will take them two days of discussion and dissecting before they come back with a bigoted retort.
  • heartsandflowers · 1 year ago
That's nice of Obama to take the high road - it's what makes him different. That does not mean Wifey #2 gets a pass! McCain could tell his rethug cronies and Faux News to stand down but he won't so we must not roll over, think other people will see through the noise or be critical thinkers. It's about being proactive.
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
Cindy has dead eyes because there is no life left there. McCrankie has sucked it all out of her.

All that the pills and alchohol haven't that is.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Wow. Bringing up McCain's wife's past drug abuse. Gee, that's all like "racist" and shit, ain't it?
At least I seem to recall a whole hell of a lot of people squawking "RACISM" when somebody dared to mention The Almighty Barack's past drug abuse (cocaine and pot), and his current addiction to nicotine. And that wasn't the spouse, that was the candidate.

More hypocrisy from The Cult of Obama.

BTW, Barry might want to shut his race-baiting mouth with his demands for McCain to denounce this or that "attack". I seem to recall Obama lying through his teeth repeatedly, attacking McCain for wanting "100 years of war in Iraq." How about apologizing for that giant fib, Barry, before you get all pious and shit about "poor me and my wife"?

Obama needs to walk the talk a bit before he starts bitching about his campaigner-in-chief wife's own words being used against her.
  • miss-opinion · 1 year ago
I'd pay attention to that comment but I just swallowed my daily dose of Cult Juice. I have to wait a few hours for my brain to function.

  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
Well, this means they must be terrified of Michelle. Clearly, she's a tremendous asset to the campaign if they're going after her like this. They keep trying to say it's because she talks policy why she's fair game. But I don't think so, she's being attacked because she's an asset.

Mary Berry is a fool if she thinks the solution is to make Michelle more like Cindy. If Cindy was worth a damn to the campaign, they would have her out there stumping her behind off instead of making snide remarks on talk shows. Surprise, surprise Joan Walsh from Salon said she didn't think it was classy of Cindy to go there again:

    http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id=86975fe6-930d-4e39-94ed-d2e3486422d2

(dunno if anyone can access this redlasso clip)

Michelle is fit, vital, smart, she looks amazingly young and fresh, almost girlish. She can raise two daughters and do a mean stump speech without breaking a sweat. She and the girls make Barack look good. She's the ultimate superwoman. Of course they're going to attack her.

  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
Sure you're right she's an asset Truthseeker.

Joy Behardt (sp) was on Larry King singing Michelle's praises. She said she liked her before the show and she likes her even more now; she said she likes both of them.

A viewer emailed and asked if the ladies hung out and chatted after the show and Joy said that Michelle was really fun and she hung out and took pictures with the staff and the really loved her. She said even the Repub staff wanted pictures with her. She said Cindy McCain was more conservative and said nothing more about her chatting after the show.

Joy reiterated that Michelle was beautiful, extremely intelligent and very easy to talk to at the same time.

Of course Michelle is an asset she is well-rounded; she's intelligent, beautiful, stylish, a great mother and she and Barack (who I am still very angry with) are clearly partners at ease and working in a natural unison.

I haven't seen a couple in the political arena who can touch them on the things that are so "important" to America.

Well, your opinion has been duly noted. I'm sorry you don't like my opinion, but rest assured that I won't lose sleep over it. In the meantime, the fact still remains that she will be open to criticism as becomes more vocal in the public area. And the same goes for Cindy. A while ago, she was all indignant about releasing her tax forms... saying that she will "never release them." Guess what showed up on Drudge a few days later?

There is ZERO room for misspeaking in the YouTube era. Hillary Clinton learned that lesson with her Bosnia comment. I'm hoping Michelle doesn't suffer that same fate.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Hey, Barry. If you don't want your wife's remarks to be criticized, don't send her out on the campaign trail and have stump for you, idiot. Otherwise, she's fair game, just like Bill Clinton was.

  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
    anon 10:18,

I know now, that you don't like Michelle.

I'm a gonna tell you this. Cindy needs to get off whatever diet she's on, take calcium supplements, protein shakes, add some fat to her diet and lift some damn weights! Maybe if she does that for 6 months, I wouldn't get that sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach when I see her walk...that she's going to snap an ankle any second! The thought of that bone jutting through her skin on the tarmac makes me want to curl into a fetal position, close my eyes and rock back and forth. In Cindy's case, less isn't more. The low muscle, low bone density look is creeping me out!

Michelle is 43!...she looks 30! She is an image of health and strength. Her mere presence sends a positive message, never mind what she has to say.

Contrast that with the picture of a disabled elderly man, cancer survivor and his wife who has suffered a stroke and was addicted to narcotics. No offense intended to the elderly or disabled, or addicted.

But if you agree that the image of strength and capability matters, Americans are receiving that subconscious message loud and clear!

Attack away...the more she's attacked, the more convinced I am she's Obama's "Goose that laid the Golden Egg".
