WTF is up with the trolls on JJP today?

If you feel that strongly about McCain/Palin, get off your asses and hit the pavement and try to get votes. Stop wasting time posting talking points that we ALL know are based on bullshit. That is one of the reasons why you are losing. I guess Team McCain could benefit from the support of community organizers right about now . . . oh wait, according to Palin community organizers have NO value and has no real responsibilities.

Anyway . . . . Dropping off JJP again for awhile all - I have another shift this afternoon to hit the streets for Barack today. Will check back in as soon as possible.

Oh they're just all riled up because Obama won't play fair! You know....he went and organized the most efficient, effective campaign in the history of campaigns, utlizing dem 'puters and galvanizing all those young-ins and the trolls are upset because their "way of life" is threatened......you know as soon as Obama is sworn in he's gonna enslave all the white people and the Nation of Islam will take over Homeland Security. Personally, I can't wait until he mandates that the National Anthem be changed to "One Nation Under a Groove".

Heavy Black Turnout Threatens Georgia Senator

LITHONIA, Ga. — Just a few blocks off Max Cleland Boulevard, named for the Democrat defeated by Senator Saxby Chambliss in a bitter Congressional race six years ago, a line has formed that could be problematic for Mr. Chambliss’s own re-election this year.

Hundreds of voters, most of them black residents of bedroom communities east of Atlanta, are waiting to cast early ballots, motivated by the candidacy of Senator Barack Obama but many also taking the opportunity to vote for Jim Martin, Mr. Chambliss’s Democratic opponent.

“I voted for Jim because I like what he is saying, not just because he is Democratic,” Iris Epps said as she exited Lithonia Middle School after waiting about 90 minutes on Tuesday evening to cast her ballot. She said the wait would have been even longer earlier in the day.

Like several other Senate and House candidates in North Carolina, Ohio and Connecticut, Mr. Chambliss finds himself in a tight race even though only months ago he was considered a cinch for re-election. A significant part of his problem is the surging participation by African-American voters, their ranks bolstered by the newly registered, a group expected to vote overwhelmingly for Democrats this year.

In Georgia, where Mr. Obama’s organization worked hard to register new voters but did not mount a full-blown campaign because the state seems beyond his reach, black voters in Atlanta and the surrounding areas have been standing in line for hours. Many are among the tens of thousands of newly registered voters.

New registrations of black voters ran more than 25 percent higher this year than four years ago, with especially high registration among black women.

Nearly 1.4 million Georgians have voted, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, and more than a third were black. (Blacks make up just over 29 percent of registered voters in the state, which keeps track of racial data under civil rights laws.)

    THERE IS MORE

This situation is laughable! Blacks make up ~12% of the U.S. population and "they're" AFRAID of US!!

What EVER happened to "with LIBERTY and JUSTICE FOR ALL?" :>)

There is a way to C-H-A-N-G-E this situation - Mr. Chambliss. YOU treat ALL PEOPLE EQUALLY!!

O-Bama Faces: See One Week's Worth (PHOTOS)

So if you're sitting there at your computer wondering "What in the world is an 'O-Bama Face'?", here's the definition as we've, well, defined it:

O-Bama Face (n.): the facial expression made by an Obama supporter when the inspired oration and possibility of a President Obama become almost too much to bear.

It's the new O-Face. Read up on where we got our inspiration for the O-Bama Face.

This week was chock-full of O-Bama Faces as the senator zig-zagged around the country in his final week of campaigning. See the slideshow below.

U.S. Rep. John Lewis offers to help clear the way for emergency weekend voting

    http://www.ajc.com/services/content/shared-blog...

“We are requesting that the Secretary of State [Karen Handel] use Florida and North Carolina as an example. We ask that she extend early voting in Georgia through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We believe the number of poll workers should be increased at polling sites where a large turnout is expected.

“She must increase the number of voter registration machines at locations where there is large turnout, and we are calling on Governor [Sonny] Perdue and Karen Handel to request emergency voting rights pre-clearance from the Department of Justice to clear the path for these changes.

