    Hey Craig,

hope you're feeling better. That Dimetapp-C is the best!! Also, gargle and wash your hands frequently.

Did you get to see Michelle's speech? What was the reaction of people around you? They interviewed a couple Clinton supporters last night and one lady said she was choked up.

    Take care!
  • CraigHickman · 1 year ago
I am feeling physically better, but I'm an emotional mess.

    Last night Wore. Me. Out.

I'll have a link to blog post soon.

The atmosphere during Michelle's speech was other worldly. People hung on every word.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Maya [last name I don't know], Barack's half-sister is on now. She's beautiful and has a great speaking voice, but she was reading the teleprompter so diligently. It would have been nice if she'd told a cute little story about them or something. Could have been better.
  • shaw kenawe · 1 year ago
Oh. My. God. Michelle was amazing! I hope she runs for president after Barack's eight years! She is spectacular.

Were I not already committed to Barack, Michelle would have closed the deal tonite. She was spectacular! I cannot wait to see her and her daughters in the White House.

Oh my GOSH, Michelle KNOCKED IT OUT THE PARK.

I am so proud, almost to the point of being speechless. She epitomizes all the strong Black women I've known in my life, she reminds me so much of my mother, and the girls are precious, I just love how they're both daddy's girls. God bless that beautiful family, I can't wait to see them all in the White House!!
  • Vanityreloaded · 1 year ago
We love you Michelle! As a black woman finishing up my undergraduate tenure, she is an aspiring role model for myself as well as other young women!
  • Gina · 1 year ago
Michelle is a good speaker, but the content of her speech seemed very scripted, and probably written by a crack team of speech writers. I'm sure she rehearsed it for several days. The speech said all the right things, but was hardly recognizable from her unscripted words spoken over several years ... like "America is a mean country' ... 'In my adult life, I've never been proud to be an American until now" ... and does not reflect her many years as the follower of Jeremiah Wright's black liberation philosophy ... which she also exposed her young daughters to for several years ... hardly the typical American family that they're now trying to package and sell to the Amerian people. Michele's speech more accurately resembles an expedient attempt at damage control by way of an immediate severe, and not very believable magical massive makeover. Furthermore, Barack and Teddy, who would like you to believe they are above reproach, have been elevated to sacred cow status. Sorry about Ted Kennedy's illness, but Mary Joe Kopechne's life was snuffed out at age 29 ... so, you might want to revisit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jo_Kopechne

Gina I have no idea what YOUR experiences have been like in this country, but I know EXACTLY what Mrs Obama means when she said "America can be a mean country," and "In my adult life,I've never been so proud (speaking about the POLITICAL system." You see I respect the person who can be critical and loving at the same time. I wish my life resembled the heiress of a beer fortune, but with my working class roots I can acknowledge that this country can be MEAN. It was mean when my dad was laid off of work just before I started college. It was mean when last year I couldn't afford health care and have been relegated to scamming underground allergy medication. And its mean in the ways that some Americans believe there is only ONE way to be American therfore everyone else is false, less than, or fake.

It can be greedy. It can be self centered. It can be arrogant- as I have seen these last 8 years.

And it can be a place that I love at the same time. Michelle Obama is like MANY people, including me. If she isn't like you, that's ok... you've had several hundred years of first lady's who were JUST like you. ;) Take a break for the next 8 years.

She wasn't attempting damage control. She told you who she is, where she comes from and what she thinks. If you prefer not to hear it hear it from her, go on and listen to the lies... stay gullible. Fox News and the right wing depends on your ignorance.

Yeah it was scripted- it was a SPEECH.
  • Plantsmantx · 1 year ago
Didn't you write the same comment here a couple of days or so ago?
  • Miranda · 1 year ago
Yep, its the same script. She just changed some names and added the last part. We'll probably see this same post after Barack's speech on Thur. I think they're just copying and pasting these on various black blogsites. This kind of nonsense will get more prevalent as the weeks go on.

SENATOR OBAMA, PLEASE TELL AMERICA YOUR FEELINGS ON THIS US JUDICIAL INJUSTICE ???

LETS ALL HOPE OUR INTERNATIONAL MEDIA FRIENDS ALSO SHOW AN INTEREST IN REPORTING ON THIS AMERICAN HORROR FACING THESE (TENS OF THOUSANDS) FORGOTTEN AND TRAPPED POORER AMERICANS, AND HOW THIS POSSIBLE FUTURE PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDER HANDLES THIS VERY SERIOUS ISSUE FACING AMERICA'S LATINO AND BLACK AMERICAN COMMUNITIES ????

