I wonder how many of those so called "values voters" will go home with this product and share it with their families and friends?

The racists just can't grow up.
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago
Actually, Independent2008, they are GROWN UP RACISTS!! :>) :>) With NO VALUES!! :>) :>)
  • Nquest · 1 year ago
And they are basking in the media attention. This link (and story) along with one to the Drudge Report, etc. was posted on their site:

"Men from Tennessee traveled to the Values Voter Summit to sell yellow boxes of waffle mix that portray a caricature of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama with a Muslim-like headdress and says "Point box toward Mecca for tastier waffles." The cover of the box portrays a caricature of Obama's face next to waffles, which three protesters from American Atheists found offensive."

... "Barry's Bling Bling Waffle Ring recipe rap"

"Yo, B-rock here droppin' waffle knowledge
Spellin' it out, 'cause I graduated college
Some say I waffle so fast, Barry's causin' whiplash
Just doin' my part, made wafflin' a fine art
For a waffle wit style, like Chicago's Magnificent Mile
Spray whipped cream around the edge
Shake it first like Sister Sledge
Then say wit me, I can be as waffly as I wanna be!
(That goes out to my Ludacris posse)"

Just as racist as their little hearts want to be.

I just listened to Ring of Fire on Air America. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., said that James Dobson chose Sarah Palin. RFK, Jr., said it with such conviction, that I got the impression that it is common knowledge in certain circles. He said the CMP told McBush that they would support him if he chose Palin as his running mate without vetting her first.

How can we find out if this is true?
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
I think it's quite obvious. This wasn't a case of the GOP Female bench being completely empty (like their GOP Black bench is).

There's an entire cadre of credible QUALIFIED GOP Females that McCain could have chosen.

But, they weren't the postergirls for the Religious Right.
It's the ONLY reason she was chosen.

Aww, the wittle wacists are so precious.

They realize that some people don't seem to understand their codes (i.e. Uppity, "overeducated", urban) and figure in order to get the point across they come up with this little ditty.

My first though was "Finally!!! They did it! Something that the press can no longer ignore. This is going to backfire in their faces"...but then reality kicked in. Yeah. We shall see. Like Amy P. said last night in her skit "I invite the press to grow a pair". I really want to see them try and rationalize ignoring this...

Why are you posting that picture dnA? It is truly offensive to me. Why are we promoting/supporting it? I am all for freedom of speech and everything but this is ... I will hit JJP back by Tuesday when I am sure I don't even have to look at this crap.

Couldn't we post the clip of Obama's acceptance speech? Or of one of his rally's or speeches? How does this promote what we Obama/we voters are trying to achieve.

Here is a post from Politico . . . then I am going to make a few calls for Obama the rest of the day . . . .

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13412...

“We recognize it’s not going to be 2000 again,” McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said, alluding to the media’s swooning coverage of McCain’s ill-fated crusade against then-Gov. George W. Bush and the GOP establishment. “But he lost then. We’re running a campaign to win. And we’re not too concerned about what the media filter tries to say about it.”

McCain strategists now have became even more sure of themselves after the picture-perfect reaction — in the GOP’s view — to the decision to put Palin on the ticket. The choice provoked derision from elites, jubilation among conservative voters long skeptical of McCain and uncertainty from Obama about how to respond. If you are a McCain staffer, it doesn’t get better than that — so who cares that the candidate had met her only once and her chief foreign policy credential seems to be that she lives closer to Russia than other Americans.

With polls moving in their direction and a unanimous view in the political world that the fundamentals of the race have changed dramatically in the past few weeks, McCain aides aren’t about to drop a flood-the-zone approach that they believe has worked. “Most people would have been afraid to have called him out on race,” boasted an adviser. “And we’re not going to let sexism or denigration of her go unchecked now.”

On all three counts — their portrayal of Obama as a celebrity, outrage at his purported use of race and his flat-footedness and confusion on how to respond to Palin — McCain aides saw weakness and indecision.

It adds up to a campaign that is now unapologetically aggressive and aimed almost entirely at keeping Obama off-message, even if it means hitting him below the belt in the process.

“Clearly we intend to stay on offense,” Rogers said. “That’s what we need to do because the campaign is fundamentally about him. We feel comfortable about the ads we’re running and arguments we’re making.”

And, given their surge in the polls and Obama’s uncertainty about how to respond to the Palin phenomenon, they’re going to keep it up.

“Every day not talking about the economy, the war and how to fix a broken system is a victory for McCain,” said John Weaver, a former top strategist to the nominee who left the campaign last year. “They’re going to ride it as long as they can and as long as the mainstream media puts up every ridiculous charge.”

The negative and often exaggerated or misleading claims being made about Obama and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, especially those playing on Palin’s gender, are just too irresistible for the process-consumed online and cable news media that now drives the campaign conversation, Weaver said.

“Unless there is a hurricane, they’re going to cover it,” he observed.

Added Terry Nelson, McCain’s former campaign manager: “It works in part because Obama responds to it.”

The same thing that happened back during the primaries when Obama supporters started believing the hype and failed to understand that just because the Repubs and media says its so - IT ISN'T SO.

I felt the same way during the hype of the primaries; the hype that Obama was losing, when in fact, he had alreay won (In February), I felt like I had to find a more upbeat and positive place to share my thoughts and find new inspiration and information.

I really wish that people would review, analyze and cautiously arrive at their conclusions.