“My office is preparing a letter right now, advising the Attorney General Mukasey of these issues in Georgia and encouraging him to grant emergency pre-clearance, when it is requested.”
  • msmartin · 1 year ago
I'm glad to see someone attempting to do something about this. If Conyers is successful, Chambliss will blow a stack.
  • Justice58 · 1 year ago
    MsMartin

I hope John Lewis is successful in getting extended time. The lines in Atlanta were a sight to see with people waiting to vote. If that would have happened on Tuesday....no way everyone would get to vote without more machines in place.
  • msmartin · 1 year ago
You're right Justice, the lines were a beautiful sight and a scary sight at the same time. It's wonderful to have so many people involved, but it would be unacceptable if one person's vote isn't counted because officials didn't make it possible for every person to cast their vote.

This lack of preparedness in GA is a form of disenfranchisement. Officials have known for months (via registrations) that this would be a historic election and that many planned to vote.
  • Miranda · 1 year ago
Karen Handel (Sec of State) is doing her very BEST Katherine Harris imitation.
  • RobM · 1 year ago
There is no question that Karen Handel is doing her very best imitation. Electoral officals every where should be on notice after Florida that they have a responsbility to make sure there are enough machines. Congress passed extra money to ensure this didn't happen again. In areas Democrats are in charge of they bear an extra responsiblity to ensure that Florida never happens again. Unfortunately just like in Broward and Dade counties these officals were Democrats. To often they reflect the prejudices of their community, i.e. blacks don't vote reliably and we have to give them a piece of the pie if they help us win. They often don not want to becasue the pie ahs steadily shrunk since 1996. The result is s@#$ like this happens.

We should also remain aware, very aware of possible election fraud in this cycle. It has been proven that G.W. did NOT win in 2000, as the election was rigged and stolen. Anyone using a voting machine made by Diebold should be very aware of the ability to hack into and rig these machines through data cards and irgging the reader to record certain votes randomly for the other (preferred) candidate. Princeton University even did a non-partisan scientific study of this:

Yes! All McCain supporters should stay home while Obama supporters go to the polls to be a part of history.

Can McCain supporters (especially black ones) AT LEAST acknowledge that this is historic?
  • Michelle · 1 year ago
Nate Silver's take on it at fivethirtyeight.com:

Matt Drudge is touting the results of a one-day sample in a Zogby poll, which apparently showed John McCain ahead by 1 point.

There are a couple of significant problems with this...

Read the rest here: Trick or Treat

In that post Nate links to his previous analysis of Zogby in general, and it includes this paragraph: Quirks/Concerns: There is one very, very significant concern with Zogby, which is that he has a longstanding rule to set his party weightings based on the exit polls from the most recent election. In this case, that means 2004, when a roughly equal number of Democrats and Republicans turned out. However, according to essentially every available poll, Democrats now have somewhere between a 5-point and a 10-point advantage in party ID.

I would guess that this flaw would not have been as evident in the primary since it is about party ID rating.

Read the rest here: Tracking Poll Primer

Again, it's the need to stand in that territory that is neither a) Frightened/freaked nor b) Complacent.
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago

Selflessness and Patriotism in the Age of Obama. This can best be defined by keeping one’s mouth shut as the government drops the barrier of “excessive income” progressively lower.

Because, remember: it’s selfish to think that you can distribute the wealth you earned more efficiently and intelligently than Obama and his small, elite group of policymakers. Why, look how well the government performed when it decided it knew better how to grant mortgages than the lenders themselves!

Barack has been a pillar of confidence, cool, and level headedness this entire campaign. McCain represents desperation, low road politics and putting self and your own personal aspirations far in front of country. There is no limit to the depths John McCain won't sink to in an effort to win this election. He gave up country first a long time ago. Schwarzenegger, an alleged racist, who's been critical of Sarah Palin and John McCain, now is being utilized as McCain's saving grace. Politics are such a joke.

Here is Marc Ambinder's response to the "illegal Aunt" story. It seems about right:

    The Politics Of Auntie Zeituni
    01 Nov 2008 12:57 pm

Barack Obama's long-lost aunt, who is living in poverty, might be deported for being in the country illegally...and this is supposed to make people not want to vote for Barack Obama?

Republicans think anti-immigrant forces are going to be rallied by attacking a middle aged woman in her fifties? This is what's going to swing independents back to McCain? Reminding people (a) of an actual human face on the receiving end of anti-immigration policies and (b) that the Democratic candidate is personally affected by a complicated issue facing many American families?

    http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/20...
  • Michelle · 1 year ago
    About Marc Ambinder's short response:

I don't think it is going to hurt Senator Obama's campaign. But I also think Ambinder is missing a lot.

