Jack and Jill Politics: Senator Obama, Just Shut Up about Hillary

  • Kat · 1 year ago
While I would like nothing better than for Obama to buy an hour of tv time and go on a righteous rant about Hillary, that does not serve the big picture. And the big picture is November, with as many Hillary supporters on board as possible (save putting her on the ticket, that would be suicide).

And yes, the fault for the split in the party right now lies squarely with her. But as we have seen, she is incapable of putting anything ahead of her own ambition, so the repair work is going to fall on Obama. Sucks, but that's the way it is.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Let's all think about something. This man has professed he is willing to work with ALL people. He can work with Hillary, McCain, and even talk to other folks that have slimed him. But, he denounces his former pastor, a priest that was a big supporter, and bascially his own church. But, he still is such great friends with Hillary. What a CRAZED world that we play in. And, to partake in such craziness only breeds craziness.
  • Shelly · 1 year ago
    Anonymous:

His campaign wouldn't survive if the media were to keep concentrating on his church and on the people they invite to speak who have controversial ideas. It was a no-win situation so Obama had to do what he had to do. You have to understand the political realities here.

Hahaha. What he says in public and what he does or how he feels in private may not be the same. You know he wants to smack the living daylights out of her - Michelle probably MORE. I know I would. How did Carter feel about Kennedy after he effed up the Presidential primaries and helped usher in Reagan and Bush? How does Gore feel about Hillbilly after his run? Of course the Clintons have sunk to an all time low and should be dealt with accordingly. It is our responsibility to remind Obama that the voters they trampled over [us] are just as important as her voters and those nutjobs who call themselves supporters can take a flying leap! It is also our responsibility to hold Clinton and all those CBC members who trashed us accountable. We switched our votes to Obama in part because of them now it's time we demand representation from them and Obama. Let's close out the nomination first.
  • Black American Princess · 1 year ago
This whole thing has given me a migraine. I don't feel like he owes her SHIT. I wouldn't give Hillary 50 cents on a Bic Mac if I were Obama. Fuck her and her bologna-breath trailer trash supporters...
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
LBJ once said "better to have them in the tent pissin' out than outside pissin' in." and let's face it, he'll have an easier time kicking her out the second she proves she has no use.

Plus I'd love to see the faces on those crazy Hillary lovers the second Hillary starts saying positive things about Barack.
  • Angela · 1 year ago
Obama has picked up 5 superdelegates so far today.
  • Carmen D. · 1 year ago
Either Obama is going to lead us past divisions or he is not. He'll need many of her voters and ALL of his to win the general.

Sorry, but if there was ever a time for a little political suck up this would be it.
  • Ochyming · 1 year ago
    C'mon this is politics!
How he gonna get those hard core Clinton's supporters?

There is NO need for ENEMIES in politics, it is like BUSINESS.

    Gee!
  • Felicia · 1 year ago
I feel your contempt for the Clintons, CPL, but it doesn't help us right now. Obama's not going to get those nutjobs at the the RBC this weekend, but he can get most of her supporters. To do this he's gotta play nice--even pick a Clinton supporter like Gen. Clark as his veep (I draw the line at choosing Clinton herself, though). So the praise for both Clintons must go on.
  • Baltogeek · 1 year ago
I don't like her either but if I have to pretend that I'm okay with her being around for another 6 months to get Obama elected then so be it.

The friendlier we are to her and her supporters the less they have to complain about and try to use as leverage to get her the Vice Presidency or a seat on the Supreme Court or whatever position Obama would be stupid to offer her.

You don't have to like them you just have to act like you do.

Besides we'll have plenty of folks in 2010 and 2012 to kick out of office to show how we feel.

    Be patient.
  • RhondaCoca · 1 year ago
Cow! HaHa I agree with everyone, he needs Hillary's supporters. He will have to campaign for them.

