Jack and Jill Politics: Ohio, Florida — Race, Voting and the 2008 Elections

About Florida, remember this, in 2008, former felons have had their voting rights restored.

I don't doubt for one moment that they won't try, but we're on it, and will be even more alert next time.

I just saw this on abc news, and I couldn't wait until tomorrow to vent. Excuse my language, but any negro that continues to support Hillary Clinton after today is really fucked up in the head. The first OFFICIAL attack on Obama from the Clinton Campaign is on the issue of mandatory minimum sentencing, which has consistently been one of the critical issues of concern in the African American Community for over a decade.

It's bad enough that she opposed retroactivity for crack cocaine sentencing, but this is a spit in the face to the African American and Civil Rights Community that have been working diligently for almost two decades to end the injustice of federal mandatory minimum sentencing that has been almost exclusively reserved for crack cocaine sentencing.

Is she saying the Supreme Court (which has now given more discretion back to federal judges), the Sentencing Commission, the NAACP, the Urban League, and countless other civil justice and legal justice organizations are wrong?

When will Black folks wake up and see these Clintons for what they really are?

This is a great analysis. Just looking at the electoral map begs a certain question for me: Obama's Veep...who could it be? Who adds value and can pick up that extra state?

Wesley Clark WOULD HAVE been a perfect choice, but he aligned himself with Hillary and is surely out-of-the-running.

Someone suggested Jim Webb of VA. Webb is one tough S.O.B and i'm sure he could do the job that Edwards failed to do in 2004--Be the attack dog and more importantly, CARRY HIS OWN STATE.

Even though I'm confident that Obama could win VA without Webb (plus OH + all of the other Kerry'04 states), an OBAMA-WEBB ticket would be Dangerous (in a Good way).

I'm racking my brains to think of other prospects...but none come to mind.

Biden? Maybe Sec of State, but not Veep.

    Richardson? A Black/Latino Ticket, Nope.

Clinton? Not a chance in HADES.

The "minimum sentencting" attack is pure Bill. In their minds, African-Americans are pawns to be used for their political conquests. Does anyone remember Bill's SistaSouljah Moment? Hillary's pursuing her own SistaSouljah Moment right now. It's a zero-sum game for them; unfortunately, it's going to backfire and destroy her candidacy completely.

Poor Clintons...Can't WIN with African-Americans, Can't WIN WITHOUT US.

If I had a political church, I'd save the phrase above for a future sermon. But for now, I'm preaching Obama all day, all-the-time.

    NMP,

I hadn't read your comment here. I was reading Huffington Post, and had the same reaction as you did.

    TX is interesting to me -- it's a majority-minority state. It's definitely not a shoo-in this go-round as a red state.

Re: veep choice for Obama -- great idea for a blog post. I have some ideas on that and will get back to you...