"Anti-immigrant forces" have not been sufficiently integrated with the Christian Right and the economic conservatives in the Republican Party. At the same time, this type of white nationalism is a very strong and (for its proponents) passionate force that is extremely vicious and heartless. They won't care that this is a woman in her 50s -- remember that to them, she is not an actual human being, she is an "illegal alien." A dark non-human "illegal" -- to them.

Anyone who doesn't know how vicious the anti-immigrant white nationalists are has had the privilege to not have to deal with them. I live 60 miles from the US-Mexico border and .... it's ugly.

As I have mentioned before, Prop 200 here in Arizona -- which passed in 2004 -- added an ID requirement to the voting process using the false spectre of undocumented people stealing votes as the pretext.

I don't think Marc Ambinder fully understands the dynamics. This is not a move to get moderates/independents. It is a move to energize a base that has not been sufficiently integrated with the Christian Right and the economic wing of the Republican party. Because of this lack of integration, it is unlikely to work at this point.

    At THIS point. But.

But. I say, anyone who thinks that this strand of white nationalism will just go away after the election or will not go away but will only threaten the rights of people without the proper documents ... should think again. Watch carefully what the Republican Party does in its supposed struggle to "heal" itself and how this particular strand of white nationalism might play into the mix.

Yes, thank you Michelle. I just returned from a high school rally for Barack Obama and other local candidates here in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

The rally was organized by the Somalian community. Over the last 10 years, EP, MN. has seen one of the largest Somalia immigrant populations in the U.S. I live in Eden praire. It is the most diverse cities in suburbia, MN.

Keith Ellison made history as the first African American from Minnesota to serve in the U.S. Congress. He also made history by becoming the first person of the Muslim faith in America to serve in Congress. This is the community that helped elect him.

What I loved about attending this rally was the organizer were Somali, the diversity of the candidates and hearing where they stood on the issues. They had translators too. These folks are in America, and must understand what is involved. Keith has been very instrumental in helping not only somali immigrants gain legal status but also Hmong people.

Representative Ellison's philosophy is one of "generosity and inclusiveness." His roots as a community activist and his message of inclusivity through democratic participation resonates throughout the Fifth District. His priorities in Congress are: promoting peace, prosperity for working families, and promoting civil and human rights. It was so good to hear Keith tell the Somalia to vote the Deemocratic and he gave specific reasons why.

Ashwin Madia: 30 years old. He's an attorney, served in Iraq in the Marine Corp Parents from India. He was born in Boston. Running for Congress.

Al Franken: Jewish, former comedian, running against inccumbent Senator Norm Coleman.

R.T. Rybak: Mayor of Minneapolis, MN

Maria Rund: State Representative in my district. She's a Nurse Practictioner, and has worked tirelessly to assist Somali women.

All of these candidates walk the talk when it comes to helping immigrants intergrate into America, into communities.

Michelle Bahman was not in attendance, cuz that bitch is an anti- immigration white nationalist.

Yes, we will be watching the Repugs post 11-5.

The pick of Sarah Palin was the final invalidating stroke for many people and the reason was that it was so cravenly political. All choices in politics balance the line between the political and the principled. But hers was ENTIRELY about appealing to a base he thought he could not otherwise motivate. If he wanted maverick picks there were picks a plenty. If he wanted female picks..they were available in abundance. But he went out and picked the choice of the right wing fringe of his party, a wing that doesn't even represent most Republicans!

And that was before she opened her mouth. And demonstrated a stunning lack of knowledge or curiosity about the world whose free democracies she would endeavor to lead. And this highly unqualified person was who a 72 year old man who has had two bouts with melanoma put within a heartbeat of the presidency.

This was a stunning lack of leadership and judgment and a slap in the face to John Warner, Joe Leiberman, Kay Hutchinson, Olympia Snowe and the legion of other conservative, qualified, antichoice, militarily activist candidates there are in the Republican party. Such a man deserves neither his party's respect, nor that of the rest of us.

He says he enjoys her television show!!! John McCain is a horny old guy...but, notice how after he shakes her hand....he backs up little by little. I've seen dogs do that, they're barking and snarling, but when you approach them, they back up. All bark and no bite.
  • Anovelista · 1 year ago
I noticed him backing up too. He was probably talking a lot of stuff around his staff/handlers but in front of her... "I liked the fishing episode." Hahaha!!

Notice also that HE was brought backstage to meet HER. That means he requested it and went through the logistics because it was clear that he was just another generic white haired dude drooling over her in her mind. She did not indicate that she knew who he was.