    Off topic,

I am dying about the parody comparing Hillary Clinton to the woman in Sunset Boulevard...haha!!
  • Leota2 · 1 year ago
Are you aware of who this woman is?
I'm thinking it's a bit naive to bitch slap this energizer

bunny before she literally hands over the keys to the crazymobile . . . .
  • cms · 1 year ago
I hate her too, but it's not about her -- it's about doing whatever we can to bring the reasonable Clinton supporters into the fold and winning in November. I don't care if he has to kiss her ass, as long as it doesn't involve the VP slot.
  • miss-opinion · 1 year ago
I'll be frank. Senator Clinton is a lose cannon. She's like a wild animal out on the lose. Senator Obama needs to make sure she doesn't make any damage while she's on the lose lol. I'm sure behind the scenes he could care less about her crazy, race baiting ass. But this is about winning the White House back for the Dems and away from another Bush presidency. So if that means placating her little ego so be it.
  • Akonuche · 1 year ago
This post is so hilarious! I mean in a "hahahaha" kind of way because I was reading it and laughing and nodding at the same time.

Obama doesn't owe that woman shit! He hasn't done anything wrong. He played by the rules and won. Now he's the one reaching out to HER? He's the one looking to placate her and her crazy fringe supporters. Ugh!

I know the frustration CPL, but you have to look at it in the manner that how Obama REALLY feels about Clinton is not going to be put out there. Can you imagine how that would play?

The guy has proven that (1) he knows how to recognize a fellow Democrat when he sees one, (2) he isn't going to get into an all out tussle with said Democrat (AND the first ever female presidential candidate), (3) he has to keep the peace between he and Clinton somehow if he's going to draw some of her most ardent supporters towards him. And on that last one, I'm not talking about them punk bitches who weren't going to vote for him anyway. I'm talking about the people who have sense and aren't going off the deep end.

I would dearly love for somebody to tell Hillary Clinton to stick it where the sun don't shine, but that won't happen as much as she and her "followers" may deserve it.

    Big picture, CPL.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
I guess if you look on the upside, he can keep an eye on her if she's in cabinet. But, NO VP!

Lou Dobbs is such a pompous blowhard.
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    CPL,

You know I agree with you.

    You know I do.

You know, if it was up to you and me...well, we know what would happen to Hillpatine.

But, you saw those lunatics on Saturday.

I said it before, and I'll say it again...

He can't give ANY reason for her whining and bitching lunatic fringe to be justified.

YES< he's shown 1000% more respect to her than she has to him.

NO....her racebaiting ass doesn't deserve an ounce of it.

But, you've been hearing her whiners. The woman who played the White Woman Victim DECK is now the victim of SEXISM?

    BULLSHIT.

You and I both know it.

Yeah, I cringe listening to him saying it.

But, that's why he's running and we're not. Because, you know what the two of us would say - TO HER FACE.

So, it's best that we're not the candidate...LOL
  • Kenya W · 1 year ago
    Truthseeker,
I mean what is Lou Dobbs problem? I can understand taking a hard stance as an "objective" journalist, but he never has anything good to say about Senator Obama. Other than when he is chastising him, he will then throw in the occasionally, "I have not even gone after this MAN" blah blah blah.

I saw him on Booktv last week and he was a reasonable man, but when he gets on his show he turns into an ASS! ugh!!

Did SBO really say something about him personally??

    Kenya,

yeah, Obama said something in his stump about Lou stirring up the immigration debate..can't remember the exact wording. Lou went ballistic and demanded an apology. Sometimes I think Obama is having fun needling him.
  • babyming · 1 year ago
I must say, I totally agree with this post!

When Obama says nice and polite things about Hillary, I get a creepy sense of "up is down, left is right, 2 plus 2 equals 3." When I listen to his polite words, I want to scream: "but that's not true!"

I get a similar funny feeling about the attitude that "we're all Democrats", and "all Republicans are bad." Yes, I would be very happy if a Democrat (other than Clinton) wins in November. BUT it doesn't feel quite right the way Obama is so darned NICE about Hillary, and is so quick to attack McCain for all kinds of little things.

