Everytime I turn around Hillary is new person. She's a mother scolding Obama, she is this person with "35 years of experience", she's the "agent of change," then she's Scarlet O'Hara. One moment she's gracious and friendly, next moment she is ridiculing, mocking and attacking someone she has "great respect for."
It's like a game. "Which Hillary will come out today?"
there's so much i want to quote here, i don't know where to start!
You gotta think of the media's acceptance of Clinton's behavior and its willingness to run whatever she says up the flagpole ("You lost 11 in a row... but oh, the new goalpost is now Ohio!") as a desire to stretch this thing out as long as possible. I think the MSM doesn't necessarily care who wins -- either candidate will provide a compelling narrative to them (not the voter, likely) - it cares about ratings.
The GOP race is over. Very little drama there -- and when some did flare up with the NY Times, the GOP and McCain were successful at pushing back. They put the MSM on their heels for trying to insinuate a sexual affair with no solid proof. No traction there. No traction = no ratings.
The only way then to keep people tuning into CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and the three major network newscasts then is to keep the Dem race going as long as possible. Remember, you have commentators openly wishing for a brokered convention. That is ratings gold. Wouldn't you watch the whole thing to see if Clinton was able to somehow wrest the nomination from Obama via backroom deals? Of course!
So, yes, there are double-standards at play here. Obama definitely has to be cautious about becoming the "angry black man." It is a trap and everybody from the Clintons to the head of CNN is praying Obama steps in it. If Obama bared his teeth and got as furious as he likely is when he is alone and thinking about the trickery the Clintons are trying, the media would pounce. They would eat him alive.
But, trust me, if Clinton loses Texas and/or Ohio and drops out, the media will feast on her remains, too. They won't wait. They will dine the second she concedes. But until then, of course they want to encourage her performances. A policy-laden stump speech? Zzz. Clinton mocking Obama and his supporters for being so stupid to actually hope for a better future? Ratings! Headlines!
It's all one big, unfortunate game. And we helped start it. But we can also help finish it, too. We need to finish it. Time is running out.
A WOW moment indeed!
This is so much clearer and less profane than what was in my mind so I'm printing it out and putting right over my desk.
I think that after New Hampshire Hillary has gotten free pass after free pass from the media. Rudy and Mitt pulled the same stunts and were lambasted for it. Hillary, the behavior's been excused. Heck, they're constantly repeating this phrase, "Don't count the Clintons out." It's truly bizarre.
I'm sorry to say, this is just the way it is right now... Obama must keep it TOTALLY POSITIVE... if he complains or even argues, that looks like a man beating up on a woman, and HE WILL LOSE.
Hillary's only hope is for Obama to "go negative". When Obama sticks to the high road, people love him!
By the way, about Obama and November, remember all the help the Clintons gave John Kerry in 2004? Neither do I. If Obama gets the nomination, and he beats McCain, Hillary may have to wait until 2016. If McCain beats Obama, Hillary has another shot in 2012.
Thanks for showing some love! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one thinking this!

Does Hillary Clinton want to hurt Barack Obama's chances to win the general elections?
and
Privilege and Fear
Hey. If anyone else wants to pass this along, feel free to do so.
Every little bit helps.

I third dws and the loc man' comments: Texas and Ohio let's stick a fork in the Clintons cause they're done!
http://ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com/2008/02/that-damn-tightrope.html
But I want to say something about Barack Obama.
He is arrogant. He has to be, otherwise he wouldn't be in the position he's in. A Black man doesn't get this close to the Democratic nomination if he didn't have a huge ego. So far, he has been able to also be charming and that's why his arrogance doesn't come across as overbearing. But no president is free from arrogance. Nor his Hillary Clinton.
He can't just rise above her attacks in this debate. He has to go after her and he can't hold back because she's a woman. He can't go after her unfairly, of course, but if he's to show the nation that he's the one to lead it, he can't appear soft when attacked no matter his attacker.
I think he will handle his business tonight just fine. His campaign just told the talking heads that he would be aggressive tonight.
I expect him to pick apart her "35 years of experience" mantra and make us see what a crock of ish that is. If he can successfully do that, she's burnt toast, because she has nothing else to fall back on.
I only wish that they weren't seated side-by-side tonight. I want them to stand behind podiums with more than several arm lengths between them.
There were times when I felt ambivalent about his candidacy, but now I feel a calm peace because I recognize that feeling of being underestimated in the workplace and having to prove to people my competency. Eventually they fall in line and all of a sudden I'm the expert.

Say it again.
when th eold heads start saying, if you lose (Obama camps,)will you stay involved. Right now all I think is THIS is why I stayed out. Its a daily insult she wages to black men, black people, people of color, and women...
This is what happens when you think your address is in a castle...
She's a trip. Is she showing their hand? If so, I guess we're going to have a debate about about same-sex marriage tonight?
Tubbs-Jones is a singular disgrace. How on earth has she been elected???
Also, ndn you (well actully everyone who posted here) just helped me deal a situation that recently evolved at work over the last couple of days. It had been eating me up inside and part of me wanted to "go there" but I am going to continue and pray on it. I pray that I can exercise an ounce of the grace, temperment and humility that brother Barack has shown.
Her tactics during this campaign has been nothing less than ugly.
As I sit here commenting, I am watching Sean Hannity blast Michelle Obama's statement and college thesis and the Obama's church for being too radical and black. He is saying that the "American people don't know anything about this guy and that's serious". He has Newt Gingrich on. He said that it needs to be brought up!! What non-sense.
you are definitely not alone in knowing the deal with Hillary and Barack...since
her campaign team and supporters refuse to acknowledge that they are not the best and brightest at campaigning with all their experience...they have to come up with the kind of crap that we've been seeing and will continue to see until March 4th.
I must admit that I do feel sorry for her, because I know how hard she has worked to get herself to this point, in spite of the systemic barriers. But she has cross what for me is a bright line in terms of her treatment of what was actually her most loyal constituency. She's forfeited an indispensable part of her base.
I hope that she and all American politicians learn a new lesson from this experience. We're doing a noble job when we help them to learn that lesson, even if it's a hard one for her this time around.