This just confirms all the more what McCain really thinks about women.

Anovelista: Palin Gets Pranked by Canadian Radio Station.
    1 11 2008

In a prank call lasting about six minutes, Governor Palin believes she is talking to French President Nicolas Sarkozy. I guess Palin went “rogue.” And obviously they don’t vet their calls.

    2 THINGS:

    1. The UN-VETTED ONE got "PUNKED!!" or "PLAYED!"

    2. . . . they don't VET their calls! BWAHAHAHAHA!!! :>)

    I'm 2 tha-rough!! :>) :>)

You mean it never occurred to her handlers that it was kinda odd that the president of France was just calling to chit chat with Miss Sarah 3 days before the US elections?

Following is the transcript of the call from ABC:
    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/11...

GOV. SARAH PALIN: This is Sarah.

MASKED AVENGERS: Ah, yeah, Gov. Palin.

    GOV. PALIN: Helloooo!

MASKED AVENGERS: Just hold on for President Sarkozy, one moment.

GOV. PALIN: Oh, it's not him yet, they're saying. I always do that!

MASKED AVENGERS: Yes, hello, Gov. Palin...

GOV. PALIN: Hello, this is Sarah, how are you?

MASKED AVENGERS: Fine, and you? This is Nicolas Sarkozy speaking, how are you?

[Note: Sarkozy does not speak fluent English.]

GOV. PALIN: Oh, so good, it's so good to hear you. Thank you for calling us.

MASKED AVENGERS: Oh, it's a pleasure.

GOV. PALIN: Thank you sir, we have such great respect for you, John McCain and I. We love you and thank you for taking a few minutes to talk to me.

MASKED AVENGERS: I follow your campaigns closely with my special American adviser Johnny Hallyday, you know?

[Note: Hallyday is a French singer and actor.]

    GOV. PALIN: Yes, good.

MASKED AVENGERS: Excellent. Are you confident?

GOV. PALIN: Very confident and we're thankful that polls are showing that the race is tightening and --

MASKED AVENGERS: Well I know very well that the campaign can be exhausting. How do you feel right now, my dear?

GOV. PALIN: I feel so good. I feel like we're in a marathon and at the very end of the marathon you get your second wind and you plow to the finish.

MASKED AVENGERS: You see, I got elected in France because I'm real and you seem to be someone who's real, as well.

GOV. PALIN: Yes, yeah. Nicolas, we so appreciate this opportunity.

MASKED AVENGERS: You know I see you as a president one day, you too.

GOV. PALIN: (laughing) Maybe in eight years.

MASKED AVENGERS: Well, I hope for you. You know, we have a lot in common because personally one of my favorite activities is to hunt, too.

GOV. PALIN: Oh, very good. We should go hunting together.

MASKED AVENGERS: Exactly, we could go try hunting by helicopter like you did. I never did that. Like we say in French, on pourrait tuer des bebe phoques, aussi.

[Translation: We could also kill some baby seals.]

GOV. PALIN: Well, I think we could have a lot of fun together as we're getting work done. We can kill two birds with one stone that way.

MASKED AVENGERS: I just love killing those animals. Mmm, mmm, take away life, that is so fun. I'd really love to go, as long as we don't bring along Vice-President Cheney. (Laughs.)

GOV. PALIN: No, I'll be a careful shot, yes.

MASKED AVENGERS: Yes, you know we have a lot in common also, because except from my house I can see Belgium. That's kind of less interesting than you.

GOV. PALIN: Well, see, we're right next door to different countries that we all need to be working with, yes.

MASKED AVENGERS: Some people said in the last days and I thought that was mean that you weren't experienced enough in foreign relations and you know that's completely false. That's the thing that I said to my great friend, the prime minister of Canada Stef Carse.

[Note: That is not the name of the prime minister of Canada. The prime minster of Canada, since January 2006, is Stephen Harper. THIS is Stef Carse.]

GOV. PALIN: Well, he's doin' fine, too, and yeah, when you come into a position underestimated it gives you an opportunity to prove the pundits and the critics wrong. You work that much harder --

MASKED AVENGERS: I was wondering because you are so next to him, one of my good friends, the prime minister of Quebec, Mr. Richard Z. Sirois, have you met him recently? Did he come to one of your rallies?

[Note: There is no prime minister of Quebec, though there is a premier. His name is Jean Charest. Sirois is a Canadian humorist.]