I have many disagreements with McCain, and I hope Obama beats him in the fall. Still, it seems like Obama is dumping on McCain a little too often.
  • Angela · 1 year ago
I may be in the minority..but I don't think this post helps Obama's campaign...it is too negative for me. I know I get angry with the Clinton's and their sleaziness. But we are not the candidates...Sen. Obama has alot of work to do to unite the party and frankly I don't see this post as anywhere close to being helpful.
  • NillaWaif · 1 year ago
Barack may not need Hillary, per se, but he certainly needs her supporters. To that extent, if she can help him garner support among her core then he should use her for that express purpose.

    Truth

My honest opinion is that he's having fun with all of these mofos.

He was the unlikely, Hillary was the inevitable, he worked his game strategically and won!

It's over, let them cry, it's over.
  • B-Serious · 1 year ago
I forget who it was, but someone had an excellent analogy when it came to the idea of a dream ticket. . .

    The election is The Apprentice.

When you think of Obama, think Kwame.

When you think of Clinton, think Omarosa.

Kwame tried magnanimity only to have Omarosa straight up sabotage his chances.

Obama has a chance to win it all. He's got a chance to be Randal. Don't make the same mistake Kwame made.

Strive for unity. But DO NOT put Hillary on the ticket!

Thank you all for your comments. I am merely voicing frustration with the whole thing, y'all.

I realize he has to play nice; I just wish he'd quit talking about it and just handle his business.

No matter how nice he continues to be to Hillary, she will not reciprocate, nor will she lift a finger to help him, and that includes getting her supporters to vote for him.

Alice Huffman, I have hope for, if the majority of Clinton's supporters are reasonable as she portrayed herself to be on Saturday.

It's the bat-shyt crazy ones like Harriet Christian (I can't believe her last name is CHRISTIAN), not to mention the Mountain/Rural folk who wouldn't vote for Jesus if He were Black, that are worrying me, and I think it's a waste of Obama's energy and time to court people who are pretty much telling him to his face to stick it.

I do consider the whole picture, and when I see what Hillary CLinton does and continues to do, it's very difficult to hear the man continue to make these overtures; however, it does place him in the driver's seat when she has absolutely nothing to offer.

Mr. Bill is off the chi-zain.

In response to a Vanity Fair article (he considers it a hit piece) examining his legacy and questioniong his connections and liaisons he said this:

You know he didn't use a single name, cite a single source in all those things he said. It's just slimy. It's part of the national media's attempt to nail Hillary for Obama. It's just the most biased press coverage in history. It's another way of helping Obama. They had all these people standing up in this church cheering, calling Hillary a white racist, and he didn't do anything about it. The first day he said 'Ah, ah, ah well.' Because that's what they do-- he gets other people to slime her. So then they saw the movie they thought this is a great ad for John McCain-- maybe I better quit the church. It's all politics. It's all about the bias of the media for Obama. Don't think anything about it."

"But I'm telling ya, all it's doing is driving her supporters further and further away-- because they know exactly what it is-- this has been the most rigged press coverage in modern history-- and the guy ought to be ashamed of himself. But he has no shame. It isn't the first dishonest piece he's written about me or her."

Appalachians may have discontent for Senator O's bitter/cling to remarks but what of this quip ponied up by Veep Cheney today:

Talking about his family roots and how he's distantly related to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the vice president noted that he had Cheneys on both sides of his family.

"And we don't even live in West Virginia," Cheney quipped.

"You can say those things when you're not running for re-election."

I just came to drop that Bill was blaming Obama for Pfleger. Totally wild....but, par for the course with Bubba.
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    singaporeswim,

This proves CPL's point. Obama apologizes about Pfleger(didn't say it, wasn't there, had nothing to do with it, but STILL APOLOGIZED TO HILLPATINE),and Bubba spits in his face. This is why CPL is correct, but Obama is Jackie Robinson and has to deal with this garbage.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Folks, Bill Clinton is at it again. His latest is a non-sequetor in a tirade about the media being in the tank for Obama he then smears Obama. He basically calls him a chicken shit and accuses him of orchestrating the Pfleger controversy. I am NOT kidding. It is on the Huffington Post. This man is certifiable and ANY BLACK PERSON who EVER votes for HRC again is seriously disturbed. He will NOT stop playing the race card. Neither of them will.