WITH 80% OF THE BLACK AMERICAN VOTERS SAYING THEY SUPPORT SENATOR OBAMA IN THIS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, IT IS ONLY FAIR FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW PRIOR BEING ELECTED OUR NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HOW THIS DEMOCRATIC SENATOR TRULY FEELS ABOUT THIS AMERICAN JUDICIAL HORROR CONTINUING TO INFLICT GRAVE HARM ON THE BLACK AMERICAN FAMILIES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE ??????

*** WHEN GOD’S FACE BECAME VERY RED ***
THE US SUPREME COURT GAVE ENEMY COMBATANTS FEDERAL APPEAL HC RIGHTS LAWYERS AND PROPER ACCESS TO US FEDERAL COURTS,AND POORER AMERICANS (MANY EVEN ON DEATH ROW) ARE DENIED PROPER FEDERAL APPEAL LEGAL REPRESENTATION TO OUR US FEDERAL COURTS OF APPEAL, AND ROTTING IN AMERICAN PRISONS NATIONWIDE ?????????

**** INNOCENT AMERICANS ARE DENIED REAL HC RIGHTS WITH THEIR FEDERAL APPEALS !
THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE $LOWLY FINDING OUT HOW EA$Y IT I$ FOR MIDDLE CLA$$ AND WORKING POOR AMERICAN$ TO FALL VICTIM TO OUR U$ MONETARY JUDICIAL $Y$TEM.

****WHEN THE US INNOCENT WERE ABANDONED BY THE GUILTY ****
The prison experts have reported that there are 100,000 innocent Americans currently being falsely imprisoned along with the 2,300,000 total US prison population nationwide.

Since our US Congress has never afforded poor prison inmates federal appeal legal counsel for their federal retrials, they have effectively closed the doors on these tens of thousands of innocent citizens ever being capable of possibly exonerating themselves to regain their freedom through being granted new retrials.

This same exact unjust situation was happening in our Southern States when poor and mostly uneducated Black Americans were being falsely imprisoned for endless decades without the needed educational skills to properly submit their own written federal trial appeals.

This devious and deceptive judicial process of making our poor and innocent prison inmates formulate and write their own federal appeal legal cases for possible retrials on their state criminal cases,is still in effect today even though everyone in our US judicial system knows that without proper legal representation, these tens of thousands of innocent prison inmates will be denied their rightful opportunities of ever being granted new trials from our federal appeal judges!!

Sadly, the true US *legal* Federal Appeal situation that occurs when any of our uneducated American prison inmates are forced to attempt to submit their own written Federal Appeals (from our prisons nationwide) without the assistance of proper legal counsel, is that they all are in reality being denied their legitimate rights for Habeas Corpus and will win any future Supreme Court Case concerning this injustice!

For our judicial system and our US Congressional Leaders Of The Free World to continue to pretend that this is a real and fair opportunity for our American Middle Class and Working Poor Citizens, only delays the very needed future change of Federal Financing of all these Federal appeals becoming a normal formula of Our American judicial system.

It was not so very long ago that Public Defenders became a Reality in this country.Prior that legal reality taking place, their were also some who thought giving anyone charged with a crime a free lawyer was a waste of taxpayers $$.

This FACADE and HORROR of our Federal Appeal proce$$ is not worthy of the Greatest Country In The World!

***GREAT SOCIETIES THAT DO NOT PROTECT EVEN THEIR INNOCENT, BECOME THE GUILTY!

i don't care. i'm not saying so because i'm white, but because i'm european. (well, i'm waiting for those to say again : "it shows", as one said about my being white, and therefor certainly clueless, with no-one here contradicting her.)

as a european, i don't care who makes president. like any good european, i was very dependent on the election of the next president of the empire that governs us, for good or for evil. for a time, during oh so many months, i was quite taken aback by the klintons and their race baiting, their lying, their so very disgusting poses. at the same time, i was becoming a fan of obama's, for many of the same reasons others in the us have done so. we are not that far away!

but we are just an inch further away than you'd wish. i changed my mind on obama the day of his speech in berlin. i did say so, and for stating it here, i gained a lot of interesting comments . (it did not matter that during a long time i had been writing comments defending obama to the extreme.)

i defected when i saw those docile germans flocking up happily to serve as a mere backdrop to the presidential campaign of another continent. when i saw the lack of respect of that campaign, which did not regard it necessary to have an interpreter for the words of the saviour (allow me, i'm not british, but i am much more used to write in british english; finally revealed), i had the feeling that i had seen enough.