I've been watching closely (friends and foes) and what I have determined is that the republicans are fighting for that last breath. Hence Ms. Palin. What they are saying is that McCain can't win so they went to find a gimmic (enter Palin) and probably the candidate that Right Wing control freaks really would like to have as their president so that they can continue the control the control which they have enjoyed over the executive office. With a McCain administration what you will have is another Karl Rove, Dick Cheney run government that has nothing to do with democracy or the well-being of American citizens. They will continue to rape and pillage the American economy and strengthen corporations and stockholders of the corporations while those who have little will end up with even less. A McCain administration which is not even about McCain anymore (I really believe they will find a way to do away with McCain the Maverick) will be another exercise in survival of the fittest - with the fittest given more and more advantages. This is the real issue and that is what we should be worried about and fighting against. We shouldn't be concerned about what they said or are saying, we should be concerned about what they plan to do.

The campaign also added 500,000 new donors during the month.

And, you can't tell me those two rednecks thought up this concept, did the illustrations, did food photography and commercial level grapich design, never mind coming up with somewhat sophisticated (racist, but technically okay) copy. Then packed up all the files and had the packaging created to spec.

This is such a lie. Those two men were lying at every turn. Neither of them had anything to do with this, other than as empty headed mouthpieces.

You know, the thing that bothers me about these absurd caricatures and so on is not the reaction of black people. Its the OVERREACTION by white people. Every time one of these petty, childish taunts appears the white folks in the blogosphere completely lose it and start posting the shit everywhere while registering their outrage. In effect, they end up spreading the smear for the GOP and giving them all kinds of free publicity. We need to stop feeding into the shit and stop reacting to it like we've never seen racist imagery before.

I'll be 48 years old in a couple weeks and trust me I've seen and experienced a whole lot worse than this crap. Its another distraction to knock you off your game. Get over that shit. As long as you keep breaking stride they're gonna keep doing it. Stop wasting entire pages of your blog to weep and moan over every little slight and slur that oozes out of the right. I mean, did you REALLY need an incident like this to convince you Lou Dobbs was a racist prick? Its in every coded comment he makes.

I read the comments by the former McCain adviser and as usual he's lying. The Obama campaign issues a press release to each slanderous ad or gimmick, then they move on to the issues. That's it. They NEVER dwell on the shit like the GOP wants us to. So why the hell is the progressive blogosphere going insane about it and vilifying Obama because he doesn't go negative? We need a better game plan and less hand wringing over underhanded campaign tactics. When they bring the noise, hit em with the latest economic figures showing 84,000 lost their jobs in August. When the trolls come with the crazy, ask them what McCain intends to do for the 600,000+ who've been unemployed in this year alone. Stick it to them by staying focused, ya'll. Everything else is irrelevant bullshit. McCain does NOT WANT YOU TO FOCUS ON THE ISSUES. If this is an issue based election, the GOP loses. Don't let them distract you from what they fear the most.
  • baratunde · 1 year ago
i hear you but i'm not convinced we're in an election based on reason and issues. reason and issues ALWAYS favor the democrats. if it were as simple as you make it out to be, john kerry would have won because he stayed focused on the issues and neither he nor people on his behalf played to win.

i admire obama and his team's approach but that doesn't mean we have to adopt the same tactics.

how many voters do you think really care what mccain will do about unemployment?

how many voters don't give a damn and only care that obama is some muslim terrorist who will send jobs to africa or some nonsense.

issues ALONE never win an election. and now that the right has gotten all fired up over little miss creationism, we need to tear them down as much as we build our side up.

issues matter, but the idea that we let flagrant attacks and abuses go unchallenged is bad strategy. if nothing else, all these progressives screaming about the latest offense GETS OUR SIDE OUT TO VOTE.

    "focus on the issues."

that's what the losing team always says right before they lose
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
how many voters do you think really care what mccain will do about unemployment?

    ::

I can't give you a numerical answer, of course, but I live in small town America, and I can tell you, people really care. Mill towns are becoming ghost towns.

What people don't care about are lies and innuendo and culture wars.

    Not this time.

    They're hurting too much.

This is Rove's mistake and this is OUR mistake.

Maybe issues don't decide elections when things are going well.

But when things aren't going well, issues are what folks want to know most about.

"Low information" voters are easiest to manipulate when they can afford food.

Grits are almost $3.00 in this small town.

    People care about their livelihood.

We will lose only if we panic every time a poll shifts.

Panic causes inertia. Inertia causes depressed enthusiasm. Depressed enthusiasm suppresses voter turnout.

This election isn't like any other election in our nation's history.

We've got to keep on moving. We've got to keep calling, knocking on doors, and telling the truth about Barack's middle-class TAX CUTS and his plans to renew our economy. We've got to.

    We cannot afford to lose.
  • baratunde · 1 year ago
i agree with all the actions you mention, but i disagree with statements like "this election isn't like any other election in our nation's history."

i think we need a full spectrum assault on these idiots on the right trying to manipulate people. i don't think MERELY focusing on the issues enough. I think we need to get our side fired up and motivated to vote and scaring them about the b.s. from camp mccain is ONE way to do that.
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
but i disagree with statements like "this election isn't like any other election in our nation's history."

    ::

    That's cool.

But it's not. And not just because Barack is Black. It's because this is the worst economy of the 20th and 21st centuries.

We are on the verge of a collapse that would make 1929 look like a blip on the radar.

People like Sarah Palin. A lot. Some of them are apprehensive about Barack. But that doesn't mean they will actually vote for Unstable-Unable on November 4.

If WE slam them with TAX CUTS and a plan for a renewed economy, we will win.

These smears are only going to matter in the minds of those who weren't going to vote for Barack in the first place.

That's where we are. The criminals are launching their hail mary's. All of them. From purging rolls to caging and all other manifestations of voter suppression.

If we want to scare them, tell them that an Unstable-Unable administration will bring nuclear winter. That a vote for them will be a vote for suicide. Not just for their children and grandchildren, but for THEM.

We can't waste too much time responding to racist foolishness in the final 52 days.

We must stay on message and win this.