While we welcome all readers here at JJP, I have to ask if you think we're an anti-unity blog, why are you still visiting here?

Especially since you don't like us?

We thank you for your patronage, but if you don't like what we have to say, start your own blog, and I mean that without any snark quotient, either.

All of us may say things that will not sit well with everybody. In a democracy, it's expected that a person has individual chains of thought and we express them here.

I'm sorry you didn't like the post, but I've noticed no one's asked me to rescind it, either. I'm not apologizing for Obama having to damn near walk on water and the MSM is STILL NOT HAPPY WITH HIM.

He tried non-threatening, willing to work with everyone, compromised, and has been almost twisted into a pretzel trying to be everything to everyone. My post was saying he needs to remain himself and do what he has to do.

Where is the non-unity in that? Or in any of the posts? Just because we're not always singing "Kuubaayaa" because we're too busy staying on top of developments and reporting them here?

If you want group-think only, head over to DKos, but be warned if you venture to disagree with them, because what you get here is a walk in the park compared to getting flamed on DKos.

    christian progressive liberal,

You know from being a Christian that the point of grace is the place where the one receiving it is utterly undeserving.

Barack Obama has every right in the world to hammer her. And if he did, it would destroy his candidacy and his message of transformative politics -- from attacks to respect, from personal to issues.

He has practiced what he preaches. When he says he will find ways to reach out to enemies and find common ground, there is no more immediate illustration of that intent than his outstretched hand to Hillary Clinton.

Who appears to be the loser here? Certainly not Barack.

Be angry, be furious, but also be forgiving, because the goal here is to get this incredible man elected. He is doing all the right things to make that happen.
  • Barack Oblogger · 1 year ago
Barack is running as a uniter. His first test is going to be how to unite the party.... and that means Clinton supporters
  • heartsandflowers · 1 year ago
Every time Obama appeals to Clinton and is so nice to her it's about getting the other 86% of the electorate. He has an end game in mind and it isn't about the Clintons. It is up to us to make sure that they get proper retribution for their actions and specifically all those CBC members who feel their seats are in jeopardy now. If the Clintons had so much power they wouldn't be so concerned for their future. They're playing hardball but they are paper tigers. It's just a game of perception. Now we need to be talking about how the Clinton better kiss ass or be blamed for aiding and abetting McCain against the entire Democratic Party.
  • Leila · 1 year ago
As a sort of white person (half Arab, white American mom, kinda like Barack but light skin so I pass more easily) I am pretty sick of hearing white people say they "aren't comfortable" with BArack and "need for him to reassure" them somehow that he's not some kind of scary black radical who Hates America and wants to Tear White People Down. And yet that's the rumble and the buzz.

I think that's some of what drives Hilary's die-hards, along with the "we're feminists and we need a woman president to feel good about ourselves as womyn" crowd.

I just think Obama is sticking to the message: unity, class, grace, rise above the strife.

I think he will find a way to let Hilary know how he really feels. Did you ever see that clip of him walking out to talk to reporters on his Caribbean vacation this spring? Just how he walked down the path let you know that he was Not Amused at being stalked by the press. His first few exchanges were extremely... clear. He said nothing untoward but he vibed "why the hell are you miserable rats bothering my family with your telephoto lenses? You are intruding."

But then he went right into his spiel about how they worshiped on Sunday (it was Easter I think) and relaxed etc. The words sounded easy and casual but in his eyes he was still saying - back the fuck off, I am giving you your sound bite even though you don't deserve it.

I think Obama is a true prince, a Leo, and he will make his displeasure known, but at his own time and in the manner of his choosing. Meanwhile, Hilary is still Senator of a big and powerful state so the President will need her as an ally.

