This morning I finally calmed down enough to blog about Joe Horn, the man that the grand jury refused to indite after he willfully gunned down to black men. At what point are our bodies going to matter in this society? Then you have idiots how burn crosses on peoples lawn and claim that they are not racist because they have black friends. Enough already!

I hate to think about this story. I had to totally tune it out because it set me off in such a negative way. I live in Houston where it happened and am LIVID & OUTRAGED. I feel so powerless. I hope the punk bastard fries in hell.

All but one of my Columbian students has been of African descent (the 2 men murdered by Joe Horn were Columbian). That so called special on CNN this evening about Ingrid Betencourt, the female Columbian hostage/presidential candidate was boring. And it didn't really show any Black Columbians. I wonder how they find crowds without Black people? Well, guess it depends on the event. I saw footage of 4th of July concerts where the crowd was a sea of white people.

I'm happy that both Venus and Serena made it thus far. You're right the money all going to one house... :0)

Venus defeated Serena to retain her Wimbledon title, but they are BOTH winners!!!
  • bigsmitty72 · 1 year ago
It's scary. If they actually took tennis seriously instead of all extra-curricular stuff, they would be ranked 1 and 1a for the foreseeable future. Particularly since Henin has retired. She was the only one that consistently gave them trouble. Particularly on clay. But neither play enough tournaments or keep themselves in the sort of game shape needed to do that.

That being said, they are amazing. Two of the best since Graf, Martina and Evert. They both would be in my top 10 all time.

Happy Holidays to all of you

I saw both finals and loved them, even if my favorite sister lost in singles.

    House of Williams

Despite what the punditocracy wants you to believe, Justine Henin didn't "retire." She'll be back in at least 6 months.

To the Williams sisters, " a great game! Congrats, Venus...Serena it will be your turn the next time around.

  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
I wish I could help, but I don't have a clue. I'm sure someone here can help you. It's a slow weekend, so I'd suggest posting this in Sunday's Open Thread and even Monday's Open Thread.

    Trivia:
An AP reporter told me she has proof that crazy-ass "first supermodel" Janice Dickinson and Andy McDowell are sistahs and have been passing. I know it's dumb, but don't we all need a vacation from politics and humidity?
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
Well, the lips don't lie. After all, we're willing to believe Bob Barr is ' family' due to his nose and lips, aren't we?

    LOL

    Congrats to Venus!

Forgive me that I believe it when someone says that they're retiring that I take them at their word. And if she didn't retire what exactly did she do? Open my eyes to the truth, Craig...Please.

Regardless of what we're calling it...the bottom line is that one player who gave the Williams sisters fits isn't playing at the present time. So there's no reason why we can't see a repeat of this matchup at the US Open. Something I think we'd all love to see. Especially since American tennis sucks bigtime right now.
  • GreenLadyHere · 1 year ago
Mr. Bigsmittt72: Thank you "falettin'mejump" [taken from an "old school song :>)] in here a minute. Several atheletes & I'm sure other professionals have declared their retirment, had the party and toasted a good career! Next thing you see - "they're back". I can cite 3 examples: Martina Hengis RETIRED from tennis. She was a dominant foe--ranked 1st for a while. Severa years later she RETURNED. Michael Jordan[i think] did the same. Lyle Alzado - football RETIRED and RETURNED at age 40. Unfortunately he was on a 'roid regime and died from complications, as a result. There can be a number of reasons for their actions: "cash flow" issues - as in "I'm near broke"; maybe when they retired, they had an injury which they didn't want to make public at the time. Maybe they just felt that they we "young enoug" to give it another "go". Not that anything is predictable, it's just a wait and see matter.
Thank you for letting me "intrude". ">)

OOPS! I noticed some "typos". SORRY! :>) [retirEment, severaL, weRE, enougH]
I really placed 2nd in my County Spelling Bee-waaaaaay back in the day! :>)
  • bigsmitty72 · 1 year ago
I'm not doubting that there's a chance for Henin to come back. She's only 25 and once she gets her personal life straight (her marriage broke up recently), I'm sure she could come back. What I took issue with was the Craig's implication that I'm somehow being duped by pundits...when the PLAYER IN QUESTION HAD A PRESS CONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE HER RETIREMENT!!!

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/15/sports/tennis...

Now she could come back. But until she does, I'm going to assume that she's done. Call me duped by the MSM or the other evil media types you guys love to demonize.

Guess I misunderstood! Thanks for clarifying. Guess my "recency" to this "blogging thing" is showing! :>)

I don't yell and clap and jump up and down over sports, except when Venus or Serena Williams is playing. Now, that they're both models, I don't think it's inappropriate to say that they are very sexy Black women, but what first attracted me to them was their African Braids and multi-colored beads, that said to America, "We're African American, we´re unapologetic, we're proud and we're here to win on our terms, so move over!"

Although they have straightened their hair, I still admire them quite a bit.
