It's bittersweet. Obama lost his G-mother, and he's got a heavy burden to carry from now on. He's got to clean up the GOP mess, and make no mistake, they will fight him every step of the way. We've got to uplift him with our thoughts, prayers and goodwill.

Wow..look at the beaming faces in the crowd!

I am a 23 year-old black female. I grew up in Oak Cliff, an inner city area of Dallas. There are several identifiable times when I, my siblings, or friends were told we could only go "so far." I come to JJP everyday, and comment sparingly, and I even donated money. But I appreciate all you guys have done through this election season! I work full time and attend law school at night. I've been privileged to attend and work for some of the best schools in this nation, but at the same time, in these same institutions I have heard some of the most uninformed, unfair comments. Perhaps fortuitously, I have a double degree in Religious Studies and Political Science and could argue factually and historically for my support of President-Elect Obama and for African Americans (and our religious and cultural sensibilities). But aside from the intellectual arguments, I felt this campaign so emotionally. I cried with the women of my family when he won, and it's still sinking in that that beautiful family that just walked on the stage will ignite such a paradigmatic change in this nation. There really are no words to explain what this moment meant to me personally, but thank you all for working to articulate the voices of those who work too hard to complain, who know no other way but to endure, and for those whose sacrifices were simply their way of making a way out of no way! From a little heard from family member...Thank you and I love you, JJP!
  • BIGGIE_4_OBAMA · 1 year ago
congrats to you and much continued success in your journey.

what you have encountered is what i see on wall st everyday as it is impossible to vote for Barack Obama for more than just race but when I got to work this morning I just stopped trying and listened all day to the worried millionaires scared at their taxes going from36% to 39.6% and socialism is back.

b.s. change is here and I am glad that I am a part of it and will work harder to see change happen for my kids.

I will make change that will resonate in others lives 10, 20 years from now.

God Bless us all and God Bless America

I am President Elect Barack Obama

We stopped at the edge of the precipice. We knew we were in trouble and did what was necessary to correct ourselves. I am proud of this country today.

Don't get me started rikyrah. I have known this man was special and good for a long time.

I just got off the phone with my 20 year old son who said, "mom you're were talking about him 5 years ago and nobody I've told believes me." He said he understands why now. He asked how I knew he would be special. I told him I just did. I feel his spirit. He will bring out the best in all of us.

    May God bless him.

There are no words. Barack Obama has done what no other Democrat has done since Carter- win the popular vote by more than 50%. He is the first Senator since Kennedy was elected. He has done what no other campaign in history has done- raised more money and engaged more volunteers than any other campaign in history. And finally he is the first black man elected to be President of the United States. This is a great day.

And the image of a black family in the most powerful house in the word will be impressive to see!!! God protect Barack Obama and his family.

[Paraphrased] Observations from MSNBC/NBC's political director, Chuck Todd, as he contrasted the generational aspects of this race:

John McCain is the third Vietnam war vet to run for president and lose.

Barack Obama, born in 1961, will likely be the last 'baby boomer' president and will be the first new president elected in the 21st century.

The Vietnam generation(s) failed to elect a president, but the Civil Rights generation(s) did.

There will be no sleeping in the A-T-L tonight. Amazing......Simply Amazing. Young people are so inspired, the elderly are so proud...we're all walking with a little pep in our steps, a slight smile or a wide grin. I think to myself...what a wonderful world.
  • Nate_Wesley · 1 year ago
I think we're going to see folks (black, white, or whatever) walking a little taller, smiling a little wider, working a little harder.

Just watching the crowds in Chitown, Times Square, in front of the White House, Los Angeles,.....beautiful.
  • Town · 1 year ago
LOL not in "real Virginia" they won't. Last night they were talking about stocking up on rations because "teh blaks will riot" whether Obama wins or not. I took up my Obama yard sign for fear of vandalism and I'm expecting salty ass suckas tomorrow.

But no matter. We're waking up to President-elect Barack HUSSEIN Obama so all is well. lol
  • enviro · 1 year ago
Not to be too cheesy, but I think this election is such a great thing for all those folks who are honestly, truly afraid of an Obama presidency simply because he's black. I don't know if everyone heard that woman on NPR saying, with real fear in her voice, that she thinks an Obama win would bring "chaos." I thought lady, this will be the best thing that ever happened to you.

    Anyone have clips from Fox?

Man the FOX crew looked like they needed some Zoloft. At one point Brit Hume and the panel were sniping at that Uncle Tom Juan Williams, and Williams looked like he wanted to cry like a little B(**&. You know once he leaves the studio, that he will be doing cartwheels down Time Square like the rest of us.

Bill Richardson has shaved the goatee - I think he's getting ready for a job in the Obama Administration..LOL

I love him. If he wasn't promiscuous he could've been the VP.

My sincere, heartfelt hope is that O will find some qualified, diverse people, and that his administration will look like the country. I hope he has Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Jewish & Arab-americans, women, everyone.

For the first time in 21 months, I am looking forward to watching Morning Joe. Did anyone else notice that after Ohio was called for Obama, that Joe Scar was no where to be found on MSNBC., neithe rwas Buchanan. I may have to actually get up early.

    Suck on that Joe!