GOV. PALIN: I haven't seen him at one of the rallies but it's been great working with the Canadian officials. I know as governor we have a great co-operative effort there as we work on all of our resource development projects. You know, I look forward to working with you and getting to meet you personally and your beautiful wife. Oh my goodness, you've added a lot of energy to your country with um, with that beautiful family of yours.

MASKED AVENGERS: Thank you very much. You know my wife Carla would love to meet you, you know, even though you know she was a bit jealous that I was supposed to speak to you today. (Laughs.)

GOV. PALIN: Well, give her a big hug for me.

MASKED AVENGERS: You know my wife is a popular singer and a former top model and she's so hot in bed. She even wrote a song for you.

GOV. PALIN: Oh my goodness, I didn't know that.

MASKED AVENGERS: Yes, in French it's called de rouge a levre sur un cochon, or if you prefer in English, Joe the Plumber...(singing) it's his life, Joe the Plumber.

    [Translation: Lipstick for a pig.]

GOV. PALIN: Maybe she understands some of the unfair criticism but I bet you she is such a hard worker, too, and she realizes you just plow through that criticism.

MASKED AVENGERS: I just want to be sure. That phenomenon Joe the Plumber. That's not your husband, right?

GOV. PALIN: That's not my husband but he's a normal American who just works hard and doesn't want government to take his money.

MASKED AVENGERS: Yes, yes, I understand we have the equivalent of the Joe the Plumber in France. It's called Marcel, the guy with bread under his armpit, oui.

GOV. PALIN: Right, that's what it's all about, the middle class and government needing to work for them. You're a very good example for us here.

MASKED AVENGERS: I see a bit about NBC, even Fox News wasn't an ally, an ally, sorry as much as usual.

GOV. PALIN: Yeah, that's what we're up against.

MASKED AVENGERS: Gov. Palin, I love the documentary they made on your life. You know Hustler's Nailin' Paylin?

[Note: Nailin' Paylin is a pornographic movie.]

GOV. PALIN: Ohh, good, thank you, yes.

MASKED AVENGERS: That was really edgy.

    GOV. PALIN: Well, good.

MASKED AVENGERS: I really loved you and I must say something also, so governor, you've been pranked by the Masked Avengers. We are two comedians from Montreal.

GOV. PALIN: Ohhh, have we been pranked? And what radio station is this?

MASKED AVENGERS: This is for CKOI in Montreal.

GOV. PALIN: In Montreal? Tell me the radio station call letters.

    MASKED AVENGERS: CK...hello?...

They are dullards. Palin ddn't even catch on when he said she was/looked hot. Furthermore, I don't believe Sarkozy speaks English at all. I've only seen his interviews translated. Can you imagine an impersonator getting in touch with her as say, McCain, and directing her to do something crazy? She is too dumb for words.

"I'd like to congratulate Sen. McCain on this endorsement, because he really earned it. That endorsement didn't come easy," he said. From Ta-Nehisi Coates, via Sullivan:

Awesome-sauce: White racists and antisemites for Obama

Courtesy of Andrew, here is the chaiman of the American Nazi Party on Obama:

White people are faced with either a negro or a total nutter who happens to have a pale face. Personally I'd prefer the negro. National Socialists are not mindless haters. Here, I see a white man, who is almost dead, who declares he wants to fight endless wars around the globe to make the world safe for Judeo-capitalist exploitation, who supports the invasion of America by illegals--basically a continuation of the last eight years of Emperor Bush. Then, we have a black man, who loves his own kind, belongs to a Black-Nationalist religion, is married to a black women--when usually negroes who have 'made it' immediately land a white spouse as a kind of prize--that's the kind of negro that I can respect. Any time that a prominent person embraces their racial heritage in a positive manner, it's good for all racially minded folks. Besides, America cares nothing for the interests of the white American worker, while having a love affair with just about every non-white on planet Earth. It'd be poetic justice to have a non-white as titular chief over this decaying modern Sodom and Gomorrah.

    Sen Dick Durbin's daughter dies

(CNN) -- The daughter of Sen. Dick Durbin died Saturday from a congenital heart condition, the Illinois Democrat's office said.

"Chris Durbin, 40, fought a heroic lifelong battle with heart disease and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Durbin family," said Durbin's spokesman, Joe Shoemaker.

Chris Durbin worked for 16 years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington.

