Jack and Jill Politics: White-Haired White Guys Sticking Together: Forbes on Imus

The 'N' word comment was a joke. And never was really stated. Bernard McGuirk is a man that has worked with Imus for 20 years. He is street wise and knows the lingo. Yes he has gone farther then the I-Man in many things he said. But as a listener for almost 30 years to Imus, he was a positive thing in the scheme of the comical presentation they brought to radio and television. I pray Bernie returns with Imus, along with Charles, Rob Bartlett and Lou Ruffino. Not a day goes by that the I-Man is missed from my daily routine.

I think this is a cautionary tale about the limits of "activistm" conducted within the framework of corporate media.

White shock-jock slanders black female scholars & atheletes, after a long line of similar slurs. Outrage flows on the net for a while till corporate media decide to give it some air time. Corporate media appoint Al Sharpton and Jesse the spokespeople, and refuse to air other voices. Corporate media give space to objections from designated sources, and shock jock is forced to resign for three month vacation in the Carribean.

After decent interval, shock jock sues, is awarded eight figures, and returns, his market value enhanced.

So there was really no victory at all for us in this. The Imus affair was managed by corporate media in such a way that increased the stature and fattened the wallet of Mr. Imus instead of diminishing it.
