Jack and Jill Politics: Today’s Handkerchief Head for Hillary - Emmanuel Cleaver

  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
Well, it only proves that black men can also have colossal egos. Among blacks Barack is mediocre??? WTF?
He was talking to a Canadian audience and was kinda bullshitting...whatever. He better laugh it up while he can.
  • TruthSeeker · 1 year ago
    ..and on another note..

maybe this plays into this feeling I've had re the response of some black men to Barack(that pretty motherfucker) so to speak. I sometimes wonder if there's a degree of resentful competitiveness.
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
    Of course there is.

    If not them, then nobody.

Sounds like Hillary Rodham Nixon, doesn't it?

When I heard the clip on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," all I could think of was how *inarticulate* Rep. Cleaver was. Mumble-mouth mofo!
  • Jack Turner · 1 year ago
ah, rikyrah you beat me to it.

Politico wrote about him earlier today. I found the FULL interview. It's more interesting than this quote that both Politico and Olberman pulled

    Here's the interview

It's quite long. I started listening to it earlier in the day but have a job! Here are my partial notes. I stopped listening right as he started talking about Hillary but I was honestly impressed with his take on Rev. Wright and Obama.

    ------------

demonstration of how we do in fact have two americas

"wright reflects in his sermons in his theology what is experienced by many african americans"

"i think many african americans live vicariously through the expressions of jeremiah wright"

"it is an overreach to declare that sen. barack obama is satan's first cousin because [of the comments of his pastor]"

should obama have shunned the church?

"i have some appreciation for the fact that barack obama joined that church."

"that church has a long and rich history of being actively involved in the betterment of the chicago black community"

"this church does more than whip up people's spiritual emotions on sunday...they are actively involved in improving the community"

"we have now started measuring everyone by something we say is excluded from public life, that is religion"

"you are measured on your religion, and i think that's sick"

    why clinton

    1) long history with the clintons. my youngest son has jogged with her. it's a friendship

    2) i believe she would be the best president

    "i don't know senator obama."

    -----------------

What Cleaver was very open and honest about is that a lot of these early black Clinton supporters chose her out of simple loyalty. They didn't know Obama, but they also didn't BOTHER to get to know him before making their judgments.

Clinton was the safe bet. She's married to Bill. It was easy. Now many of them are in an awkard position.

Where many have messed up is in slamming Obama relentlessly and unfairly. Or they go out and promote Hillary based on weak arguments. It's their only choice, though. They had no strong arguments FOR her other than the fact that they "knew" her and she was the safe bet.

They bet wrong, and now it's biting many of them in the ass.

feel free to update your post with all or some of my comments. I think it's important to provide folks a link to the full interview though. Cleaver isn't a simple HRC supporter slamming Obama. He sounded more honest than many black Clinton supporters I've heard.

It's absolutely amazing how they can dredge the lowest, most inarticulate nitwit that is black to trot out and sound like a complete fool to sing how wonderful, marvelous Hillary Clinton is, and they just love them to pieces. Who votes these people into office????? And, who allows them to stay in, and, just how much is the tag teaming Clinton's paying them to shill that foolishness? Why do the continue to obsess over the fact that he is black, why cant they or HRC for that matter stick with issues? Oh, yeah, that's right, she should have been anointed without a fight, and, hence, she never came up with a plan, and, now she has to use surrogates to help, most of whom are as bland and boring as she is with the bashing and race baiting trash that she only has left to use, so far. And, to show just how out of touch they are, they haven't even taken the time to get to know Obama, just pitiful and they are in office, thank goodness not in any capacity to make real decisions on anything since, its obvious, they can't think for themselves.

I sure hope no matter what that every one of these token blacks who love 'dem' some Clinton's will be voted out of office, mainly for making their constituents look like they have no clue as to who and why they are voting for these hot messes.

I think the remarks of Rep. Cleaver and a slew of other so-called brothers can be chalked up to plain old garden variety jealousy. Their remarks reveal a level of ignorance that should be embarrassing to any reasonably reflective person who holds public office. There is no hope for these kneegrows. We need to retire them and their lame double vented suits.

His position on Wright probably has a lot to do with the fact that he was the pastor of a large congregation in Kansas City and probably knows Rev. Wright or at least knows of him.

The rest of that speak is out of some weird loyalty to the Clintons.

I would like to know why he and Claire McCaskill are opposites in their support. Why doesn't McCaskill support Clinton?

Claire McCaskill was the prosecutor of Jackson County, Kansas City, Missouri during the period that Emanuel Cleaver was the was the Mayor of Kansas City.

    And Claire's a girl.

