But why would requiring a picture ID affect minority or poor voters? I don't understand. Doesn't everyone have some sort of picture ID? Why would minority or poor voters be less likely to have picture IDs?

Sept. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said the country can't afford $3.3 trillion of tax cuts proposed by Republican presidential nominee John McCain without corresponding spending reductions.

Greenspan, a lifelong Republican and longtime friend of McCain, said today on Bloomberg Television's ``Political Capital With Al Hunt'' that ``I'm not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money.''

I think part of the problem lies in lazy poll workers not knowing the rules/laws. I have heard stories during the primaries of [not necessarily black] people being denied a ballot because of no picture ID. Thing is, they actually had picture ID, and were testing local acceptance of alternate forms of individual identification: bank statements, bills addressed to the individual voter, social security cards, birth certificates, etc. One such instance led to a voter being thrown out of the polling place and threatened with arrest --but smartly, the voter kept calm and called state officials to get things straightened out.

It's clear that Republicans insist upon requiring picture ID because it will affect minority and poor voters, and not some noble sense of fair elections. If it were about being noble and fair, they wouldn't be sending lawyers to challenge individuals in the first place.

Well done and a good message, too. God forbid that terrorists attack our country again, the attack will likely be vastly different than what 9/11 was. We need to be spending money DOMESTICALLY to usefully secure our borders, our ports, our power plants, etc. Many of these fortifications could be rolled into the public infrastructure rebuilding that we need in the first place.

You need to admit your entire family for treatment immediately.

My parents are Republicans. My father has been a big booster of the Party for the last thirty odd years, and can't stand anybody named Clinton, but on this...on this he has just about gone under radio silence about the Republicans this year, and feels that if Obama can get this many people involved in the political process, especially black people, who weren't before, then he is a good thing.

My mother still watches FOX News, but she is proudly and officially an Obama Mama.

I don't know what part of the country you're from, or your real life alter ego is from, but in the neck of the woods I grew up in, the white man and the devil were kissing cousins whenever it came to morality.

Between the 90% of blacks who support Obama, and the 5% who are die hard Republicans, the few that are left are what the statisticians call "statistically insignificant".

There was an article posted here about a county in Michigan which was predominantly black and if your name appeared on the foreclosure list, Repubs would not allow you to vote. This applied even if you had worked out a deal with your mortgage company and you were still living in your home. If you no longer reside in your home, you must re-register to vote. This makes sense but many people are not aware of this issue. Here in Ohio voters are being purged due to foreclosure. If you can't find the articles here, you can find them on dkos.

Okay it wasn't just me. I'm still watching but I was surprised with the tone os the show. I've always thought he was a good commentator in a panel setting but this show just seems to want to highlight the most polarizing issues of the campaign.

Help me out here. What is wrong with asking for an I.D. at a polling place? Seems like common sense so people aren't just claiming they are someone they are not.

I can see the issue of the foreclosure for people of all races because the mortgage problem affects people across all backgrounds. But the article didn't flesh out what happens if there is a foreclosure notice on your home when you go to vote. I'm assuming you still get to vote.

Maybe I'm missing something.

I was but I have since turned it off. It seems too divisive to me. I cannot take any more negativity . I was surprised to learn that Roland votes Republican most of the time. I guess that should not have been a surprise since he is a commentator on CNN.

You would think that women all over this country were absolutely mesmerized by Sarah Palin and totally forgetting everything they strongly believed in. She did not even bother to be prepared for her first full media interview with Charlie Gibson (How embarrassing). She bobbed and weaved, avoiding any direct answers to the very direct questions she was asked (Possbily out of ignorance). Then, when the questions became just too difficult for her, she answered her interviewer with a cute smile and a wink (What political savvy). What are we to think about a Republican candidate, who when asked about a specific Bush policy on terrorism, gave an answer that clearly proved that she had no idea what Charlie Gibson was talking about? As far as the economy is concerned Palin-McCain will do nothing to help the middle class. After watching Palin in the Gibson interview it is difficult for me to understand why so many people are supporting her. What is wrong with the electorate? Seeing that beautiful photo has (at least for today) helped give my faith a little boost. I want to believe that we will do the right thing for this country and elect Obama in November.

Any New Yorkers (or Jersey-ites) might be interested in the Brooklyn Book Festival tomorrow. There are some panels about the upcoming election that look pretty interesting.

Me, I am tired of the lies. I am tired of our political discourse not getting to the heart and soul of what is wrong with our country, but focusing on phony, trumped up charges that have nothing to do with the issues. Enough is enough. We all need to shout it from the roof tops.