Survivors include her husband, Marty Johnson, and son, Alex.

Her death comes as Dick Durbin, the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate, seeks a third term in Tuesday's general election.

Funeral arrangements for his daughter were not immediately announced

Incredible Final Georgia Early Voting Numbers

    http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/11/1/144...

An incredible final day of early voting in Georgia took place yesterday, where 227,851 people cast their votes. Although most expect the final percentage of black vote in the state to decline from what it currently is, incredibly the final day of early voting brought an increase, with nearly 37% of the Friday voters being African-American.

Nearly 2 million people have voted in Georgia so far, representing over 60% of the total 2004 electorate and over 3 times what the early and absentee vote consisted of in the prior Presidential election. Perhaps most incredibly, compared to 2004 levels, 80% of blacks have already gone to the polls, withstanding lines hours on end, to make sure their voices would be heard.

    Early Voting Statistics

    Number of ballots cast: 1,994,990

Number of ballots voted in person: 1,773,752
Number of mail-in ballots returned: 221,238

    Turn out Demographics:

    Black Female 439,434
    Black Male 260,432
    White Female 666,827
    White Male 534,174
    Asia-PI Female 6,370
    Asia-PI Male 5,007
    Hisp-Lt Female 8,504
    Hisp-Lt Male 6,214
    Native AM Female 159
    Native AM Male 137
    Other 67,372
    Total 1,994,990

Has anyone heard about this AP story saying that BHO's aunt (a half aunt from the father's side of the family) is livin in Boston after having been ordered out by an immigration judge in 2004? Unfortunately, details of the case were sketchy....also the campaign had no comment. I think it is probably a non-issue. As an immigrant myself, a lot of people have rejected asylum cases that are pending appeal. I just don't know how this story will play with the so called undecideds in Ohio and PA (who I have decided are mostly voters inclined to vote for McCain but keep waiting for Senator Country First to actually show so honor and dignity). I know the Rethuglicans will go crazy...but I don't know if I should worry or just take another valium....

I don't mean any harm but why would Barack be held responsible for the family members of a man who planted a seed and rolled out on him and his mother? He saw his father less than a total of 1 month in his entire 47 years and somehow he should know everything about and be responsible for anyone who carries a gene of his sperm donor?

For every person that feels Barack should be held responsible I can show you 1000 more who feels otherwise. So they are free to say anything they want to say, bottom line is . . . . the sleeping giants (American people) are awake. It won't work this year. Not this time.

Marius they were carrying the story for the last 2 days and it gained NO traction.

Contrary to popular belief of the McCain campaign, the majority of the American people are not stupid. So I hope they continue to waste resources and money on crap like that. While we phone bank, and talk to friends and family to make sure they vote Obama on Tuesday.

Fact is his daddy was an ASSHOLE. Doesn't matter if Barack chose to forgive. The man was not a part of his life so why should Barack be held responsible for anyone in that family?

Please. Craig - this election is already decided. Now it is up to us do do our part. Get out there, rally the people, make those calls, continue to do what you have been doing. All that other "stuff" get it out of your head because own the promise that it will not change the outcome.

No traction. No traction. No traction.

    Just keep tellin' yourself that.

None of it matters. Not his policies that promise HIGHER TAXES and INCREASED SPENDING during an tough economy. Not "spread the wealth." Not higher taxes for those making under $250k...or is it $200k...or is it $150k...or is it $120k?

None of it matters. Not the lack of foreign policy experience that will "mark my words" invite an generated international crisis.

None of it matters. Not the thin legislative record of accomplishement. Not the far-left voting record that belies his 'moderate' pretense. Not the lack of any serious bi-partisanship. Not the idea of an Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Frank/Dodd run government.

None of it matters. Breaking promises, like the one on campaign finance reform. Not the dubious on-line donations.

None of it matters. Not his aunt. Not his pastor. Not his mentors, friends or acquaintances.

None of it matters. Not the arrogance and condescension dripping from the 'bitter/clinging ' comments. Not the faux presidential seal. The grand European tour. Not the over-the-top "temple' staging at the convention. Not the depressing infomercial.

No, no doubts at all. What raises doubts, no scratch that, what raises fear is a McCain/Palin administration. Haven't you heard.

Obama may be ahead but ...

    AHEAD is NOT ELECTED.

