Jack and Jill Politics: Obama Leads Among Black Voters In SC

The only way that Kerrey's apology means anything, is if it comes with and upon further reflection, I've decided to withdraw my endorsement of Hillary Clinton, and have asked Senator Obama if he will accept my endorsement of him for President of the United States.

Otherwise, Kerrey's "apology" letter is simply taking one for the team.

What's really sad here is that I don't recall-and someone correct me if I'm wrong-Obama HIMSELF ocming out and saying he was offended. If that were the case, there'd be a point for this apology.

And now, his apology gets twisted to prove a point.

Would that we returned to the days where someone could make their point and not be criticized into an apology....and then be questioned on the sincerity of same.

Seems like there are some similiarites between the left and the Right: anyone can say what they want, but no one can be critical of what was said.

Timbaland has a top-ten hit called "apologize,"...

You tell me that you need me

Then you go and cut me down

    But wait...

You tell me that you're sorry

Didn't think I'd turn around and say..

That it's too late to apologize, it's too late

I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late

Is it just me? Or is the Clinton campaign coming-off as whining in the MSM? That's what it looks like to me. And if i'm feeling this way, I can only imagine how some anal-retentive iowa caucusers are feeling.

As for the rural Iowans, they're not country bumpkins...and as one good pundit put it...all the truly racist rednecks left the democratic party more than a decade ago.

Obama will win the nomination. The only question is how much damage the Clintons will inflict in the primary...although, I am kind of glad that this test of the race-baiting is playing out right now.

Well, apparently it doesn't matter that Obama didn't call a presser to denounce Kerrey's backhanded comments. Clinton's folks saw that damage control was necessary and likely asked Kerrey to "apologize".

Kerrey wouldn't have done so if the Clinton Corner didn't believe that their low blow would cost them a few points.

Instead, it may end up costing them the fight.

But if Obama wasn't personally offended, why the apology/explanation (call it what you will)? Especially since that everything that was said-at least at face value-seemed to be complimentary, until Obama's supporters started twisting it.

Let me explain this to you: the reason why a racist strategy is so harmful to a Black candidate is BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO WAY OF OPPOSING IT. If they stand up and say, look at those mutherfuckers pulling this racist shit on me, you know what will happen?

Oh, he's just saying that because he's Black.

I've been getting that BS from the so-called Progressive Bloggers on other sites - like they can't string this together and see a pattern.

And, that's part of the Clinton's Southern Strategy - they know it, which is why they're doing it.

Obama is a unique politician. He has built a simple trap to snare this BS, and so far it has worked. He is running against the "Karl Rove politics of the past." So if you attack him, you become Karl Rove, and by default Mr. 23%.

The trap works because Obama has framed the debate in the right way. Any good lawyer knows that it's more how you frame the debate than anything else. Clinton got flat footed, and is not contesting this election on her own terms. Obama's framing works even better in the primary because Clinton's, "The 90's, the 90's, the 90's, except oh yeah, don't remember that about the 90's," reminds people that she is the politics of the past.

So far, Obama has handled this extremely well. He's managed to defend himself from the attacks without getting into the gutter with the Clintons. Since they've pretty much thrown everything they have at Obama, I don't see how it would be any worse in a general election. Further, it's easier to stick the Karl Rove label on people of his own party. The Republicans have problems on that front, and aren't likely to go down that path this time...

As for the progressive "bloggers," I think more than a few of them are Clinton sock puppets and spammers.

Amen Bag of Health and Politics,

Thanks for articulating *O*s strategy so precisely. The "politics of the 90s" is definitely not the "politics of change" as the Clintons pretend it is.

As for the Clinton sock puppets, I think its safe to say that *O* has the implicit (if not explicit) endorsement of...

    dailykos.com

    Arianna Huffington - Huffington Post

    andrewsullivan.com

I've seen a couple of African-American "progressive" bloggers who've remained loyal to Clinton...cause Massa's been so good to them, I guess.

I don't know about who Markos supports, he only says he opposes Clinton. The clear plurality of the people on that site support John Edwards though. Andrew Sullivan clearly does support Obama. Huffington says she supports no one, but is clearly favorable to Obama.

Finally, I don't know if this is sad or uplifting: 8% of Americans now believe Barack Obama is a Muslim. On the one hand, it's a lot lower than the 65% that thought there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq during the 2004 election, on the other hand that should be reserved to the 2% of the public that are the conspiracy theorists.
  • webber · 2 years ago
Yeah, in those cases, any opposition of Clinton is an implicit endorsement for Obama. They are not clinton sock-puppets.

Edwards is not in contention...You can't champion the fight against poverty and get $400 haircuts simultaneously. The republicans would dice/slice/smother/scatter him asunder.

At the end of the day, people who are legitimately concerned about Obama's heritage should give him a closer look.

If you know what I know, the closer anyone studies Obama, the more they like him.
