My prayer is that the omnipotent power of all these different religions keep our President and his family safe from all harm and continue to give him the wisdom he so needs now. From whom all knowledge flows. There are troublesome and destructive forces out there and the surge is just beginning!

I agree with you. I am so happy to see all sides of the American experience showcased at the White House. For once we get to see things that I certainly never knew about because it was so forced upon us in past; what was representative of America. These are exciting times for me. I had to wait until I was an old woman to get to see this kind of thing in America. I'm very proud of the this.

I love this about Obama. There are many rich traditions that come from all corners of the world. I think I will spend part of my day thinking of the year that is past and what is to come. May everyone's upcoming year be much better and more loved filled than the one that past.

Our diversity as a nation is a strength, there are some wonderful things to learn about other traditions and we should celebrate our diversity. Of course, it is smart politics too (for Democrats).

Anyway, thanks for posting this. I called my wife (Hindu Indian-American, Bengali speaking) and played part for her over the phone. She's thrilled and we are looking forward to watching this later together with our daughter.

As a Christian married to a Hindu I try to learn what I can but Hinduism is still very much of a mystery to me. Yet some common things are quite surprising. Some pieces of the Gita sound so much like the Book of Wisdom for example. Also, some branches of Hinduism to me appear to be monotheistic and even centered upon faith in a "living God". Hinduism seems to me though to be more diverse than Christianity.

I'm definitely down with cross-cultural celebrations. This one's just as cool. My neighborhood has many people of Indian culture, and who share it with us all the time.
