But what I remember most is that one of my posts that he gave front page status on it, and continued to check my own blog for posts that he would use for his blog.

To me, that gave me props as a blogger, being recognized by a star in the blogsphere like Steve Gilliard.

The irony of it all was that the weekend in February that he got sick, I was going to have dinner with him and his partner, Jen. I'm going to always regret that I didn't get to meet him personally, but thanks to email and blogs, I already felt that I knew him, had his friendship, and now, he's gone too soon.

Re: Steve Gilliard — Wearing His Crown in Glory

Nice tribute to a "blogger's blogger". I'd been reading Steve for a couple of years and one day was looking at a photo he'd posted of a day-out with his niece and nephew. All of a sudden, I realized, "Steve's black!"

A bunch of other readers must also have noticed about that time, because, as a joke, every once and a while, someone would post, "Steve's black!".

Black, white, green, or blue, Gilliard was the best around. I loved his history - particularly military history - "lessons" as I came to think of them.

Only the good die young?

Re: Steve Gilliard — Wearing His Crown in Glory

I just found his blog and went through the archives. His was a fearless voice.

RIP.