Man, today Nov 5th is my birthday! I will consider this my birthday present from America.
  • Town · 1 year ago
Bill "Abort black babies" Bennett was all sad and sorrowful on the CNN set.

Brit Hume was sitting there with the long sad face and Uncle Juan Williams was sober and pretty much just "there."

How come ya'll didn't tell me Hillary Rosen was down like that?

(On CNN, she talked about her biracial kids and this moment in history. I always thought she was one of the best Hillary supporter who transitioned into supporting Obama smoothly and convincingly.)

I never knew why you guys called HRC Hillaptine?
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    It's a Star Wars Reference.

    Check out this Wikipedia:

Palpatine is a fictional character in George Lucas's science fiction saga Star Wars.[1] The character, portrayed by actor Ian McDiarmid in the feature films, is the true main antagonist of the saga; introduced in the original trilogy as the Emperor of the Galactic Empire, an aged, cowled and pale-faced figure, who rises to power in the prequel trilogy through deception and treachery as a middle-aged politician of the Republic. Secretly, Palpatine is Darth Sidious, a Dark Lord of the Sith who initiates and manipulates the Clone Wars to destroy the Jedi and usher in the totalitarian Galactic Empire.

Mentioned by Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), the Emperor was characterized as a cunning but weak politician under the control of powerful bureaucrats in Lucas's original scripts of Star Wars. However, in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, the prequels, and Star Wars literature, the character is depicted as the personification of evil and heavy-handed authoritarianism. Palpatine was incorporated into the Star Wars merchandising campaigns that corresponded with the theatrical release of Return of the Jedi and the prequel films. The character has since become a symbol of evil and sinister deception in popular culture, particularly in the United States.

I didn't know that either. I read her columns and she has been a very forceful surrogate for Obama...i didn't even know she originally supported Hillary for POTUS.

They go way back! So much so that their CLOSE relationship help feed the rumors that Hillary Clinton was gay.
  • Nate_Wesley · 1 year ago
Ain't that the same Hillary Rosen who was head of the RIAA, who decided it was a great idea to start suing its customers for near-harmless file-sharing? Grrrr....
  • NMP · 1 year ago
That's not surprising. The adoption pool for white gays is limited to black or other minority children that are considered difficult to adopt. I'm not saying that she wouldn't have adopted the black kids if she had a choice, but the reality is that as a gay woman, she doesn't. Please don't read anything into that. In a perfect world, I would rather have more black families open up their homes to black children, but I'm one who thinks that adoptive parents--of any race--are what Senator Obama called his grandmother, quiet heroes.
  • Nquest · 1 year ago
Somewhere in that link it says that Rosen has kids from her marriage to her Black husband...
  • Miranda · 1 year ago
This minister on MSNBC is getting on my last nerves...I forgot his name.
  • Nquest · 1 year ago
I think Morning Joe had him (Rev. Rivers (??)) and he was getting on my nerves then too. I have a problem with people crediting this country for our advances. I don't have a problem with crediting Whites who support/sacrifice but when we press on, time after time, whether the barrier stands or falls... the credit should be to whom it is due.

The spirit of our people... the tradition and legacy of our ancestors... Those are the people who deserve the credit and the last thing anyone, even us ourselves, should cheat us out of is the credit for never letting the barriers be an obstacle and never letting this country... this country... break our spirit.

If there's one belief... one lesson Dr. King taught and had faith in when he preached non-violence is that kind of transformative power that not only transforms us but the country in the process.

MSNBC had T.D. Jakes on early and I liked his statement even though he talked about how the "country" has progressed... Jakes said he differed from older folks who originally doubted (as I did) that the country was ready. I can't remember exactly how he said it but he went on to affirm the feeling I always had, regardless to what I thought about the country: I knew Obama was good enough to win and would if given the opportunity.
  • NMP · 1 year ago
Can you believe that Eugene Rivers was short of Black Panther out of Philly back in the day? During the Reverend Wright saga, Joe would put him on daily to criticize Reverend Wright and Black Liberation Theology. Little do white folks know he was Reverend Wright back in the day. He actually attended Harvard for a year or two but left because he said he couldn't deal with the conformist attitude of the other black folks on campus. He had a drug habit and had a baby before he got married from what I understand. He almost lost his church in Boston over charges of a ongoing child rape at the day care center at his church. Oh, but he won't tell that. Let him tell it, Barack was supposed to know Reverend Wright's every thought and words and be held accountable, but he didn't know what was going on inside his church.

No, he won't tell that would lose him his slot on the 'Morning Joe' token rotation along with Jonathan Capehart and John Ridley.

MSNBC just replayed a great clip of Michelle new first lady Obama on why blacks were not supporting Obama at first because they are always told "no -- wait." God bless her and him and their perserverence. How are we so lucky to have people with so much faith and intelligence and perserverence?
  • Rhondacoca · 1 year ago
"why blacks were not supporting Obama at first "

You mean why Obama was not pulling extremely high numbers?
  • enviro · 1 year ago
Is it too negative to talk about John McCain's bullshit speech? Did anyone else hear his comments about "no one being able to say this is a country that blah blah blah" as "kwitcherbitchin"?

This is kind of a risky comment but -- did it strike anyone as kind of racist how they kept showing Spelman college or what not? Like, look at all those happy black people! It rubbed me the wrong way.