This is a weekend where the vast, vast majority of voters ask themselves what do they want for their country and their children and grandchildren? Do they want their money back from the market downturn and how does the economy grow enough to allow that? Can I or the country afford the sort of massive tax hikes Obama is pledged to and which his Democratic allies will only raise?

Will McCain or Obama more ably keep the terrorist threat from our shores for the next four years?

It is the time for serious reflection.

On every count except image and speechifying, McCain is the far better choice for president. McCain is counting on the collective common sense of the American electorate. Obama's hundreds of millions of dollars cannot obscure the fact that he's spent less than four years achieving nothing in a do-nothing Senate, has never run so much as a shift at a fast food place (except for the Annenberg Challenge which he ran with Bill Ayers) and has a long commitment to the very ideas that have driven Europe into its deep hole.

MSM has failed to sell the "its over" message, because some of the "polls" stayed close enough long enough for voters to care about the race in its closing hours and thus to continue the focus on Obama.

40 million people already voted dear, over a third of Georgia's registered voters cast their ballots - and surely you aren't in denial about how those votes leaned...are you?? Oh..wait...of course you are.

This election is about OBAMA. Not Bush. Not even McCain.

Obama has exposed himself through his words and his actions to be anything BUT a bi-partisan moderate.

Moderates do not talk about 'spreading the wealth,' 'redistributive change' , 'fundamentally transforming America'.

Do voters really want THAT MUCH change? Are we really ready to have Obama, Reid and Pelosi pushing us full bore into European-style socialism while Europe is finally waking up to the failures of a systems that fosters high unemployment, a complacent and dependent citizenry, and second-rate state run institutions?

Do we want to trade in our 'Land of Opportunity', our "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave" for 'fairness.'

Life is not fair. And NO government can make it so.

    And Obama certainly can't either.

"Fairness' through government is an illusion.

Obama is a 'moderate' is an illusion as well.
  • djchefron · 1 year ago
Wow ,did Rush and Bill Orally give you your talking points. You and the rethugs can not lead, all you can do is follow idiots like Bush.James Dobson and the disaster from Alaska so get the HELL out of the way while we rebuild our country from your peeps incompetence.
  • Monie · 1 year ago
Actually this election is about the AMERICAN VOTER.

And people are going to decide who has the judgment, temperament , knowledge, and inspiration to lend this nation from the shambles of Republican incompetence.

Now if you want to elect a leader that claims he can lead on foreign policy, but needs Joe Lieberman to correct his statements on the difference between Sh'ias and Shittes, vote McCain.

If you want to elect a leader who claims to be able be diplomatic and lead on international policy, but could not even look his opponent in the eye during a debate, vote McCain.

If you want a leader who takes on the characterisitcs of former foes who smeared him and his own family---only to smear his opponent, vote McCain.

If you want a leader so arrogant, that he would pick an incompetent running mate, only two times(at best) after speaking with her, and failing his first test as a candidate, then vote for McCain.

If you want a candidate who claims he can handle a crisis, yet looked erratic and incoherent druring a true crisis, the ECONOMIC crisis, the vote for John McCain.

If you want to elect a candidate whose own campaign advisors are saying that his VP nominee is a wreck---and letting Americans know that there is discourse in the campaign, then you can be comfortable electing John McCain.

Do Americans want more of the same....a staggering 760,000 jobs lost this year alone....... the lowest job growth in over 40 years.....staggering disparities in income and income decline...record foreclosure...the economic philosphy of Bush/McCain/Gramm.....militarism and warmongering...racial intolerance..demagoguery...and fear-mongering?

Life is not fair. And maybe you should have that talk with McCain's first wife who he left for the bear heiress...I mean she did wait 5 years for the man and he left her...SO COLD.

Life is not fair for the citizens who lost their life savings when McCain acted on behalf of convicted felon Charles Keating by influencing regulators....but we already know frre trips to the Caribbean and political contriutions can buy political influence in McCain's book.

Life is not fair when you disparage your own wife and call her a cunt and trollop and have been notoriously labeled "hot-tempered" throughout your whole life.

    For John McCain

    10) No elected official in American life has contributed more to the security of the nation than John McCain. Latterly, McCain was the most senior and most forceful advocate of the strategy that has saved the day in Iraq. For that reason alone, he deserves your vote.

    9) McCain has over 25 years defended the interests of the taxpayer, not only speaking for lower taxes (that’s easy) but fighting for the essential precondition of lower taxes, less government spending.

