Jack and Jill Politics: Rev. Jesse Jackson on Saddam Execution

    I'm conflicted.

On the one hand, I'm against capital punishment.

On the other hand, it's Iraqi business.

Why can't he just spend the rest of his life in jail?

I wish it were just Iraqi business. But the trial and the execution were stage-managed by the U.S. gov't while Iraq is still under our occupation. The U.S. is necessarily implicated. Why wasn't Saddam Hussein sent to the Hague like Milosevic? Why -- because that would have required Bush to acknowledge international law. Something he prefers to interpret for his own whims. I think we - the US - were damned if we did, and damed if we didn't(in reference to the hanging).

Iraq is in the middle of a Civil War. Sunni vs. Shia. It's payback time, and there the US is - in the middle.

Anyone who read history should have known that Iraq was the Arab Equivalent of Yugoslavia, and Saddam was the Arab Tito.

I knew this, and I have no PhD or work for the government in any capacity. ...so those who WERE paid to know, didn't know?

We need to get the hell out of there, and leave them to their bloodbath.

And yes, it will be all our fault. We - the USA - will have that blood on our hands for years to come.

Used to the 'good old days', that Arab radicals just could justifiably hate us because of the Israel/Palestine situation.

Iraq created a whole other generation of enemies for us...sigh.

THIS is George W. Bush's foreign affairs legacy to our children.

A rigged trial, conviction, and a hurried execution orchestrated by an American occupation force on Arab soil on a Sunni Muslim Holy day illustrates shameless revenge disguised as justice.

The Bush Crime Family had silenced a witness who could implicate U.S. regimes through its past clandestine dealings in supplying weapons of mass destruction, and then allowing the mass killings to occur so long as the totalitarian ruler performed America’s bidding in the region.

Given Saddam’s fate for crimes against humanity and for threatening to kill Pappy Bush, what fate awaits the Bush Crime Family for its deliberate violations of international laws, its murderous war crimes against the Iraqi people, and for its deadly betrayal of trust of our troops?

    Excuse me.

I THOUGHT that the party line was "the United States should not attempt to instill our VALUES upon the people of Iraq"? They need to be allowed to have their SELF DETERMINATION restored, right?

I see that this is only the case in ABSTRACT TERMS.

In the United States HANGING IS AN ILLEGAL FORM OF EXECUTION. This was done by the IRAQI GOVERNMENT not by the American government.

Isn't this an example of them expressing their own SELF DETERMINATION? Or is the concept only applicable to things that YOU support?

I am PRO-DEATH PENALTY. Most of the people killed by direct order of Saddam had no access to a TRIAL.

    AMEN. AMEN. AMEN.

NOW WHEN WILL THE TRIAL OF GEORGE BUSH, DICK CHENEY, DONALD RUMSFIELD AND ALL THE OTHER MERCHANTS OF DEATH AND I DO MEAN MERCHANTS. JUST HOW MUCH MONEY AND POWER DO YOU NEED IN THIS WORLD BEFORE EVERYONE BEGINS TO RECOGNIZE TRUE EVIL.

TO TRY AND RE-MAKE SOMEONE ELSE COUNTRY FOR THE NEXT WALMART, STARBUCKS, AND IN THE NAME OF MAKING THE WORLD SAFER ONLY SHOWS TRUE ARROGANCE AND LACK OF UNDERSTANDING THAT EVERYONE IN THE WORLD DOES NOT WANT TO BE LIKE THE MATERIALLY OBSESSED AMERICANS.

WHEN WILL AMERICANS FINALLY REALIZE THAT NOT EVERYONE WANTS THESE MONUMENTS TO GREED IN THEIR COUNTRIES!

THESE OLD MEN GET RICHER AT THE EXPENSE OF PEOPLE WHO THEY CARE NOTHING ABOUT. ITS THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR AT ALL COST.

I CRY AT WHAT HAS BECOME OF THIS COUNTRY EVEN IN ITS LIMITED ABILITY TO ACCEPT ME AS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN. NOW I UNDERSTAND, IN A SMALL WAY, HOW THOSE WHITE PEOPLE STOOD BY AS THE WILD-EYED PATHOLOGICAL KILLERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES COMMITTED ATROCITY AFTER ATROCITY IN THE NAME OF MAINTAINING THEIR SUPERIORITY. WHAT CAN WE DO. I PRAY FOR THIS COUNTRY AND FOR THE PEOPLE OF THIS WORLD.

He was gassing folks while he was our ally and had nothing to do with 9-11. That should say it all, and the Shiites and Kurds (and Bush, Cheney et al) cared nothing about justice. It was just payback.

Nevertheless, I'm for hanging all corrupt bloody dictators and the people in our government who tolerate/indulge/support them. Of course, that means I would have to murder 80% of the leaders on the African continent, and some of them are friends of Jesse's, Maxine Waters' etc. Ooops...
