Jack and Jill Politics: Racist Republican Draws Hillary in Blackface

  • rikyrah · 2 years ago
Do you hear any African-Americans criticizing Clinton, Obama or Edwards for pandering to the black community? It's just not a common complaint at the moment. We are eager to hear more from candidates about issues impacting us. For most of us, it feels like it's about time someone paid attention and engaged on more than a superficial level with black voters. Until we start complaining, Chris Muir and the rest of you wingnuts especially -- back it on up and check yourselves.

    Pandering?

    LOL

Someone's finally actually trying to pay attention to issues of importance to the Black community, and it's PANDERING?

    Oh yeah.

But, it's not PANDERING when all the GOP candidates go prostrate in front of James Dobson, et al?

    Ok.

    Whatever.

    Racist piece of tripe.

    I told you...

they're gonna do D.W. Griffith proud.

But how do you know that he is racist?

Why do you think that you speak for all black people?

I enjoyed that and second your observations!

One additional caveat: When Black people identify content in the media as unacceptable without first being prompted it makes some in the white community...uncomfortable! The trend has been that our opinion needs first to be validated by some reputable (white) co-sponsor to have merit. It led many in the media to ponder the future. "So what's next? Could I loose my job as well??" The idea that we could influence American media is a stark, new, change in paradigm. I like it!!

Looks like the Imus issue has opened the floodgates in the media, as if to say "I dare you to have me fired!"

Well, start spreading the news; if your sponsor is someone WE patronize, all we have to do is call them and ask:

"DO YOU WANT YOUR PRODUCT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RANTINGS AND PANDERINGS OF A KNOWN MEMBER OF THE KKK?"

That, plus his co-workers' complaining (and probably threatening an EEO complaint) got Imus' ass booted off the air.

It can get Chris Muir fired - only I never heard of this triangulating twit until I read your post, Jill.

Which goes to show how insignificant this lil' SOB really is.

Sorry, I haven't had my coffee yet...

I think you're being too generous to this cartoonist. I don't think he's pointing out the (perceived) pandering as a favor to the black community, or even just accusing Hillary of being an opportunist.

I think it's likely that the cartoonist (and his audience) accept that Hillary is genuinely interested in the black community and its issues, and they villify her for exactly that reason. They think black issues are the antithesis of theirs and don't want those issues advanced.

These are great comments. I think it's true that some white people dismiss resistance against racism from minorities as "playing the race card" and "being over-sensitive." Thus it is really helpful when other white people come forward and confirm racism when they see it since there are those who will only believe it if it comes from someone who looks like them. At least that's my observation.

I think there are some people out there who are really uncomfortable with/threatened by candidates speaking to African-Americans directly and seriously. They believe our concerns are different, when in fact, we are concerned about Iraq, national and community safety, healthcare, social security and education just like everyone else. We are impacted in some cases differently from other groups and therefore may approach these issues from a different perspective.

Fantasy. Nice demonization though! You vilify people and a position that you don't understand.

    Good idea.

jill tubman is a racist for believing that she can "speak for all black people".

I might as well call that out as long as we're cavalierly throwing the term around. I'm just taking your cue Jill. You racist.

    dear likwidshoe,

i feel its fairly evident that you don't seem to understand the actual issue at hand, but rather try to throw around little offhand comments to skirt around the issue how blackface simply is not okay.

your first comment asked how he's racist. well, even if he isn't racist, the fact that he's using such demeaning, racist, and insulting mediums (uh, the blackface, anyone?) to get his 'point' across (assuming they have an actual point) is what i believe was jill's original point. and i think the main thing we should gather from this article is that while support from the white majority is appreciated, you need to realize what support is wanted and what is NOT wanted, and understand there are certain things that are actually more insulting that whatever it is you are 'fighting'.

Now, as to your statement of how she is villifying people, the fact is, vilifying is the act of spreading negative information, and if these people are involved in acts that seem counterproductive to the needs of the black community, i'd say that's pretty fair. and you seem to be fairly quiet on THEIR demonization of hilary clinton, which i find far more offensive.

you say its a position she doesn't understand... why don't you explain it, given your seemingly expansive knowledge on the subject?