    Reverend Emanuel Cleaver II
Reverend Emanuel Cleaver II, of Kansas City, Missouri is the Senior Pastor of St. James United Methodist Church. Rev. Cleaver was elected Mayor Kansas City in 1991, and re-elected in 1995. Rev. Cleaver served on the Kansas City, City Council for 12 years beginning in 1979. He served two terms as president of the 426-member National Conference of Black Mayors, and as Chairman of the United Conference of Mayors Committee on Crime and Social Justice, and on the group's Task Force on Finances for the District of Columbia. He is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute, a national board member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and a member of the Democratic National Committee. In more than 25 years at St. James, Rev. Cleaver built the congregation from 47 members to more than 2,000. In October of 2001, St. James broke ground on an $8 million expansion of its Worship Center, the largest capital improvement project in that central city community in more than 50 years. In 1974 there were no choirs, today there are eight choirs, two dance troupes, and two smaller music ministries. There are also five usher groups, and 10 ongoing bible study ministries. Rev. Cleaver was inspired by God to establish many other active ministries including a 100 student pre-school, a tutoring program, a large community food program, an afro-centric vacation bible school and a 56 unit senior high rise, St. James Place. Rev. Cleaver is the recipient of numerous awards, and in 1999, one of the longest streets in Kansas City was named "Emanuel Cleaver Boulevard."

AND THIS BIO WAS BEFORE HE WENT TO WASHINGTON
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
When Cleaver initially ran for his current spot, he endured much of the same type of bs that Clinton is throwing at Obama and he like Obama said that he wouldn't play, (and he didn't) that he would run an honorable campaign.

He also ran against a white female with big money backers.

I was shocked when I first heard him speak about the CBC members being threatened and further statements he has made. He really doesn't seem real when he's speaking.

I guess Washington really changed him. Maybe he dreamed of the spot.

I imagine that there are manyyyyyyyy men (and some women) who long for the popularity, support and following that Obama has amassed.

I'm with ptcruiser...I sense some jealousy.....that there are some who would prefer Barack Obama to at any cost.
  • Angela · 1 year ago
I meant to say that there are some who would prefer Barack Obama to "lose" at any cost.
  • Jabriel Ballentine · 1 year ago
You know, I was thinking about blogging on this topic on my blog. But, I decided it wasn't worth it. You know, despite the ignorance of the comments: I have to wonder if it's true to some degree...that some white folks are voting for Obama to prove they are not racist.

Could it be possible? Yes, it could.

But, that doesn't excuse Congressman Cleaver and the other Lamb Chop's Sing Along leaders...mantanning, and steppin and fetchin for the crumbs of the establishment.

I simply dismiss him, and believe we are the force to snatch the torch from these relics.

    Let's Get Our Reparations!
  • Ronnie B · 1 year ago
Rev. Cleaver, among many others of his time, have been forced to come face to face with their own irrelevance, and they resent like hell that Barack Obama (and other examples of a new Black leadership) is the reason for it.

What's sad is that the only way they've been able to express their feelings is through the bitter and (obviously) jealous comments.

And yet, once again, this is how the Clintons express their regard for Black communities.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Indeed, he is irrelevant in the big picture, just like the useless CBC, and those in it with this blind support of the tag teaming Clinton's, all of which have long outlived their expiration date of being necessary. Jealousy is a horrible thing, and, this so called preacher should know it, because his simple minded comments show, his own lack of being able to run for this job and garner votes, so ride the coattails of HRC and her man, ugh, the plantation mentality just won't leave some of these people, all of whom should be voted out since they are not doing their constituents any good with this mind set.
  • justice58 · 1 year ago
    Jabriel Ballentine,

Some f%%%nut at John In Carolina Blog suggested Hillary should endorse reparations and that will send blacks in droves back to her!

The idiots act like The Clintons are entitled to the black vote! Like blacks have committed a terrible sin for abandoning St.Hillary! F%%% her!
  • Craig Hickman · 1 year ago
If Hillary Rodham Nixon endorsed reparations, she wouldn't earn back the Black vote.

    We see her.

That's what this primary hath wrought: Clarity.
  • rikyrah · 1 year ago
    Craig,

I agree with you....it would be hilarious to watch, though.

Amen. I agree. I do believe their wrong choice isn't in choosing Hillary, it's in what you've described as 'slamming Obama relentlessly and unfairly'. That was their choice, and it was the true wrong choice. Instead of building up their woman, they chose to tear down Obama.

What hold do the Clintons have on people? and how was Bill Richardson able to break free from the compound?
  • Ms.Martin · 1 year ago
    Ronnnie B:

I don't think Rev. Cleaver and others like him would have been irrelevant had they chose to work with Obama.

At some point in their careers, the goals were the same as Obama's; however, somewhere along the way they sold out to the belief that things can't be changed. Fortunately, Obama believes that things can be changed and he hasn't given up.
