Rush Limpballs is just about on every station on the radio dial in Indiana.

Indiana also has a lot of Jehovah Witness (Tavis Smiley for one) who don't believe in voting or politics.

Operation Chaos+non voting Jehovah Witness=Clinton "Victory", defeat for America.

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

I pray not to offend anyone with my comments. I read a couple of articles and comments on The Daily Voice. I followed a link of a story about a principal who outted a couple of gay boys for pda (public display of affection). So the link led to a couple of stories about rampant homosexuality at Morehouse College. These stories totally shocked me, because I did not know the school had this particular reputation. So I don't know what to think, but I talked to my son about it last night since my cousin's son attends there as well.

My world is very small & insular. I am on the outs with my church/religion because of the materialism and because of anti-gay sentiments. I just don't want to bash God's children or pretend that I don't love them, cause I do.

That said, I read stuff that suggests that homosexuality is rampant among Black men. There is the whole DL thing and statistics stating that around 75% of adult Black females are unmarried. We somewhat have a kind of undercover, highly disorganized polygmany of sorts among those who participate in having children with a variety of partners.

So I wonder, can all these men be gay? If so, why? What is attractive about homosexuality, and why are so many willing to participate/experiment with it? I guess I don't have a grip on the homosexual inclinations of the non-effeminate man. I still think that some might be born with these inclinations and some might just choose to participate due to pleasure, the same way one might like liquior or recreational substances that are illegal.

People can be whatever they want to be, but what kind of impact does this have on the Black community? Sexual promiscuity is injurious to our people, whether it is hetero or homosexual. It deeply disturbs me that a man would marry a woman and use her as a front because he wants society to look at him a certain way (or whatever), and then would go on to endanger her life by exposing her to the possible consequences of his double life style.

Are there more gay men now than in the past? Does it have an impact, positive or negative, on the Black community at large? Is monogomy a possible and desirable state for African Americans to aspire toward? If not, what are the viable, healthy alternatives?

There was a post on this site by a lady who had to do her taxes multiple times because her life mate was also female. I was not offended by her being gay, because of her attempts to build a life with one person. I have been to gay weddings. I guess I dislike promiscuity more than homosexuality. I would not want my son or daughter F-ing around with many people. I just don't think it's healthy for the body or soul.

Thanks for listening.

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

Keith Boykin is getting things together over @ The Daily Voice. I read an "article" by Maya Angelou on why she still supports Hillbilly. Well, the people who responded cut Maya up just like she is not a Black icon and national treasure. It was bloody, harsh and ugly. You know the invective came from the youth. Not that some valid points weren't made, but duhzam. The disrespect was depressing and illustrates yet another aspect of our collective pathology. I pray that my children will not be like that.

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

As I write these words, CNN is saying the Obama is getting his butt kicked in Indiana. So sad. They are all but totally ignoring NC.

This political competition has really contributed to my personal malaise.I have serious issues on my mind, lke this. If Clinton wins, what are we (African-Americans) going to do? What I think is that it will be business as usual, and this is what depresses me so thoroughly. What if Obama wins? What are we going to do to promote our own uplift? Most Black people I've met don't want to leave america. I'm sure I will HAVE to leave because I won't be able to afford to live in america when I reach retirement age.Even now, I have to go to Mexico to get affordable dental care, and I've basically decided to get any serious health care in Mexico, because the Drs. and dentists are MUCH nicer and more thorough. My insurance is not worth the paper it's printed on and I hope I get the courage to totally drop it....But sorry, I didn't mean to go off on this tangent.

I don't really see us (Blacks) having the will to change our circumstances. If I had magic dust, I would cause us to to love and support each other like I see other races and ethnicities doing. We are so consumer oriented...Why can't we put our $ together and do something substantial? One of my co-workers loves S. Africa and goes as much as he can. He has an import/export business & safari business with a S. African partner. He was telling me how he almost bought a hotel in Swaziland. Why can't some like-minded Black folks get together and get a hotel? If there is a deal to be made, an affluent Black will do it on their own and increase their personal wealth. I have seen people of other races do things differently. I've heard all the theories of being scarred by slavery, Willie Lynch, yada, yada, but I also think those are excuses to stay the same. If you don't move out of the gate as an individual, too bad. Get as much as you can for you and yours because we aren't getting ready to do anything collectively. It's unfortunate, but you'll have to get over it.So, that's what I do. I nurture relationships with my foreign friends so I can have some place to send my son when the draft is reinstated, and so I can have somewhere to take my family when the shoe drops. I am actively preparing to emigrate and adopt the culture of people who like each other and try to work together. Is anyone else discouraged?

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

I don't like Jonathan Capehart. It was funny for someone to point out the obvious - it wasn't out of the goodness of the tv producer's heart that all these Black folk began to pop up on tv doing commentary...the tv producers realized how ridiculous it was to have all-White panels discussing a race with a Black man in it, and had to reach out and find Black voices. I hadn't thought of it that way,btu it makes sense.

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

I call Johnathan the pansy with the horn-rimmed glasses. In addition I specifically talked about how to apply for and send an absentee ballot.

However, later my husband tells me, oh you don't have to do that, the command gives us absentee ballot application.

Unfortunately, after the election I was shocked to discover that ALL but one of the women whom were at my luncheon, actually voted.

I was told by a few that their Husband's never gave them the absentee ballot application. The common theme...they were only given one by the command.

I don't know what to believe but I found that very unsettling. Conviently forgetting to give their wives applications to vote for one of the most important elections of our time? However I don't solely hold the men to blame.

I gave the women at my luncheon the information on how to do it themselves and if their husbands came back with only one absentee ballot application then they should have took it upon themselves to do it on their own.

It was very frustrating to see that happen and I couldn't help wondering how many other "wives" in the military did not vote due to something similiar.

N.