    8) McCain’s healthcare plan is the first and essential step toward a market-based approach. If competition is to work, individuals must buy their own care. Barack Obama praises the employer-based system. But Obama knows full well that the employer-based system is dying – he’s just propping up its carcass until the time is ripe to insert full government control in its place.

    7) As a man, McCain is more pragmatic and more open to compromise in substance (and not just in verbal formulas) than Barack Obama. It’s a bad reflection on the McCain campaign that it has allowed the less ideological candidate to be depicted as the hot-head – and the more ideological Obama to position himself as the moderate. But the failures of the campaign are reasons to punish the campaign managers, not the country.

    6) The combination of a Democratic president, a Democratic Senate, a Democratic House and federal control of the nation’s financial system is dangerous to prosperity and freedom. Even if I weren’t a conservative, I’d believe that this government bailout makes balanced government indispensable.

    5) To borrow an argument from Mona Charen: The best thing about a president with a military background is that he has learned not to show too much deference to generals. Let’s not forget: The brass hats were against the surge!

    4) This country hungers for moderate answers on social questions form abortion to stem cells to same-sex marriage. McCain’s split-the-difference instincts offer the hope of social peace. Obama’s 100% down-the-line social liberalism will provoke reaction that will aggravate and sustain these social controveries, when we need to find compromises that can allay them.

    3) McCain’s victory would be the most surprising come-from-behind victory in American political history. It would prove that money and endorsements are not everything. That is healthy for American democracy.

    2) McCain has never compromised on free trade. Never. Not to win a primary, not to win a vote. Never.

    1) John McCain is white, the son and grandson of admirals, married to a wealthy heiress – and yet he has experienced degrees of suffering, despair, and defeat that not one in a million of us can imagine. Barack Obama wears a black skin and carries an exotic name. In the United States, people of darker color have faced oppression and discrimination for centuries. But in Barack Obama's own life, he has known nothing but an easy and welcoming path to success since he was 18 years old. Privileged John McCain has known more absolute degradation than any man ever to contest the presidency. Obama was born in adversity, but he has smoothly risen to a place where he is most comfortable with those for whom things are most easy.

I do not fear Barack Obama. I even rather like him. I certainly feel I have much more in common with him than I do with John McCain. To lead this country, though, I prefer the man who has seen more and suffered more and felt more. For all his faults, it is John McCain who is the more universal man.

    I vote for John McCain.

One final comment. As readers of this space know, I have been very critical of the selection of Sarah Palin. Yet I do not regard her as a reason to cast aside the principles of my life on voting day. She may not bring much knowledge to this ticket. Yet she is obviously no fool. Indeed, using the favored metric of Joe Biden ("I think I have a higher IQ than you"), my guess is that she would probably outscore the Democratic vice presidential candidate on a standardized aptitude test. To his credit, Biden has conscientiously worked to familiarize himself with the great questions of national policy. To her discredit, Palin has not. But on Tuesday, I will trust that she can learn. She has governed a state - and she did risk her career by defying the corrupt leaders of the Alaska Republican party.

Beyond that, it says something important that so many millions of people respond to her as somebody who incarnates their beliefs and values. At a time when the great American middle often seems to be falling further and further behind, there may be a special need for a national leader who represents and symbolizes that middle. And if worse did come to worst, who doubts that the whole country - including Colin Powell and Larry Eagleburger - would rally to the aid and support of the first woman president, thrust into office by some unexpected tragedy?

This is a great and greatly enduring country. It flourishes because of the genius of its institutions and the decent and moderate instincts of its people. I look to the American future with confidence always - under a President McCain preferably, under a President Obama if it must be.

    You forgot:

    11. John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his VP and America has rejected that 60% of Americans to be exact.

    12. McCain admittedly knows nothing about the economy.

My my...things have gotten a little testy on this thread. All I wanted to know was if the illegal aunt story changes the dynamics....

    In other news....

The Zogby poll is disturbing and believable given OH and PA are full of voters who aren't exactly the core of Democratic party support. Senator Obama still could lose the election. But given the huge early voting turnout, I wonder if these polls aren't really a reflection of the leanings of those left to vote. And I am unsure if we can relaiably say that all the early voting populations everywhere lean toward Obama. No champagne cork popping yet....

And I do think that one does not have to be in love with Obama to think he should be president. I don't need perfection from my elected officials, but my self-respect prevents me from voting for a candidate whose whole strategy is to prey on the racial and religious fears of white people about my kind to win.
