I am starting to like Jim Webb as VP. The smears against Obama try to make him look like "not one of us". This isn't only about race; it's also that he's from Harvard, never served in the military, bowled a 37 (ouch!) and wouldn't be comfy in a small-town bar (neither would I).

Webb would vaporize those smears. Totally vaporize them. Webb is not some general with a chestful of medals. He's a down-to-earth military guy who will get standing ovations at Veterans of Foreign Wars meetings.

Webb might neutralize McCain's entire military appeal. Webb was Reagans Secretary of the Navy. He saw real combat in Vietnam. His son, I believe, is (or was) serving in Iraq.

As I look at the Republican attack machine, I think it will take a lot more than that new web site (fightthesmears) to fight the smears... and Webb would really blow them away.

Also, no offense to Barack, but with Webb, there's no sense of "the nerd from Harvard". Obama and Webb seem like a great match.

    Webb's got Confederacy issues.

    Mornin' all!

I'm still in shock about Tim Russert's passing.

I don't know if Webb would be a good pick for Obama. Someone -- I forgot who -- posted a link to an article that printed excerpts from some of Webb's novels, which I found to be disturbing. http://www.cnsnews.com/news/viewstory.asp?Page=...>

Upon further review, I see that CNS News is a conservative news site which Michelle Malkin and Robert Novak frequently contribute to.

Being that there hasn't been a lot of flack about these novels, I take it that there's more to the story than the excerpts that the aforementioned site chose to post.

Webb also has 'women' issues. And, he's not controllable. He's a hothead, which might violate one of Obama's basic tenants: Aa little drama as possible, please.
  • BigAssBelle · 1 year ago
webb's only been a democrat for two years. that scares me.

joe biden has tremendous foreign policy experience and he's feisty and smart and capable. i'm kind of liking him. they'll bring up the old plagiarism thing, but i think that can be dealt with.

    Obama's army on the move . . . hallelujah.

and the other thing, not chuck hagel. the media's promoting chuck hagel because he's an anti-war republican. but no, not him, please.

hagel may be a fine man but he's a republican. the vice president is supposed to serve as understudy to the president. no way do i want a republican waiting in the wings if the unthinkable happens. no. i know obama's smarter than that.

Do you guys think any Ron Paul supporters will switch to Obama? Their platforms are so different, but I can't see all of them warming to McCain.

New Chief Dem Shotcaller Gets To Work:
    DNC Moves Operations To Chicago

Big story - overshadowed by Russert's death - political strategy seismographs are off the charts on this move - Obama seems to be taking advantage of his momentum here.
  • Webb · 1 year ago
I'm not quite ready to dismiss Jim Webb from VP consideration...I really wish that Tim Russert (Lord Rest His Soul) were still around to grill Webb about the confederacy (and misogyny) and give us a look into Webb's soul.

I will never forget how Webb took apart Lindsey Graham on MTP...Webb is one of the most dangerous weapons that the Democratic Party could ever wield against the Republicans.

There are really just two "tough" mu____kas left in the party now...Jim Webb or Hillary Clinton. Unless there is some unknown person waiting in the wings, everyone else just seems boring or weak to me.
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    truthseeker,

I don't know if the Ron Paul folks would vote for Obama...maybe they'd vote for Bob Barr...I can't seem them voting for McCain though.
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    brownman,

It's interesting, Obama is taking control of the DNC, top to bottom, while McCain whines that he has 'no control' over what the RNC does.

I approve of what Obama is doing, because he's accepting responsibility: win or lose, it's going to be on HIS terms, which is the only way to do this.
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    bigassbelle,

this is part of the 50 State Strategy, and it's just the beginning. I love it.

    Anonymous,

Michelle Bernard never pretended to be anything other than what she is. I knew from the word JUMP that she was a Republican. But, there's a difference to me between being a Republican, and being a stooge. She's going to criticize Obama because she has POLICY differences with Obama, but she's NEVER been disrespectful to Obama PERSONALLY. To be blunt, she's defended Obama at times, better than a lot of DEMOCRATS during this election cycle.

    I'm telling y'all: Obama/Hagel vs. McCain/Lieberman.

Webb would (might) bring Obama military support because of the GI Bill. Though, I'm not sure how Obama's polling within the military.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/06/14... a pattern here and an opportunity to welcome conservative brothers and sisters back into the fold.

The GOP will overeach and if thought it was difficult for Black Dems supporting HRC--imagine what life will be like for Black conservatives?
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
McCain/Lieberman? I can only wish!!..can u imagine the generational gap? two cranky old farts, lieberman will not help the GOP ticket and will LOSE CT.

McCain is waiting to see who Obama picks as VP and THAT will determine his choice. Also, polling has a lot to do with it, if Obama's numbers improve in OH, FLA and other swing states, McCain will need to someone to seal FLA or OH..so Crist(provided gay rumors dont do him in) and Pawlenty.

If McCain feels that Obama still has issues with women, Hutchinson (even though she said NO) or Fiorina)

    Economy?...Romney.

All of these names are being test marketed to the base and the MSM. Polls will play a huge factor

    -C'mon, d!

    McCain/Lieberman?

If "Short Ride Joe" does that, the Democrats WILL kick him out of the party...you know, that's not a bad idea.

    McCain/Lieberman...yeah, I like it.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Still making those NON-POINTS, I see. lmao

The way "white folks" have acted during this election justifies whatever you think Obama "really thinks" of his beloved "white folks (that you can't effectively illustrate). You antics included.

He was also in Quincy, Ill to inspect the flood-damage areas. He also join the volunteers in loading sandbags.

    Texas Girl,

That sounds great! When have you ever heard of a presidential candidate doing something like that!

Barack is going to make such a fine president!

I just wanted to acknowledge the fact that Obama is working his ass off.

I think he took Sasha's birthday off, and since then he's been all over the map, holding one-on-ones with families, visiting hospitals, attending fundraising dinners, and taking over the DNC ;-)

I am more impressed by him every day.

not many remember now but there was a big flood in iowa pre sept 11 2001. bush wouldn't give fema money at first . iowa was to be punished for voting for gore. of course no one could or would say anything at the time. america was in full denial mode about it's new un elected prez.

Obama was in Quincy, IL today helping with the floods.
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - Senator Barack Obama visited the Illinois community of Quincy today to see flooded areas along the Mississippi River for himself.

During his stop this afternoon, the Democratic presidential candidate helped fill sandbags that are being trucked to both sides of the Mississippi River.

He says he hasn't seen this kind of devastation since he's been in public office.

Obama also vowed to push the federal and state governments to provide needed aid to the stricken areas.

Authorities expected the river at Quincy to reach a near-record level of 32 feet by Wednesday and volunteers have been feverishly stacking sandbags around several businesses and the water treatment facility.

Obama needs to take his @$$ to a White church or community event and wax paternalistic and push that personal responsibility rhetoric in the same way he tried play moral equivalence in his race speech. That Mini-Me Cosby sh*t (and his personal issues) is getting old.
  • babyming · 1 year ago
    to d,

I am sorry, I did not know about Webb's "confederacy issues". Of course, this ruins Webb in my eyes.

Good thing the Obama campaign is vetting these people.

It might be nice to have a running mate with "military credentials" to neutralize Republican smears.

Unfortunately, I don't like Wesley Clark, and he's already run for President. I can't think of a good military running mate right now.

I like Hagel, but I don't know much about him. He's a Republican, and I'm not sure what his positions of various issues are. I do think that you can look at Hagel and say that he'd be ready to step in as President.

Ed Rendell may be worth a look as well...