This guy is not where he is because he acts like I would. He is a politician, remember, and a very good one. And we're going to need those diplomatic skills when he's leader of the Free World (if God wills, insha'allah as the Arabs would say)

I think you're onto something there. I recall that icy vibe from him in the Virgin Islands.

It seems to me that some people think he's a chump, due to his restraint. Some SD's may be trying to twist his arm to take Hillary as VP in exchange for their vote. They better be careful.

More and more, I'm coming to see that Barack Obama is not one to be trifled with.

Leo's are deeply nurturing and kind, but they'll cut you if you overstep.

This is what I have learned from experience even though I do not want it to be true:

When people are unaccountable to any sort of truth -- when their very foundation is lies and distortions, created reality, and the burning desire to "win" at any cost -- they soak up the energy of anything they perceive as attack, and it fuels and energizes them.

And for these people, acting from and telling the truth feels like an attack.

Hillary Clinton is an extreme example of someone like this.

I really don't understand this dynamic. I have seen it happen more than once in my life. It took me a long time to see what it was. I feel that truth has its own power. But. Not in this society, it doesn't. This is what I have learned.

But then Senator Obama has done something different to harness whatever power this system has available related to truth. I have watched him. How he acts .... it doesn't feed the beast the way that direct truth-telling seems to do. I don't understand it and I can't really do it myself, but I see it in action and I have to admit its reality and effectiveness inside the insanity of this society.

(Craig Hickman helped me see this more clearly in another thread.)

I can't stand this thing about him wanting to work with her. I can't stand it. I am horrified by her having any place anywhere near things that will affect my life or the lives of those I love and care about.

I can't stand it. But I am schooling myself on this, telling myself that maybe he knows what he is doing. Pushing on her would feed the beast. Maybe she won't know what to do with where he's coming from. Maybe he knows what he is doing.

I don't understand it, really I don't. But I can't ignore the effectiveness of his approach so far, compared with a more pushing-back kind of thing.

I guess I'll wait and see.

I thought that it was interesting that Obama mentioned reading "A Team of Rivals". Lincoln gave cabinet positions to those that opposed him in his run for the presidency saying that they were the best qualified to run the country. Doris Kearns Godwin stated that Lincoln did this because he was very politically savy. At the time I wondered why he mentioned this book. Could this be a harbinger of things to come?
It is not about whether we would have HRC run with us---which I must admit I would not---but about what he would do and what he thinks would be best for this country; what would unite the country and win the general election; and, also, how his presidency can effectuate the changes we so desperately need.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
As I keep saying this political game is totally insane. And, to expect anyone that plays in the game can remain sane is also crazy. This is a pure game of winner takes no prisoner. Obama is not as pure and innocent as many of you want to believe. To even get into politics at this level you have to be shrewd, self-centered, extremely driven, and lack some morality. He can talk all he wants about being a christian, but don't be fool. He was bright enough to know that he needed to wear his christianity on his sleeve to avoid being branded a MUSLIM by his name. So, when people start wearing these so-called VALUE stickers (Bush included) so outwardly it makes me a little uneasy. And, before people SCREAM and Whine about this post, just check out Michelle's comment on Hillary not being able to control her household back in the early campaign. Would someone of true christian value debase another's household? Do we actually think Michelle uttered those words without the guidance of Obama? The answer is HELL NO! Michelle and Barack are shrewd individuals and not as idealistic as people want us to believe. With all that said, I plan to vote for Obama, but I am not holding out hope as if he is going to bring great change. Change only comes with a serious struggle. He and Michelle are clueless to true struggle. The majority of us under the age of 60 lack any true understanding of struggle. The majority of us benefited from the civil rights movement and now show lack of respect for those that fought the real hard fight (this even includes Obama). Obama will play the middle of the road game. That usually means providing incentives to middle class America while cuting services and opportunities for the extremely poor. Placing blame on the less fortunate while throwing opportunities to the priviledge. This game has been played so much and so often it's too easy to call. This time we may just get to see a person of a color hold the reigns. Just don't fallout when nothing truly changes in America.

    Mitchell