i defected from the saviour once he became too much the saviour.

from then on, i have reverted to the usual: don't care. even more so: hope it's not gonna be obama, the friendly face of the empire. too many people still are waiting for a friendly face, all too many have not understood that it does not matter what face the empire shows. that it's just cyclic. we, as europeans, need the ugly face, so we can really understand what we are dealing with. we're a bit stupid, you know.

so, as a european, i now really damn don't care which is the next president of your country, of our common empire, because it won't make any difference whatsoever for the rest of the world. that is what obama has shown to me. i'd rather have the mac-cain, for honesty.

nevertheless, i can still say: please, let the future prove me wrong.

    hope dies last.

Well, believe me - many Americans would prefer we close our bases in Europe and bring our men and women home. After all, it strikes many of us on this side of the Atlantic as odd that a region of such wealth seems so unwilling to take even minimal measures to defend itself. Even former Chancellor Schroeder, no friend of Bush, pleaded with him not to shut down a number of American bases in Germany, fearing the economic cost.

My relatives in India cannot fathom how an area as prosperous as Western Europe can be so cheap when it comes to their own defense. Their region of the world is quite dangerous, but they do not expect American men and women to defend them.

So, enjoy your two hour lunches and month-long vacations. I am envious - and take care of Russia by yourself.
  • marc · 1 year ago
Thanks, KXB, your answer has been the only serious one so far.

I also do have a lot to criticise about Europe. So let me say that I take the position of an idealist European, trying to represent what Europe should be, even though we are still far from it.

That said, it's not primarily about defense (we do have armies, you know...). It's about an approach to politics not anymore shared by the US. And yes, we will have to deal with Russia. Funny you should mention Schroeder, one of Germany's worst chancellors who is now an employee of Putin. A corrupt to the bone figure.

Then again: a simple no to the empire. And I hope we won't merely become another one. Let us just be.
  • KXB · 1 year ago
    Marc,

Yes, there are militaries in Europe. The UK is doing admirable work in Afghanistan, and they were instrumental in bringing peace to Sierra Leone. And France, although the butt of jokes in the U.S., actually has a pretty strong military, although they are as hesitant as the U.S. in engaging in collaborative military endeavors. But, keep in mind that when the Balkan wars started in the 1990's - it was Europe that told the U.S. to stay out, that they would take care of it, and in the meantime over 200,000 Bosnian Muslims were killed in Europe's backyard. European nations do have the ability, but they shy from leadership. They look to the U.S. for leadership, and although Bush has squandered that, it is not like Europe has stepped up to the plate.
  • marc · 1 year ago
    Hi again, KXB,

the Balkan wars were a shame for Europe, and indeed the US had to step in to put an end to them.

So it is necessary that Europe does its own job, which starts with getting away from looking at others for leadership but cannot end here.

While my dialogue with a European would gravitate around how to get our act together, a cross-atlantic exchange like the one we are having would be centered on the observation that the US does not stop propping up dictators, invading other countries and still claim to be a beacon of freedom, democracy and human rights; a dialogue between the Empire and its fringes.

That's actually quite a simple point and one you could agree on as a human being. My point is that I expect no change anymore with Obama, and the whole episode -as elevating as it is to watch a black man gaining the top spot- is telling me that the US has still a long road to go to get away from imperial behaviour; and many Europeans from being all too gullible and docile.

Do I have a vote in your country? I believe the answer is no, because I am a American, therefore, I have read your comments, but really don't care. When you have a vote that effects the outcome of this Election ... you know, over here in the United States ... then I'll thoughtfully consider your blustering.

I'll have to borrow a line from one of my friends ... "you gotta love the keyboard warriors."
  • marc · 1 year ago
So only those speak who have a vote, or forever be silent? See, that's exactly what I am criticising: the politics of your country directly affects all four corners of the world, but the world is told to shut up (and go along with your wars). Before being told this by an Obama supporter I had realised that Obama will bring no change.

  • Michelle · 1 year ago
marc: Please. Europe is the parent of the United States empire. Look at your own selves when you talk about empire. Europe is the root cultural source of the horror the US is doing. Stop evading.

Look in the mirror. Where does this empire originate?

And your comment below about an idealist European, trying to represent what Europe should be, even though we are still far from it. is ... almost amusing if it weren't so telling.

I have deleted a few other things before posting this. The fury of my family and ancestors and all. I know what Europe is all about. In my bones.

And. I am not available to argue this further with you.
